Rant/rave/symptoms/questions:

Re: Tuesday ticker change 5.3

  • Week: 12

What's new with baby (size, development): plum!

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: nothing!

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: after two blissful weeks of relatively low nausea, my "morning" sickness came back like a bat out of hell.

When is your next appointment: Friday. And hopefully I get my NIPT results back this week. Kind of a stretch, though, because I just had them done last Friday. The nurse said that panorama sometimes turns them around within 5 days, though, so I'm hoping.

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? This is tough - we play a lot of board games. I think I'd have to say Carcassone though. It's one of the few games that is just as fun with two people as it is with a group.

  • Week: 14, second trimester woohoo!

What's new with baby (size, development): Lemon- vocal cords and teeth are developing

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I've started a registry.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: The bloat has been so much better lately. I have been having some issues with keeping my dinner down in the evenings for the past few nights. I'm hoping this will pass again soon.

When is your next appointment: OB appointment today, A/S is booked for June 10th.

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? Scattergories or Crib

  • What's new with baby (size, development): Week 11, so I have 2 limes :)

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: Pretty much nothing. I'm feeling more relaxed than I was with DD, so I figure all that needs to happen will get done eventually!

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: I finally have enough energy to stay up past 9! WooHoo!!!

When is your next appointment: May 10

GTKY: What's your favorite board or card game (past or present)? I love the game of Life. I used to try and cheat to land on all the 'have a baby' spots...especially the twin ones. Maybe it was foreshadowing!
    Married since Jan 2013
Sweet DD born at 41 weeks Feb 2015
    *Diagnosed with lean PCOS*
    TWINS due 11/22/2016

I did the same thing! I would need 2 game pieces, one for me and one for my (game) husband so that we could fit all our kids in the car.

  • Week:  10

What's new with baby (size, development): Little prune sized baby

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby:   Still nothing

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: Nausea is here and lingering.  I am not loving this and feel awful. This was what the whole 1st tri was like last time so while I'm grateful I had a break this time, I am not happy to be feeling this way now.

I also have to pee all of the time.

When is your next appointment:   This Saturday at 7:30 I have to go do the glucose tolerance test at the lab since I had medication controlled gd last time.  So I have already started eating better and getting used to the diet again.

    TW:

We are also waiting to get the results from DH's blood work to see if he too is a carrier of Tay-Sachs like me.  If he is then there is 25% shot that our baby will be the fatal disease.  So I have been wrestling with my emotions over that.  And somehow last time I wasn't tested for it and our son seems to be ok but it has been an eye opening experience for sure.

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? yahtzee but in general I really like board games.

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: told our kids, our nanny, and starting to tell friends.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: I'm now in the on-again off-again nausea phase. Hoping offs start beating ons soon, but thankful the all-day nausea is giving me a break (hopefully a permanent one).

When is your next appointment: 2 more weeks I think

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? Right now, Agricola. We LOVE board games and often do a board game double date with some friends of ours. Lately that's included Terra Mystica, Dominion, Race Across the Galaxy, and Puerto Rico. I love them all.

What's new with baby (size, development): Key Lime

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I am getting a snoogle today!

When is your next appointment: May 24

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? I love board games! I have too many favorites. I really enjoy Solarquest (think monopoly but in space). We also love Settlers of Catan. For a large group, Cards Against Humanity.

What's new with baby (size, development): size of a brussel sprout, losing its webbed hands and feet

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: nothing lately beyond trying to make a mental list of the few things we'll need to buy for this one.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: nausea is still pretty constant but the vomiting seems to have stopped (fingers crossed!). I'm still exhausted and very constipated.

When is your next appointment: May 16

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? DH and I have been playing Scrabble more lately so that's the current favorite but @Kimmykins143 and @ash111916 I've always loved Life and also had the goal to have so many kids that I needed two cars!

What's new with baby (size, development): lime

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: just discussing whether we keep DS in his room or move him to the bigger room before LO gets here. I think he should stay in his room and make the other a guest/nursery room. We have some time to figure it out I guess

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: feeling better just so tired and lazy most days. Told some friends at work though

When is your next appointment: May 13 for 12 week checkup and May 18 for NT test

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? Settlers of Catan or Cards Against Humanity

  • What's new with baby (size, development): baby's the size of a peach! forming vocal cords & bones are forming

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: ahhh I never have nothing new to say here, whoops. I guess telling our families on Sunday? MIL already has a huge bag full of baby stuff she says... she's been collecting for awhile now lol, why am I not surprised.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: everything seems to be annoying me / it's great having a loving & supporting family / just tired, hard to get a solid night of sleep / when can you start feeling the baby move? I swear I felt a kick yesterday!

When is your next appointment: May 25th, feels like it's so far away!

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? probably Scrabble!

  • What's new with baby (size, development):
Baby is the size of a house mouse.  Also little one has the ability to make facial expressions and suck their thumb..... Adorable.

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby:
Nothing really.  Once I know what I'm having maybe I'll get moving a little.

    Rant/rave/symptoms/questions:
Im in the second tri so any day/week now I'll start feeling absolutely amazing.  I can't wait for energy again I miss doing things.

When is your next appointment: Not till June 3rd with my OB.  I have about another 2-1/2 week wait till I get my genetic panel results but the doctor already said we could handle the results over the phone and save me yet another appointment.

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? I use to be really into euchre but no one I spend time with now knows how to play.  Mostly we are a Cranium and Pictionary family.  With the right group Cards Against Humanity is loads of fun.

  • @TwandaFTG FX for speedy and good results.  We opted for genetic testing this time around after our loss and learned my husband is a carrier for Tay Sachs along with a few other genetic disorders. With my ethnicity my odds are low but odds don't mean much to me at this point.   My husband took the news he was a carrier pretty hard.  When he told his mother she informed him she was a carrier but never said anything because she thought only Ashkenazi Jews could be carriers, so me not being one we would be safe.  We are all learning a lot this time around.  I'll be thinking of you and hoping for the absolute best.  Keep me posted.

  • I love reading all the updates!!!!

    Week: 14- second tri!!

What's new with baby (size, development): size of a peach. Or a troll!!

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: my moms husband bought us a stroller and car seat this weekend! And then a wal mart trip for dog shampoo turned into us buying a pack and play.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: feeling a bit better minus the headaches everyday. And the RLP made me unable to sleep one night but mostly really good.

When is your next appointment: may 20. And we need to decide if we're going to do the screening blood work. Big decision.

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? I love all board games!!! Life, clue, sorry, uno, headbands, you name it!

What's new with baby (size, development): I've got a couple of limes in there
What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: Nothing!  It's still so early and I'm a procrastinator so this will probably be my answer for the next 20 weeks.
Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: I finally have more energy but at the same time I'm exhausted?  No more morning sickness though so I'll take it!
When is your next appointment: May 9th I have my monthly appt then on the 10th I have my NT scan.  And I have to go in next week for my two hour GD test because I'm considered obese.  So that was a nice self esteem booster!
    GTKY:
What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? I'm a Yahtzee fanatic.  I also love pretty much all board games.

I've been on kind of an unintentional bump break but this seemed like a good chance to jump back in.

Week: 10! This feels like a milestone.

What's new with baby (size, development): functioning joints is all I can remember but that seems pretty cool

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: Not much. I spent a bunch of time browsing on lucies list today. Probably pretty far from major decisions and even farther from actually buying anything but it's feeling more fun to look.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: I think nausea is easing up.

When is your next appointment: May 13.

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? I played pandemic for the first time over the weekend and that was cool. For classics I'd probably say scrabble or monopoly.

  • I'm always a day late!!

    Week: 14

What's new with baby (size, development): Peach.

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: trying to find a new OB on the west coast/dealing with insurance. My H's new insurance for work isn't supposed to kick in until August, so we're hoping to expedite that as we're moving in June, and I know from experience that our current insurance will only cover emergencies only out-of-state.

I was was planning to use one of the OB's highly recommended by my MIL (she's a L&D nurse) but apparently he doesn't take H's insurance. Gaahhhh.

More reasons for me to get a job ASAP, maybe my insurance will be better.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: I guess my rant is per above. I'm feeling better but still so tired all the time. But that could be due to the teething toddler.

When is your next appointment: May 12 for my blood draw for the sequential screen and check-in with my OB.

GTKY: What's your favourite board or card game (past or present)? Card game is either poker, or pinochle. For board games, I like chess (but am terrible), and Catan.

Holy crap, T&P for you as you wait for results. When did you find out you were a carrier?

ETA: just so weird because this happened with me too with the alpha thalassemia trait. They only screened for it because one of my iron values (MCV) was low. So I'm wondering why they only screened you this time around.

I have no idea why I was tested this time around and not last time.  I did switch to a new OB but in the same practice my last OB was in before she started her own practice.  The crazy part is that none of my relatives in at least four generations is Jewish but must have been much further down the line.  I will keep everyone posted.

My other little whisp of hope is that when my son was born they told us he had a blood type that was virtually impossible.  We had him retested and they had put the wrong type in his file because he is the same blood type as both DH and I.  So maybe there was a human error again???

@TwandaFTGTay Sachs isn't a Jewish genetic disease.  Cajuns and Ashkenazi Jews have the same mutation that causes it and the same carrier rate.  French Canadians have the same carrier rate but a completely different mutation they test for.  The Irish have a lesser carrier rate and a different mutations as well.  Everybody else in the general population has a 1 in 200 chance of being a carrier, I'm in that category, and that group is tested by the amount of an enzyme that they produce.  Long way of saying depending on how you were tested it could help narrow down your ethnic background.

If you and your husband both fall in the category of 'general population' your odds are extremely low to both be carriers. I hate odds so I know that's not always comforting so I won't get into that incase you are like me. I'm now 3 weeks into the worry over it and have had two appointments with a genetics doctor and spent too much time on Google.

Hopefully! and hopefully YH comes back negative. Did the genetic counselor say anything about his risk? And did they mention anything about testing YS? With me, they said don't even worry about testing DD until she gets to reproductive age.

  • How fun! Several of you are OUT of the first tri!! wahoo!

    Week: 12!

What's new with baby (size, development):  plum/toy soldier; most organs and internal systems have developed. S/he is truly a tiny human. Just has a lot of cooking to do. :-)

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I'm finally starting to seriously consider our announcement to the world (ie facebook, lol). I have some ideas but I'm fairly undecided still.

Rant/rave/symptoms/questions: its all good. energy seems to be increasing.

When is your next appointment: a few weeks. booo. but I got a call about genetic testing results. baby is looking good and I'm "low risk" so yay. Also, the sex is determined!! They are holding the results for me at the office. Hubbys picking it up today and tomorrow I will go to a local bakery and get a special cupcake made so hubby and I can find out together tomorrow night!

GTKY: What's your favorite board or card game (past or present)? taboo, I know its not a board or a card game but its my favorite.

  • @kristah2 I asked the doctor about the headaches and he said if they go away in the next couple of weeks it's not a big deal and probably just headaches but if they consistently keep happening he might send me to a neurologist just to be on the safe side, he said probably just migraines but he would want it checked out just in case

  • @tatertat313 that's good! If you can push for a neurologist. I have chronic migraine syndrome (why I'm not too surprised about my headaches but I'd love them to stop)  it took me 3 family doctors and about 4 years before someone finally referred me. The second he heard I was having headaches 15-20 days a month with a severe migraine 1-2 he put me on preventative medication. It did a world of difference and even when I stopped kept them at bay until now. Problem is you can't take anything like that if you're pregnant. Seeing him was the best decision I could have made. They are much more open to headaches.
Heres hoping they stop soon though!
