Sick toddler and due in 3 days

As I was sitting wondering when the F labor would start and trying all the old wives tales to try and push things along..... My poor DS spikes a fever/pukes the last 24 hours. It has been a trying and exhausting last 2 days and now the last thing on my mind is having a baby. Anyone with other kids knows how bad they cling to mom when they're sick and I'm just praying he starts feeling himself by the time I leave for hospital. Ugh the emotional toll. I can't wait to meet this baby but yet torn with wanting to make sure my son is ok. Luckily we have a very supportive family on standby. Ironic how I couldn't wait for labor to start and now I'm practically crossing my legs and wanting her to stay put for a bit! Anyone else dealing with sick kiddos?

That sounds so frustrating! I don't have any sick children, as this is my first baby, but my husband has been feeling kind of sick with a sore throat/congestion for the past couple days. I'm being induced on Thursday and I'm so afraid he is going to get me sick or get the baby sick when she is born! Its even more annoying that in the 10 years we've been together, he has gotten sick MAYBE 4 times? Lucky for me, I can just banish him to the couch and keep wiping the house down with clorox wipes. Must be a lot harder with a sick toddler!! Good luck!

DH was coming down with something the day I went into labor. So I came home with a newborn and a sick husband (and obviously wasn't going to let him touch her much!). Now it appears our 2.5 year old DS has caught his dad's sickness, meanwhile I'm over here trying to heal from having a baby! We are a hot mess right now.

  • That's how it goes! DD has been battling a respiratory virus seems like every other month since October, and lo and behold, it started back up again beginning of last week. And this morning I woke up with a tickle in my own throat. I feel ya, sister! I have all the things crossed that everyone is healthy for baby's birth.
  • I am so sorry! :(

Oh, my! That sounds really tough :(

Hugs to you all dealing with sick kids and partners with newborns or soon-to-be newborns. Sending good vibes for quick recoveries all around!

  • @mello13 oh I am so sorry! I hope everyone starts feeling better ASAP. Sucks. Tears your heart apart when your kids are sick.

Thanks everyone one for the positive vibes! Hoping he starts feeling himself really soon--My DH keeps saying how DS wants nothing to do with him because he's sick he just wants mom. I told him just wait until he sees me cuddling a newborn. He'll be DHs best friend.
  • This is one thing I've been so nervous about! DD started saying yesterday that her throat hurts so I'm crossing everything that it's just a scratchy throat and nothing more. I hope he starts feeling better really soon!
  • Yes! But my daughter has allergies and asthma that flare up. The last few days and nights especially have been rough! (no sleep!) Add about a million other things going on: husband has to fly out of town for 24 hrs for work meeting, plumbing problems, my sister's nanny quit with zero notice and she was supposed to watch my youngest while I'm in the hospital! So yeah, with every contraction I'm like noooo, not today baby! (Due in 8 days)
Hope your little one feels better soon and that YOU don't catch it!
  • Terrible terrible terrible! I laughed reading about crossing your legs  Here's  hoping that everyone is well again before you go into labor. Try to remember that no matter what happens you will figure it out (and you'll be able to have some wine by then).

  • I've been worried about this too! I'm so sorry it happened! My DD has had running nose/cough the last week or so, but I think it's mainly allergy related. Having older children in the house just introduces the germs that weren't there the first time around. I'm hoping that since we're going into summer we'll be able to get through several months cold-free (crossing all fingers and toes).

  • Thanks ladies.you all rock for the kind words. DH is amazing but sometimes only other moms know what your mind is going through thinking about your other child/ren. @lionstigersbears it's so funny I'm getting the "where is this baby!?" texts and they don't even bother me. Haha. I started having contractions and I'm like trying to stop them ...somehow. Crazy.  But you're so right and that gave me peace of mind. Whenever labor decides to start we will figure it out and everyone will be good.
  • I'm due the 23rd but DS3 is sick and very needy right now. And I don't feel all that great. I'm just hoping it's not contagious. I feel relieved that I still have "time" but I would freak out if I was closer to my due date. Here's to hoping that our LO's feel better before our babies make their entrance.

  • This is part of the reason that I thought May would be perfect timing as far as flu season!  This whole pregnancy, Twin1 would get a cold, etc and fight it off pretty well.  She's been catching everything as she is in a very touchy phase with her eyes and nose.  Then, twin2 catches whatever and it hits her harder because she has enlarged adenoids. Then I get it and go down hard. DH doesn't ever get it!
Hopefully I won't catch EVERYTHING that comes in our house when I'm not pregnant!

I'm a little worried about September when the twins start 2yr old preschool - for them and the newborn.

  • @JennyS86 ummm you're amazing-- and I shouldn't complain. Your twins sound the same age as my son. One is tough enough when sick. Don't even know how you manage with two. You're a rock star. And I know how you feel-DS starts nursury school in June. Here come the germs!

Don't know how we would do it without family!  hope your LO feels better sooner rather than later!

and honestly, knock on wood, we haven't had to deal with both girls being really sick (pukey) at the same time.  Some day, I'm sure the sh!t will hit the fan...  :)  but until then, we will just snuggle.
