My Mood

Just wanted to throw this out there for all the mamas who may be struggling with PPD or PPD-like mood issues. I was having a really hard time and even seeing someone for PPD. I have struggled with depression in the past and have taken a handful of different meds for it. I knew I didn't want to take anything because I'm breastfeeding and also because I hate how they make me a zombie.

I had my vitamin levels/deficiencies checked and started taking a methylated B vitamin complex (the one I take is Jarrow B-Right from Amazon) Holy cow has it helped! Obviously not everyone has the exact same problem but since I started taking the B complex I have seen a drastic improvement in my mood and overall life outlook. My husband has noticed a difference too. What's crazy is we both can tell if I forget to take it. I get groggy and grouchy if I forget just one day.

Just wanted to mention it, as I know mood disorders affect A LOT of new moms and this has been a great and natural fix for me.

  • I might try that, thanks!

  • Having the right vitamin/mineral content for your body is absolutely important.  Depression/anxiety/mood disorders are chemical imbalances and vitamin/minerals are chemicals.  It only makes sense that they affect mood.

Talk to your doctor or do some research before trying this, but magnesium is another mineral that many people are deficient in.  It is an essential chemical for the mitochondria (the power plant) of your cells.  Many people report increased focus and energy once they begin taking it.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

@VexedMommy yes! Magnesium is wonderful. I tell my husband that Epsom salt baths are essential for my wellbeing and that 30 minutes of alone time is non negotiable. Although half the time LO ends up in the tub with me...
  • Thanks for this, I've really been struggling lately with going back to work and being away from LO, and just generally feeling like I have the weight of the world. I don't feel like myself at all and it's affecting all areas of my life. Sleep deprivation doesn't help. I am going to order this now.
