Constipation - cross-posted in 0-3mos.

DS hasn't pooped in 2 days. He doesn't seem to be in any pain (yet), but I'm starting to get nervous. He's had a couple diet changes this past week and a half- going from being supplemented with RTF formula to a diet of nearly all powdered formula. It's the perfect recipe for constipation! I'm just not sure what to do. And of course it's a Sunday and the dr's office is closed haha. Isn't that how it always works!

I cross posted this in 0-3 months because I realized that would get more answers. Hazy mom brain, sorry!

  • We had this problem this week but it wasn't that she hadn't pooped but that it was hard pellets when she did. My ped had me give her a small infant glycerin suppository to make her go and it worked in just a few minutes.

If he's not in pain, I'd just wait it out and see what happens. My ped said to be less worried about not pooping than hard and pellet like poop. Does your ped have an after hours line? It wouldn't hurt to call and ask them what they think even if it's just for your own piece of mind.

  • My LO went 4 days without a bm and our ped also recommended a chip of a glycerin suppository. It did not take long to kick in.
  • It's normal, especially while adjusting to formula. Wait for baby to poop, hard pellets are a problem but decreased frequency should not be.

My formula fed son only poops once every other day, on average, but it's soft so it's not a problem.
