TTC After a Loss

Back again. *losses mentioned*

Hey everyone! I posted my full story on the MC board, but long story short, I just had MC #3 discovered at 9w1d when growth stopped at 8w4d. I want to jump right back onto the ttcal board because even though I'm benched for a while, I'm not giving up, and I am more determined than ever to start my family. I'll be meeting with a RE hopefully next month to get some answers.

Have you met with a RE before? Have they helped? This is all new territory to me. Never imagined I'd go through this 3 times.

Re: Back again. *losses mentioned*

  • I'm really, really sorry to see you back here. I don't have any experience with an RE, but want to offer you my sincerest condolences and love.

I am very sorry for your loss.  :'(

I've been with my RE for a little over 2 years. He takes a less aggressive approach as some women get pregnant with the right fertility pills or an IUI. If you haven't had tests to check egg reserve and to see if your tubed are open, the RE should do them. Let me be the first to tell you the HSG test is painful at times. Luckily, it doesn't last very long. My RE started with IUI and since I'm able to get pregnant on that protocol, IVF is off the table. Now if only my body can figure out the rest.  Good luck!

  • I'm so sorry for your losses. I am currently seeing a RE, but it's new as of last month. This is our first medicated cycle (clomid & IUI). I have loved the experience so far. The testing was a lot in terms of coordination, but I really feel like my doctor wants to get me pregnant. My OBGYN was very much a wait and see guy and the RE is all about action and making a plan which helps me feel less hopeless. Good luck to you, and feel free to ask any other questions, either on here or PM me.
  • I'm sorry for your losses. It's so hard to pick up and move forward, so I'm proud of you for looking ahead.

My RE specializes in RPL and has given me hope when I thought we were done trying to conceive. One of the things I've learned from him is that it's very unlikely that our losses were all due to the same cause. He cautioned us in our first appointment that we likely have more than one contributing factor.

I'm dealing with DOR and he is also treating me for inflammation that may have impacted my blood flow to/from baby.

The factors that cause miscarriages come from these three categories: genetic/chromosomal, immune system, or blood flow related.

In my case, my RE feels like there is potential for me to carry successfully with the protocol I'm on now. But he was honest with us that there's no guarantee and we had to reflect on whether we could handle another loss.

Our plan is to try one more time on our own and if we suffer another loss, we will probably move to IVF with a frozen donor egg.

If you have any questions about the tests I've done or the protocol I'm following currently, I'm happy to share more.

I hope you find some answers and your stay here is short. In the meantime, big hugs to you. xo

  • Thank you all for the love and support. Every time has felt harder than the last and this is no exception.

@fivetimesnoluck thank you for your detailed description of what you're going through. I know I have a lot to learn and I'm planning on educating myself more before starting appointments so I can know my expectations and make better use of the time with the RE.
  • I have been with my RE for almost a year now @LaurenDarling and it's been hard, but amazing because I have learned so much about infertility and my body.  You just have to make sure you find a doctor you're comfortable with because there are lots of tough questions to ask and they definitely don't sugar coat it.  I've had two losses and I hear you on doing whatever it takes to start your family :) best of luck!! xo
  • I'm so sorry for your losses, best of luck with the RE!
