Blanket

During the 9 month appointment, we were talking about sleep trouble with the doctor. She suggested to lay her down in her crib with a blanket and walk out. I have no problem with CIO, but it has really bothered me that she suggested the blanket. Does anyone else put blankets or toys in the crib? She will pull objects away from her face. I do think she'd sleep better with a blanket to cuddle with, but I'm worried she is too young still.

Re: Blanket

  • My son sleeps with a blanket. We cosleep, but when he naps he also sleeps with a blanket. I check on him often though. If you don't think she is ready, then don't rush mama. I'm sorry you felt that way and I hope everything else went good! Keep us posted mama!
  • Mine has a little security blanket with a bear on top and he sleeps with it as he cuddles with it. You should try those and see how ur little one does.

  • My DD sleeps with a small security blanket, a couple of teething stuffed animals and a crocheted blanket on top of her. If your worried, they make breathable security blankets or I've read that crocheted blankets are a little safer since they have all those holes in them. I would also suggest starting it at nap time only so you can check on her to make sure she's safe and once you're comfortable with that, then do it with bed time.
  • Mine has slept with a blanket since 6 months old (I know about SIDS) we waited until she could pull things away from her face, I've never had a scare, and so wish at daycare she could have a blanket because she sleeps so much better with it. She whips it all around and mainly just ends up laying down on top of it, I think she likes the soft texture on her face.
  • My son has to lay on a fluffy blanket with another blanket covering him. He also has his big marine teddy bear to cuddle since daddy isnt here. He loves to pat his blankets right before he closes his eyes!
  • Mine outgrew her wearable blanket around 7 months so I started using a small regular blanket. She sleeps with nothing but the blanket. She knows how to pull it away from her face and she doesn't move much when she sleeps anyway, so I'm not too worried about her getting wrapped up in it.

  • We play a fun game while folding laundry where I throw a towel in her, and once she pulls it off, I throw another one on her. Eventually she is buried in a pile of clothes, squealing with laughter, and wriggling her way out. She can definitely, always get out. So I'm not worried about baby blankets over her face.

I do worry about them getting under her, and her planting her face in them while asleep. I cover her with a thin blanket when she first falls asleep and then put a second one on her once she is totally asleep.
  • I put a blanket in with LO a few times but daddy didnt like it so we took it out and we use a lovey, its a small little blanket with a elephant on top and that works perfect for now. He lives shoving it in his face but he does always pull it away so I am not too concerned.

Well, I tried to give her her security blanket with a zebra on it. It has been in her crib two nights now and she hasn't even touched it. She'll just walk around her crib crying and screaming until she falls asleep. We haven't tried crib training her in her crib yet for naps, so she only gets it at night. I really hope eventually it'll give her comfort.

    STUCK IN THE BOX

Have you tried holding the blanket between your body and hers when you're nursing/bottle feeding or rocking her? It might help her associate the blanket with those soothing activities and bring her comfort.

I have tried placing the zebra in between us, but she pulls it out and tosses it on the floor. I'll definitely try some more.
  • My girl won't sleep without her teddy bear and a blanket at this point.
