Re: Wednesday & Thursday Ticker Change 4/20-4/21

  • How many weeks/fruit? 38w I'm going with baby-sized at this point. I'm finished with fruit comparisons.

Symptoms/raves/rants? Primarily I'm having false labor, lots of low pressure, lower back aches coming and going, heartburn, and swelling. Thanks to chiropractic adjustments keeping my hips balanced, I've actually been able to keep up with walking and doing fun things with DS and DH on the weekend despite being huge.

Appointment update? We scheduled a date for a RCS (May 3rd!) this week since DS2 is complete breech. On the slim chance that he turns before then, they're planning to do an u/s before surgery so that I can try for a vbac if he manages to turn. He seems to be wedged in pretty tightly though and his hips are engaged in my pelvis, so it's most likely going to be the cs.

    Questions for the group? n/a

Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? DH gets 2 days paternity leave and can take additional days with vacation time. We're not 100% sure how many days he's taking yet. My parents live only 10-15min away, so my mom will be over to help quite a bit the first month, at least until I can lift DS again after surgery.
  • How many weeks/fruit? 36 papaya

Symptoms/raves/rants? Fatigue seems to be better this week.  Hip soreness is also better, but we had about 4 straight days of rain, so I wasn't walking as much.

Appointment update? Just got back!  Got my poking and prodding over with for the week. ;)  Honestly, GBS swab was no big deal and either was the cervical check.  My dr. said soft, but closed.  I was worried that baby was transverse because I can literally see his feet push waay to one side and then can feel a round bump on the other side.  Turns out his feet are where I suspected, the round bump is his butt, and he is head down -- like and L shape because his legs are straight out.  I'm thinking this kiddo has looong legs!  I'm 5'10", so it makes sense.

Questions for the group?  Anyone else feel like time is ticking slowly?  Pregnancy flew by until about 34 weeks and now it's slowed down quite a bit.  I'm jealous of the bumpies who are due soon!

Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? My mom lives three blocks away from me, so she will be available on evenings/weekends if I need help.  My H works 2 weeks on/2 weeks off. He will be a great help when he's home, but it will be difficult when he's gone.  If baby comes on time/late, he will be home for 4-5 days before going out to work for a couple week.s  If baby comes early, he could get close to 2 weeks home.  Time will tell.

My MIL would drop anything in a heartbeat if I needed help.  She lives 2.5 hours away.  When my H is gone, I'll probably have her come and stay a night or two because she would just love to come and stay.  I'm sure she will be a little bit of a baby hog, but will be helpful with other things, too.  I'll be BF, so she won't be able to hog baby too much. ;)

Symptoms/raves/rants? Feeling completely human again after two weeks of feeling miserable!

Appointment update? The next three Monday's then a rcs scheduled for May 12

    Questions for the group?

Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? My husband is a teacher so he's taking the last two weeks of school off then is home for the summer. My MIL/FIL are coming to stay with our boys while we are in the hospital :)
  • How many weeks/fruit? 38 weeks / winter melon

Symptoms/raves/rants? lots of pressure in my lower back. BH have slowed down, but seem to come after I eat a meal.

Appointment update? Had one yesterday. Go back next Friday (29th). I was checked and the dr said I was "definitely 1cm." The exam was uncomfortable and I assume baby is still high with the trouble dr was having. I felt uncomfortable the rest of the day but am better this AM.

    Questions for the group? none

Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? Not asking for help. However, my cousin and his wife asked to come visit May 20-23 and it works out with when my husband will be on a work trip May 17-26. Bad timing for DH, but it's work. Hopefully the visit will be exciting/out of the norm for my older two kids. I look forward to visitors while I am on leave and hopefully I have a lot that come over to hang out.

@Jenly17 I agree with you--  having a cranky, tired DH is way worse for me than just doing the night routines myself. I need him to be on point during the day, which means him getting sleep (especially since the MAOI he's on is designed to help him sleep better along with its anti-anxiety/anti-depressive properties). I know having H help during the night works for some, though.
  • @Jenly17 I don't have experience yet, but I'm thinking I will be the same way about wanting my H to help in the MOTN.  I plan to BF, so I feel like I'll be awake anyway.  No sense in us both being awake.

I may be singing a different tune in two months though... we'll see!
  • How many weeks/fruit? 37 weeks! Doctor says we are good to go for whenever baby wants to be born

Symptoms/raves/rants? Possibly feeling BH, usually at the end of coaching track practice after not drinking enough water, needing to pee, and tired from moving around/yelling. Everything settles down once I sit and drink some water so I'm never concerned about it. I think baby might be oblique with head by my left hip. I have been focusing on relaxing my core muscles today (for whatever reason I subconsciously keep them very tight) to see if anything exciting happens.

Appointment update? I go tomorrow and will have a cervical check, then I assume weekly checks with nothing really exciting going on. Test results for GBS were negative wahoo!

Questions for the group? After reading many threads on here it seems that it's hard to tell when baby will come. For example losing your MP, being dilated, or baby engaging could mean baby is coming or it could be a couple weeks still. Am I correct in just not worrying about any of this until I'm having obvious contractions or my water breaks?

Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? DH has a crazy amount of sick time/vacation saved up so he plans to take off the first 6 weeks with me and then sort of go from there :) DH's parents live an hour away but are very excited and I'm sure will be around a lot at first. My parents are 4 hours away but will come up when we go to the hospital, I have no idea what their plans are but they have a condo 5 min away from our house. We are the first of the local friends to have a baby so it will be interesting to see how often we see everyone or if people want to come over a lot. I'm glad we know our friends well enough that if they do visit I don't necessarily have to host, they know where everything is in my house.

@js8812 I was never able to nurse DD in our bed because of some unique circumstances. She was a sleepy baby so I literally I had to turn the lights on and strip her down to get her to wake up. I definitely didn't want to subject H to that every 2 hrs, so I nursed her in her nursery.

However, if I was able to nurse her in our bedroom, I may have been more inclined to have H change her diaper and then bring her to me so that I could just nurse and fall back to sleep.

It it might take a few weeks to get in a groove, but you'll get there!
  • @jenly17 I had to do that with DS too!

    How many weeks/fruit? 36/whatever

Symptoms/raves/rants? The stretch marks have officially arrived on my belly. Also, I have these weird little bumps on my upper stomach area...it looks like folliculitis or hives or something, and they're driving me nuts. They don't itch or anything though...I'm just paranoid that they're the beginning of more skin tags. The tags along my upper back and shoulders are so bad that I can't resist picking at the bumps on my stomach and now I've got all these angry red spots because of it.

Appointment update? Today. Will be getting my first cervical check apparently. :flushed:

Questions for the group? I know the human body is capable of so many amazing things...but I feel like I'm defying the laws of physics at this point. How is it possible that I'm still getting bigger?!

Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? DH will be on leave for the first two weeks, so it will mostly be just the two of us. However, SIL will be in town for the week of my due date (though I've asked for her not to stay overnight if we are home with baby because I don't want to have to be "on" for any longer than necessary). She says she will be here to help out around the house during the day - we will see. Unofficially, though: will be enlisting my mom, but on an as-needed basis. Which I suspect will be needed often, haha. But I know my mom will actually be helpful and not just a distraction or trying to hog all the baby snuggles, etc.
