I had my 21st week app last week and the doc told me that I have gained 13 lbs. WTF!!?!? I refuse to weigh myself anymore because I don't want to see that number on the scale. I have always struggled, so not knowing is best for me. Any my boobs have grown three sizes. I am now a 40E! Doc expects me to gain 20-25 lbs total. I was already heavier when I started (165) so I really only wanted to gain 15. Kinda depressed. Anyone else care to share their stories!?!?!?
Re: How much weight so far?
I honestly wouldn't worry too much about the actual number. Every woman is different in pregnancy and as long as you are active and eat reasonably healthy I wouldn't dwell on the number. Or unless your doctor wants you to adjust diet for GD.
Something that helped my cousin while she was pregnant was she would just turn around when they weighed her. And she told them not to tell her unless it was an unhealthy weight gain.

I did have a dream last night though that I went to my 24 week appointment and the scale showed I had gained 53 pounds! That made me wake up in a panic.
Gaining weight during pregnancy is hard, but having been through it once before, I can assure you first timers that, so long as you aren't severely overdoing it (read: eating a giant bowl of ice cream every night before bed, or indulging in fast food on a daily basis), the weight will come off with no problem. Especially if you breast feed!

I would just say do you, be healthy, indulge when you want, and it's up to each of us individually do do what's best for us. For me, BFing was important, so the weight loss had to wait. What will be will be.

Anyway, my weight had evened out to 11 pounds by about weeks 16 - 21 including the extra 4 (Thanksgiving) pounds. Which I was okay with, but then over the past 2 weeks my weight shot up 5 pounds. Anybody else having weeks of plateau followed by rapidly increasing weight??
Edited because simple math is difficult today!
Baby #2 due 8/11/2016
@nikkoli98 - yes! I'll gain nothing for weeks, then gain 2-3 pounds, then plateau again. I feel like my bump grows that way too. No changes for a while and then I wake up one morning and wham! Noticeably bigger.
Doc didn't seem to worry at all so I'm not going to stress about it. I'm not eating way more than I used to. Just focusing on carrying to term and delivering a healthy baby.

I gained 35lbs with DS and he was born at 36w, so basically I'm gaining about the same as last time. I was able to knock all that off and more between nursing and a couple of clean eating/21 day fix diets and exercise. I'm not worried!
I've gained right around 20lbs, but ten of it was last month when I was on bed rest. My doctor said that is fairly normal, as long as that pattern doesn't continue now I am cleared for working out again! I was also a little heavier than normal prior to pregnancy, but in my case it was a heavy dose of steroids (for three months!), trying to get healthy enough I could go off all my medications for at least the oh so important first trimester. I did manage to stay off them, and the developmental ramifications of the meds he avoided. The only real risk from starting them up again now is pre-term labor, so we need to be a bit more vigilant than normal about it. It's not a significantly increased risk, so the trade off is worth it.
So between the steroids, and pregnancy I am up about 35 lbs over what my "normal" weight is. Blech. Oh well, this little guy was *very* wanted, and given my health condition I am so thankful we were able to get that small window of "okay to TTC."
I'll trade skinny jeans for mom jeans to actually be a mom!
While I have gained more than I would like to admit, I also know that my baby is perfectly healthy, my husband still thinks I'm hot, I run 3 days per week, and I eat healthy things but am not shy about indulging. Pregnancy and life are not competitions. Don't let them become one in your mind. Just relax.
I know it's hard not to feel bad when you see or read about other pregnant moms but we really are all different. I wanted to run throughout my pregnancy (I would run a mile or two 3x/week pre-pregnancy). But I had to listen to my body when I went running during my first trimester and started spotting every time I tried.
The guilt and fear of not being able to run really took a toll on me in the beginning but I had to get over it and change my negatice thoughts to positive, listening to my body. Now when I see pregnant ladies running outside or read about how they went for a run, I don't feel bad that I can't as much as I used to because at the end, the thing that matters most is your health and the health of your baby.

I started at about 300lbs (Yup, biig girl over here). I actually figured I wouldn't be able to get pregnant until I slimmed down some (since high weight can be a limiting factor for this). I am actually down to 266 last weigh-in (at 21 weeks) because my Little Spirit doesn't like many heavy, greasy, or sugary foods. I have been eating less (due to picky baby) and eating somewhat healthier than I did before. If I toss in exercise, I could probably still lose weight. My midwife said that, with my starting weight, it would be best if I gained minimal weight and she would be OK if I lost weight the entire time (in healthy amounts). I just gotta keep eating right and remembering to take my multi every day, especially on those that I can't eat as much.
I just wanna be healthy and my baby to be healthy.
My sister gained nearly 40 pounds with her first baby and she said stressing about keeping the weight to a certain number was more harmful to her than just focusing on eating healthy. Stress can also be harmful to baby.
So long as your primary/OB/Midwife isn't worried, I would say keep on keeping on, beautiful ladies! Don't overstress "the gain."
Wishing you all healthy pregnancies and healthy babies!
ETA: bit about my sister that somehow disappeared when I hit "post" last time.
I do feel like I gained a lot before my last appt and I'm not growing as much these past couple of week so maybe I won't have a big gain. we'll see. I have a hard time seeing my body change and the scale go up but at the end of the day as long as baby is healthy and the midwife doesn't have an issue, then i'll just be okay.
I continue to work out and move and my body will do what it needs to do.
