HELLP Syndrome

Hi Ladies,
I just wanted to let you know to be careful.  This thing can come on suddenly without any prior warning or signs.  All my labs were normal, blood pressure, etc. I had no signs and symptoms.  I went to the ER Friday morning because I thought I was having gallbladder issue. Turned out to be pre eclampsia and Hellp Syndrome. I ended up in the ICU and my baby had to be taken via C Section at 34 weeks and is currently in the NICU.  It is really scary how it can come on without signs.  My doctors were saying it was acid reflux or just muscle strain, or the way the baby was laying.  Then when I could not take it anymore I went to the ER and found out.  So be careful. It is a life threatening complication.

Re: HELLP Syndrome

  • :( I'm glad you're ok. My mom developed HELLP with me very suddenly at 36 weeks, and she said it also started with gallbladder like pains for her.

  • I'm so sorry! I hope you and baby are both doing well. You'd think that doctors would deal with this enough that they would know to listen to things like that.

  • I'm so sorry that happened. I hope you and your LO get better soon and can go home!
  • I am so glad that you survived this ordeal!  I've been thinking of you since you posted your LO's picture.  HELLP is definitely not something to mess with.  I'm so glad that you trusted your instinct that something was wrong.
Keep in mind that for some people, blood pressure can take a while to normalize, so take care of yourself!

  • How scary. Glad you listened to your body and you and LO are doing well!
  • So glad that you trusted your intuition and that you and baby are okay! What a terrifying experience!
  • So scary! But how great that your baby made it to 34 weeks! I've worked with a lot of children who were born between 24-28 weeks because of HELPP and they have a ton of ground to make up because of developmental delays.
  • What a scary ordeal! I'm so glad that you and your beautiful LO are both doing OK now. FX that she can come home soon!!
  • That is crazy that you didn't have symptoms.  I'm so glad you and the baby are okay.  Sending T&P!!!
  • How scary!  I'm so glad you trusted your instincts and that you and baby are okay.
