Baby shower dress/ Hair sharing :)

Hey ladies,
Now that we are nearing the time when some of us are planning our outfits for baby showers/ hair dos I would love to see what you have picked out. I had a very hard time picking a dress out because I have grown a bit( as we all have) but my shoulders are narrow and even some smalls are very large on me. I tried on 25 dresses last night and found one that DH and I liked. We also have a wedding 2 days before my due date that I need something to wear to, haha if I make it. I have attached a picture of my dress and shoes at 23 weeks, but I will be 31 around my shower date. I also attached a photo of what my hair stylist will do to my hair. I'm just too lazy to want to do my own hair the day of. I could see myself crying all morning feeling hideous, so I'm treating myself.

  • Love your dress & hair! Super cute! One bit of advice I would give is make sure you try on your dress closer to your shower to make sure it still fits. Your bump will grow considerably in the next 8w causing the dress to shorten quit a bit. I know this from experience!

We are doing more of a laid back BBQ for ours. It will be pool side and HOT AS DICKENS outside. So, I'm thinking I'll probably just rock jean shorts and a cute tanktop. Maybe I'll wear a "mom to be" sash or something.

Love the hair styles @Katm89! I have no idea what I'll do with mine. Considering it'll probably be 100 degrees, I'll probably end up in a messy bun.

  • @AmandaG225 I put that big bump under my dress to see how I will look at 40 weeks so I will make sure its not too short! It works for the shower... it remains to be seen if it will work for 40 weeks because who knows how big I will be. Unfortunately Maxi dresses are too long for me( I'm 5.2').

@Tnallen107 I wanted a backyard BBQ!!! but its a Jack & Jill so too many people. Thanks about the hair! I am not taking Maternity photos, so photos from my shower will go in my baby book to document the pregnancy, so I knew I would have a crying fit the day of if it wasn't perfect haha.
  • Very pretty!!!

  • Cute! I love the hair! My shower is in mid-June, so I still have no clue what I'm wearing. I've thought about getting pampered on the day of as well. I was thinking mani-pedi, but not having to worry with my hair would also be a nice treat!

  • @Allisun85 I love those shoes!!! Wish I could have found a dress in blue... it really is my color.

Unfortunately, if the dress doesn't fit I will be forced to wear pants because all the maxi dresses are way too long on me for some reason. It's a real shame otherwise I would wear one to the shower so I don't need to sit polite while opening presents.

@MamaKSquared I have thought about getting my nails done! I'll have to see if I have the money, but I will probably just do them myself haha
  • My shower will be when I'm 36 weeks, and it's a BabyQ theme, so outside, in the July heat. I bought a black and white maxi dress on clearance and I'll probably wear it with my super comfy Nike Memory Foam Flip flops. I'm only 5' so even though maxi skirts and dresses nearly drag on the ground for me, once I put my belly in it, I'm sure it'll be normal length. ;) I have super LONG hair, and I'm thinking I'll probably curl it and pull it up in a pony tail with a pretty flower or something. Who knows, I might even change my mind by then!
  • @ShanRum3 BabyQ is hilarious I love it!!!! I had someone tell me to just cut the bottom off the maxi dress for the hot summer, so I may do that but not with my shower. Hopefully the dress fits lol... heres to first pregnancies!!!!
  • I agree, think about wearing a Maxi dress to your shower.  Sitting with your legs closed is hard by that point and if you have to sit facing a bunch of ladies and open presents, you could give quite a show.  If not, wear the dress but bring a sweater to cover your lap with.

  • @ThisisNumber3 I will definitely have a plan to cover my lap with something maybe the big garbage bag to throw the wrapping in. I'll enlist my mother to help with that.
  • This is really cute! I wish I had put more thought into my outfit when we did our shower with our first. I ended up wearing a dress I had for work and I look like I am going to meetings in all of my pictures.

I *had* to have those shoes, and I couldn't imagine buying something so impractical unless they were "for" something.

    Shameless justification.

  • @SkiChic626 I tried on that dress on the right last night but it was too large in the shoulder/boob area... I was looking for something this length. It's perfect for alot of body types. I have a black tank dress this length from target.
  • Katm89 Aaaaah got ya.  Yeah, I have very broad shoulders and huge boobs, so a lot of the flowy-type dresses that aren't made of cotton or something stretchable don't even fit my chest, even in the XL sizes the bottom of the boob part sits right across the middle of my boobs, so things like these dresses work perfect.  And the fitted body is always flattering on a baby belly!

  • I also did a below the knee, fitted dress for my shower last time. It worked much better for sitting and opening gifts.

@Allisun85 I wore high heels to mine too and it wasn't an issue at all because I was sitting most of the time anyway. It was the last time I wore heels all pregnancy, but it made me feel much prettier in my dress, so totally worth it!

@katm89, did you consider having a maxi dress hemmed? Our dry cleaner does hemming for pretty cheap, I've done it often since I'm 5'3" and most maxi's are too long on me as well. Also, the destination maternity by me has a petite section, so that might be something to look into. Your dress is adorable, though, so that's only a suggestion because it seems like you would have wanted a maxi, but couldn't get the right length!

  • @bookhousegirl I wear low wedge style heels to work all the time still, so I think it should be fine!

I also bought them a half a size up from normal, and tried them on in the store *after* my feet had started to swell (we walked around home depot first!) so I know they'll fit.

  • SkiChic626  those are lovely! Where did you find them? I can't seem to find anything that I like. I'm not sure i want a maxi dress and I do like things a little more from fitting. Shower isn't until the 5th of June so I still have time. As for my hair, whatever it wants to do that day is what it's doing.
  • michelle_shelle They're Motherhood.  It's the same dress in different prints.  I bought them in the store, but they're available online, as well. https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=965140022&MasterCategory_Id=MC3

lucypod  I love Pink Blush!  I just wish they made their dresses longer.  I couldn't even wear some of their maternity dresses stuff when I wasn't pregnant because it was too darn short!  I had a maternity/nursing dress I was going to wear after DD was born and I couldn't, at least not in public.  I ended up using it as a night dress/shirt lol  And now that you say that I'm totally seeing Arizona Iced Tea haha, but I wouldn't have put that together if you hadn't said it.

@SkiChic626 thanks! Unfortunately it's not available in Canada. Such a nice dress!

ETA: I found it! thank you, I believe I may have found my dress
  • @lucypod I looked at that dress too, it's super pretty- but it didn't match my shoes! (Yes, I bought the dress to match the shoes, not vice versa.)

And yup, now I see green tea.

  • @lucypod love that dress! I keep staring at it. Have you gotten it from zulilly yet?

@Bookhousegirl I tried on a couple maxis at destination maternity and they were very large on my breasts too. I think old navy or target might be better to get one later in the pregnancy.
  • Our baby shower is tonight and I still haven't decided what to wear! It is a couples thing and my SIL who is hosting put on the invites "dress fancy y'all" (she did this because her side of the family is likely to show up in sweatpants and t-shirts otherwise.) And I have a few options of dresses that look just find, but I find that the bump looks so much cuter in pants and a top. But the only maternity pants I have found are denim capris so I feel like that's too casual. The dresses are fine but I feel like I look fat, not pregnant. I have had the hardest time finding plus size maternity clothing this whole time so I probably can't just run out and find something else . . . What do, bumpies???
(I really wish I could post pics of my options, but I haven't been able to since the update and they haven't been able to fix it.)

@Car0liiine what did you end on wearing
  • Katm89Katm89 member
@BrunetteBabe722 I love that! I have some dresses that I would love to wear but my strapless bra no longer fits me...
  • @Katm89 Thanks :) I plan on wearing a sticking bra from target or pasties
  • I'm going shopping at motherhood tomorrow. I have a wedding memoral weekend, baby shower June 11, then maternity pictures. Hoping to find one dress for all. Wish me luck! You ladies look adorable!
  • Love the cute dresses! My shower is a tea party theme so I am looking for something flowery and then I'll add a hat, lace gloves and pearls! I have a cute LLR dress, but the sleeves on the Julia on a little longer then "short sleeve" and depending on the weather it may be too warm...

  • @katm89 I tried on a bunch of options and had DH help me choose. I was impressed that he chose the dress that he thought was 1) most flattering and 2) showed off the bump the best. So I ended up wearing the dress I had ordered off Amazon with the intention of wearing for the shower. So annoying that I can't post a pic. Fuchsia lace over nude. Will post if they ever fix the damn app.

    @Car0liiine that sounds lovely!
  • I am not a dress kind of person, so I told my friend who is throwing the shower, I would like a superhero themed shower and I asked that everyone who had a superhero shirt, to wear it! I ordered this tee to wear! Not the cape, just the shirt!!

  • Where are these dresses all from.....I love them all!  I have two showers (one in June and one in July) as well as a wedding, so I need options

  • Mine is from motherhood maternity. It's from Jessica Simpson line, which is a little spendier, but definitely cuter than a lot of the other stuff they carry. It hurt to spend $70 on a maternity dress, but I got a second dress half off and only paid $20 for that one, so yay! Lol
