June has this thread and I think it's adorable. Now that we are in third trimester it's pretty safe to show these off! Plus who doesn't want to look at baby clothes?!
This is ours. It's a sleeper gown 3/4 sleeves I think. I may throw some pants on her so that I can roll the bottom up to get in her into the car seat the right way. The hope is that will fit her regardless of her birth weight, since we've had some questionable scares with her being on the small side. Ella Grace Mc.
This might be a stupid question but ummm how do you decide what to take them home in? What size? Is it just something cute? Should it be a onesie or a pajama? Is a diaper and a shirt enough? Do special considerations need to be made for the umbilical stump thing?
I didn't have much fun with this last time. I just grabbed two outfits when I packed for the hospital, NB size and 0-3. I never really dressed up my daughter when she was a NB, I was going for comfort.
@noelietrex, there are no special clothes to allow for the umbilical cord, you just fold down the diaper (or in your case, use your super-duper NB hand made dipes!)

We did the same. We had no idea what size he would be and it was early April so the weather was all over the place. We just grabbed a couple of options and went with it.
Yeah the umbilical cord stump is really tiny, it will just fit under anything as long as the diaper/pants are not rubbing on it you're fine. And there's no real rules to this except weather appropriate ? Doesn't have to be fancy, ours was honestly chosen for ease of diaper changes and because I wanted to celebrate her name basically.
With DD I packed a NB and a 0-3 outfit. She was born in January and I thought this outfit was so cute! Pink onesie, blue jacket, matching blue striped pants, pink hat and pink socks.
Next time I would not do a onesie. We hated putting it over her head when she was so new! The coat was also hard for DH to put on her because the buttons were so tiny and his fingers were big. Also, DD had really sensitive skin so 100 % Cotton was recommended. I might do cute, cotton, button-up pajamas for this baby.
I love looking at cute baby clothes/going home outfits, but I'll be honest I don't make much of an effort with this particular tradition.
For DD, we were team green (same this time around) and it was January. I brought two outfits with us, one newborn and one 0-3 months, in case she was bigger than expected. The newborn one that she ended up going home in was a fluffy/fleecy brown onesie with a hood, and looked like a teddy bear. It was super cute but mostly functional being cold in January. Not sure what I'll bring this time around
I've got this so far. Will probably get some pants too just in case it's raining or chilly. Wanted something rainbow inspired because she is our hopeful rainbow baby. I may go get this again in 0-3 months just in case.
I too am so impressed by all the thought some of you have put into this! I think I keep telling myself I have plenty of time to figure it out, even if the days are ticking away...
July BMB Siggy Challenge: Weird Hot Dog Situations
I have a couple of friends who went a little Etsy crazy with special outfits, and I now have 3 potential going home outfits that I can't decide between. My first opinion is the Brand Sparkling New one, but I don't know. Thoughts??
I did frame my son's (a sweet onesie from our university) in a shadow box with his hat, hospital bracelets, soothie, and I used one of his receiving blankets as the background, so I am sure I will do the same for her. His going home outfit was also the one I had his hospital pics taken in.
Love the brand sparkling new one! That's one I'm thinking of getting as well!
I think that one makes the most sense, and surely it's the most comfortable of the 3. I think she said it had a bow that was shipping separately, haha... But I'm pretty sure I also have a ruffled little cotton skirt for her that will match it.
@WVUPetunia LOVE the Natalie belle one! You have some great friends!

We bought both of these so we could mix and match depending on the weather. Babies are more sensitive to cold, so even though it will be hot in July, her sensitive skin and the A/C will still require some layers. I love throwing navy in to temper the mass amounts of pink we are going to inevitably get.
I also have a FANTASTIC red, white, and blue hand-me-down jumper for her to wear so I'm crossing my fingers she doesn't come late and miss the Fourth of July!
This picture doesn't do it justice but it's a hand knit little kimono with pants. I'll put her in a onesie underneath. I'm banking on the fact that while it will be warm, she will be in AC most of the time. I wanted something we could pass down. My mom loved to put me in strawberry clothing so that's where the hat and booties idea came from.
We were Team Green with DD and had a boy outfit picked out, and a girl outfit. I actually had them on hangers and hanging from cabinet handles in the delivery room, as my focus point and motivation to get the kid out. They were both newborn size, but the girl one ran a little small, and she came out at over 9 pounds. I did have another outfit in the diaper bag, so she went home in that outfit....which I wasn't really a fan of, but she fit in it (barely), so we used it. This time, we are Team Greenish-Pinkish (<---- yep, made it up for our situation) and we decided to do it a little different. We wont leave the hospital until the evening when it has cooled down, so it will be fine putting the baby in a sleeper. We got the solid white sleeper (that has built in gloves) from Baby Gap. Then we let DD pick out a girl blanket and a boy blanket from a boutique type company, and this baby will get a boring outfit but a cool "going home" blanket instead.
This might be a stupid question but ummm how do you decide what to take them home in? What size? Is it just something cute? Should it be a onesie or a pajama? Is a diaper and a shirt enough? Do special considerations need to be made for the umbilical stump thing?
I would just get something that will be easy to put them in a carseat. I know that sometimes gowns are popular in the beginning, but you would have to pull them up around their waist to buckle them into the seat when you leave. You wont have to worry about the umbilical cord, as it is pretty flexible/soft at that point (not dried out and hard). Hospitals discharge at all different times. Some say you have to be out at a certain time, others will say that you can leave that day, but they don't care what time. So I would just plan accordingly to what temp you think it will be when you leave - like if it is in the middle of the day in summer, it will be hot. But where we live, it cools down in the evening to a decent temp. When it comes to size, if there is an outfit that you absolutely LOVE and want to use, I would get it in two sizes (preemie and newborn). Even though my DD was over 9 pounds, she did still fit in a newborn outfit that went to 8 pounds (although it was snug). Many of my friends fell in love with certain outfits, got them in NB size, and then their babies were 6-7.5 pounds and swimming in the outfit, so they were glad that they had also snagged a preemie size, just in case.....because then they wore preemie for the first week or so. Even though our plan is to use the plain white Baby Gap sleeper, I will have this outfit (shown below) just in case....if it is blazing hot and the temp isn't going down, or if we decide we want to leave earlier in the day, or whatever. I think that it is nice to have a couple of different options. Some people just keep them in a diaper and the hospital shirt, but some like to change their clothes and have them in something else, just depends on your preference. I was due with DD on the 23rd of Oct, and my mom thought that it was stupid that I was packing a sleeper that was Halloween themed. Well, we ended up being in the hospital for five days (four with DD on the outside world), and it just so happened that she was born less than 30min shy of Halloween. So on Halloween, we posted that she had arrived and was ready for trick-or-treating, her stats, etc.
These are all so cute! I'm waiting until after my showers to decide whether or not to buy a separate outfit. There are so many cute things though. My brother got her little "Air Jordan" booties that came with a little hat, so I might use those somehow, but we'll see!
I am somehow now stressed thinking about what outfits I'll pack for the little one. Ahhhh! Haha I think I'll wait until the shower and then find something extra if needed.
I didn't think much of it last time. Just a cheap onesie and some matching pants. It did not occur to me to bring a size 0-3 months because most newborn sizes I believe say up to 10 pounds. DD was in nb until about 6 weeks. The nb stuff was actually falling off of her even born 11 days past her due date. We still brought two outfits because we were team green and I'm not a fan of neutral clothing. Probably why I didn't invest in a nice take home outfit though, since one might never be worn.
You ladies are on the ball. I have nothing planned nor do I barely have any baby items yet. Hopefully after my showers we will have an outfit picked out.

We haven't decided yet but I'll most likely go with a snap-up romper with a blanket over top. I'm going to bring a couple options but most likely will go with this one since it was a gift from my mom:

we were Team Green with #1 and this is what we took DD home in. I may do the same for #2 just because I'm sentimental...
I have no clue what I'll bring this babe home in. I've been looking for ideas, but nothing has stuck yet.

#4 will also wear the FSU hat home along with this short set more than likely.

It's the only new piece of clothing we have bought for this baby otherwise I wouldn't have a clue what he was wearing home.
