Car Seat Straps

The other day I adjusted my DS's car seat straps since he's now tall enough for the adjustment and he has a proper fit. He's been extremely fussy since then in the seat and I've noticed that now the straps are starting to rub against his neck pretty bad. So I'm assuming that his problem since it gets super red. I know after market additions like the strap pads or inserts aren't reccomended, so what  on earth am I supposed to do about it? What do you mommas do? At this point I feel like I need to get him the strap covers but just find thin enough ones? I have no clue!

Re: Car Seat Straps

  • I usually pull up the neck of Ruth's shirt before pulling the strap tight, so the strap ends up rubbing on her shirt in stead of her neck.

    I've tried but he's such a wiggle worm  :/
  • I bought the strap covers(they are super thin) most car seats come with them anyways and it doesn't seem
to interfere with how she's strapped
    in.
  • We have the strap pads with little owls on them and LO loves them. They are like another toy to him. We also had them with DD. I've never heard of them being an issue. Why are they not recommended?
  • My car seat (Britax) comes with the pads.

I don't currently have enough hands to type it all out lol so here is this excerpt from an article on it

Why? Because these items were not included in car seat safety tests and may impact the physics of how a seat functions in a crash. In many cases, aftermarket products void the warranty on your car seat.  I was also told by the certified Child Passenger Safety Technician in my class (but have not been able to verify) that insurance companies may also deny injury claims if aftermarket products were found to be used in a car seat involved in a crash."

Mine didn't come with the pads. Just the padding insert which he's already grown out of.

Perhaps contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • I have strap..let's call them more covers than pads. They're homemade with some fabric and Velcro. Just thick enough so the straps wouldn't cut into him. He doesn't mind the car seat near as much now that I put them on.

I had to cave the other day and buy him some thin Velcro covers like that from target because he was just getting too uncomfortable. He's been riding a lot better since!
