hate my bladder right now

I feel like I have to pee constantly and whenever I go, practically nothing is coming out. I'm going to ask my doctor to check for a UTI even though there is no pain. Has anyone else experienced bladder problems/UTI so far and what do you do to relieve it?

Re: hate my bladder right now

  • I've developed a bladder infection in this pregnancy. I just finished my antibiotics. I never had any symptoms no pain or anything. I was so surprised when the doctor said I had an infection. The last time i had a UTI I KNEW it.

  • Pregnant women are at increased risk of asymptomatic, or atypical, UTIs. Wouldn't be abnormal. Definitely something to talk to your doctor about it.

  • Yup, and it gets worse as you get bigger...and unfortunately for a lot of women your bladder is never the same again.

One trick is after you've gone as much as you think you can, lean forward, or forward and to each side and usually you'll be able to go more. Oh the joys of motherhood!
  • Mine's doing the same thing.  I don't think I have a UTI because I've had many of those and this feels totally different - more like a grapefruit is squeezing everything, making it hard to get it all out.  I've been leaning forward to squeeze out the last drops.  Seems to be helping.

Or could be a UTI.  I usually only have a day between "hmm" and "yep, time for antibiotics."
Mine are unmistakeable.  A pain that makes me cringe for the last few drops.  With bleeding and a fever.

You could always start on cranberry juice or cranberry supplements, but it has to be the real deal, not the sugar water with cranberries pictured on the label. And tons of water.

  • Ok you guys are scaring me with the asymptomatic UTIs...
Aren't there OTC screening kits these days to check for UTI?

Meant to say could be normal and not a UTI, though always worth checking with your doctor.
@sunbeam1 I don't think I have a UTI, just annoying pregnancy bladder already.

It's normal to do a urine dip at most prenatal appointments and a urine culture around 16-20w to check, at least that is the norm here and in my home province. It's more of a concern later on (risk of preterm labour) but if you think you might be experiencing a UTI its best to talk to your care provider.

Also as Sheva said, might be nothing but doesn't hurt to check. :)

  • I thought I had a uti this week, went to the hospital but my OB was on call so they said they would do a culture and call me in a few days. Now they're saying it was contaminated and I have to go back. I asked for the urine dip but they said no. Luckily my symptoms have mostly gone away (normally if I don't get antibiotics within 24 hours I'd be super uncomfortable). I already have chronic uti's so you'd think they'd give me the initial test. I really hope that my pregnancy isn't filled with uti's every time I have sex (SO has been very patient but it is still driving us both crazy).
  • I have the same issue :( I'm always up a few hours after falling asleep because I wasn't able to completely empty my bladder before bed. I think the feeling of a full bladder in pregnancy though is pretty common since everything is pushing on it. I did have them test me for a UTI because of that reason and my pee was cloudy but they didn't find anything?
  • @ACarullo I wake up about 5 times every night to pee. So annoying.

@ash111916 I have chronic UTIs too. I get one at least once a month, but this feels nothing like a uti. Just an annoying pressing feeling on my bladder 24/7. Good to know other woman are having the same problem.

  • I had this around the 16 week mark with DD. It could be a UTI but after my tests all came back negative, my OB concluded it was my uterus pushing on my bladder. I'm not sure if that could be it this early though.
