Tubes Tied During C-Section

I was lurking the June board and checking out the thread on permanent birth control. I wondered if anyone was considering getting tubes tied at their c-section? I plan to talk to my doctor and do my research, but honestly, the thought had never occurred to me, so I wanted to just hear other people's thoughts/prior knowledge.

Re: Tubes Tied During C-Section

  • My doctor actually brought it up in one of my first appointments since we knew I'd get a repeat c-section. I haven't given him an answer yet, but I think that answer is going to be no. Although we're 99.9% sure we don't want anymore children, I can't commit to the finality of having my tubes tied. I'm a worry wart and think of the .01% worst case scenarios and it just gives me doubts. If I'm going to make such a final decision, I need to be 110% sure.

  • I'm going to do it. I'm having a repeat c section and will do it during. My husband are 100% sure we're done. I do not want anymore kids and want something permanent.

I'm planning on getting a tubal after the baby is born.  Hopefully I will have a vaginal delivery and they will do the procedure later in the day or the next morning.  We are 100% sure this is the last baby.  I'm lucky my DH even agreed to baby #3 so I promised I would go through with the tubal!
  • I requested to get a tubal if I have C-section.  I spoke to my doctors at my 36 week apt because they will not allow you to do this the day of because they don't want you to do it in haste...I only want to get a tubal if I have a C-section if not my my husband is getting snipped.  This is our third baby and I am 36 so I know for sure I am finished.   Also, my doctors said they will not do laproscopic tubal until 6 weeks pp because of the risk of perfortrated.

No because personally the benefits didn't outweigh the risks.
  • I'm most likely having another vaginal delivery but my hospital will tie my tubes at my 6 week PP checkup.

  • Oh hell yes, this was supposed to be baby #2 and we ended up with baby #2 and #3 (twins). I wanted two total!
Tubal during a c-section doesn't add to recovery time, and it doesn't involve my husband being out of commission at all. He would be happy to get snipped but if I'm already getting cut up might as well get it all done.
  • Yep. I'm having it done this go round.

  • I really wanted to (this is baby #3, were done, I'm 40, I'll be open in the OR so simple) but the hospital is Catholic and refused. SO MAD.

    Wtf???

  • I am also a repeat c-s, and baby #3, but I'm only 99.9% sure this our last LO.  Likely, DH will get a vasectomy in a few years.  We're both 29, and I'm a little surprised none of my OBs even offered sterilization as a potential birth control option.

Yeah the Catholic hospital here won't either. A friend's sister having her 4th baby at 38, with a difficult pregnancy that included surgery for kidney stones still was refused. She went to the non denominational hospital instead.
    Such BS

The birth center I'm with has religious affiliations as well and doesn't prescribe birth control at all. I use NFP anyway and don't use them as my normal GYN even if I did, but I thought it was kinda odd.

    What risks?

I'm all for it. We are d.o.n.e. after this LO. Therefore if we aren't able to VBAC, then I've already told my doctor to go ahead and do it. I just need to check and see if there is any paperwork I need to fill out ahead of time. If we do VBAC, then it'll be up to DH, which will be a struggle convincing him to go through with it. I should have had him do it when The Masters was on TV. Oh well, football season is coming up.

  • Yep! So annoying. I can't change hospitals unfortunately, because it's the only hospital with a level 3 NICU.. And my last baby needed the NICU so I can't chance it.
So obnoxious, just makes me so angry.
  • Just had my RCS and tubal ligation. All went smoothly, except there was a large nodule on one of my ovaries that they sent for a biopsy...not that I am surprised since my mom had very early ovarian cancer (caught when it was just a couple of cells in a nodule and she just got both ovaries removed) and my sister just had a colposcopy to remove and biopsy a growth on her cervix. If it looks bad, we may have to consider a double oopherectomy again, which was temporarily off the table.

The hospital that I'm delivering at is also Catholic so they won't do the tubal ligation either. Many women are suing the hospital over this. However, I will to go to a different building (right next to the hospital with my OBGYN) to get my tubes tied 6 weeks PP so I really have no complaint with it. I'm really sorry you ladies (and your friend) are having such a difficult time with this situation.

@laurenmdrn16 I hope everything comes back ok! And congrats on Luna :)
