Pure Magnesium Bath

Hey ladies,

So a co-worker of mine bought me a huge thing of Life-flo 'Pure magnesium flakes'. You're suppose to add a cup or two to warm bath water and soak for 20 minutes. She said she did it with her pregnancies and it helped her soreness and swelling. Which I'm sure most of you have read me complain about how much I have swollen and continue to do so. It really is getting out of control by the end of the day so I am desperate for relief. I have googled it a bunch and it seems to be safe and actually beneficial to expecting moms. Has anyone specifically used magnesium, not just the Epsom salt? Did it help? Have you heard otherwise that it's not recommended during pregnancy? etc.

Re: Pure Magnesium Bath

  • I wouldn't ask strangers what's safe for you during pg. Call your doctor and ask. Not to be snarky but I don't understand chancing a soak with magnesium based off of what non-doctors say.

  • Magnesium can help with tissue development as well, which is why it's so good post baby. Maybe try a sitz bath with it? I've been spraying myself with magnesium oil about twice a week. I don't necessarily notice a difference but maybe I will once I don't feel split in two post baby.

  • I'm not sure what "pure magnesium flakes" are...but I would say if you're using them as a soak you would be fine. It's not going to absorb through the skin much if at all. I can't imagine it is going to be much different to Epsom salt baths. You can safely take magnesium tablets in pregnancy so the dose of the tablets would be much higher. Just double check what is actually in the product because you never know...they say pure then throw a whole bunch of other crap in!! If you let me know what the active compound is I will double check it for you to make sure it's safe :)
  • Sometimes it's not so much the additive, but the warm water soaking that does the most!
