Moms of Multiples Weekly Check In: Week of April 11th

Hello fellow moms of multiples! Sorry for being late starting this thread again.

I will start this thread every Sunday or Monday with some discussion questions for everyone to answer when they have time. I would love for this thread to be dynamic and for people to continue posting throughout the week. So just because you've posted once and have answered all of the questions, doesn't mean you shouldn't post again with a question or anything else you're thinking about!

Here are our discussion questions for this week:

1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

11 weeks and expecting di di twins

2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

I am really looking forward to the end of this week, which I am considering to be the end of my second trimester. I know there's some debate about whether it's 12 weeks, 13, weeks, or 14 weeks but my doctor told me the m/c risk drops at 12 and stays constant the rest of pregnancy so I've decided to consider it 12.

3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I am doing better this week. My cold is gone, I am feeling less tired, and my nausea seems to have let up a bit. I am definitely feeling ready for a better second trimester.

My biggest source of stress this week is that I'm making plans to organize the house top to bottom to turn an office in our home into a nursery and to make room for baby gear in our garage and in other rooms of the house. We need to get rid of some stuff in order to do that, and I'm definitely afraid my husband is going to resist doing the purging we need to do to make space. I am looking forward to reorganizing and then getting to plan the nursery!

4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

We have an office next to our bedroom that we plan to convert into a small nursery. We plan to have both babies in there together (we don't have other kids). I am trying to find cribs that have drawers underneath so that we can get as much storage space as possible since the room is small. We are eyeing the Ikea Stuva crib, along with an ikea Stuva changing table and an ikea hemnes daybed that all have drawers underneath.

    1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

14w3d weeks and expecting BOY di di twins.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

Anatomy scan in a few weeks!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I'm so excited to start decorating the nursery.  We are doing an adventure/wilderness/rustic theme and bought the chandelier last weekend.  It's going to be so much cheaper now that we don't need to have two nurseries! Haha.

    4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

The third bedroom is about to get renovated to make room for the babies.  Right now it's a catch all/dog room. We are replacing the carpet with wood floors, putting up a plank wall, and painting.  We are ordering the cribs this weekend too!

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

14w2d and expecting di di twins (at least one boy according to our informaseq results; impatiently waiting for anatomy scan for second twin)

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to our anatomy scan in less than a month.  I would love to do an elective gender scan, but I don't want to have to pay money when I know we'll have so many other expenses later this year.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I'm so glad my energy level has picked up.  I had really let the house go during IVF, and so now I'm working on purging.  I hate cleaning, but DH finally agreed for me to hire someone half a day every other week to help us with deep cleaning.

    4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

If pinning and creating a registry count, then yes!  :)  I have a basic idea, but that may well change based on the second baby's gender.  I feel that it may be boy/girl twins, and am currently planning based off of that.  We have hardwood floors in our bedrooms, and their is some really old, funky, needs to be replaced paneling in their room, but we may make do with a fresh coat of white paint.  I am loving the gray cribs that are everywhere now, especially the brown-gray tinted ones.  So basically, everything I'm looking at is gray and white, with accents of blue/aqua and pink/coral thrown in for each baby.

    Kind of like this...

Oh, and I fell in love with this...

I'm sure I could make this myself, but don't have the time or patience to do it!  :)

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

    15 weeks, di di twins.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

    Anatomy scan in 3 weeks!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I'm feeling so much more confident and secure after my quick little ultrasound last week! And making a list of actual "must haves" for when they arrive is making me feel a little more prepared- it's really not quite so bad as it originally seemed. Also traded in my Jetta for a Highlander this weekend, which I'm loving!

    4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

We will keep them in a pack n play in our room the first few months, then move them into what is currently the office. It's already a nice soft gray color, and we will move the glider and crib from our son's current nursery. So just need a second crib, dresser, and probably some new curtains. Will pick more colors once we know the sexes!

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

13 weeks 5 days, di di twins.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

Anatomy scan in a few weeks! We plan to do a gender reveal party so we are looking for ideas online now so that we won't have to wait very long for the party once we have results in hand.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

We had our NT scan today and everything looked great. I won't get my finger prick blood results back until next week but at least the scan was all positive. That felt really good.

    4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

All we have done so far is take measurments of the room we will be using for the nursery which is currently a computer room. I don't plan to make any decorating decisions until we know the genders.

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

12 weeks 5 days with di di twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

My NT scan is tomorrow. I'm excited to see the babies for sure, but I can't help being a little nervous too. Other than that, because I've used that for like 3 weeks now, I cannot freaking wait to know their genders!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I have had a cold/cough for TWELVE DAYS now. I AM SO OVER IT! Also I had a UTI I was taking Macrobid for and, surprise surprise, it gave me a yeast infection! We already haven't been having sex because of light spotting we don't want to make worse, but I am going CRAZY. My libido is out of control!

    4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

No, not really. We're living with my in laws until we can buy a house so we're currently confined to a single bedroom. It's really stressing me out recently and I'm trying to make plan much much sooner than we originally thought. Having the babies while still there honestly makes my skin crawl a little. They're extremely nice, if not a little nosy, i just need my own space, and i need to be able to plan ahead for these babies! I feel horrible and ungrateful but i can't help it.

@lmno304  I love my in laws... But I can't imagine the stress I would feel living with them!! Try not to feel too guilty because being confined to one room would be tough on any couple, especially when adding two more to your family.

    1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

15 w 4 d and expecting di di twins.  We know at least one is a boy but baby B had his/her legs crossed.  Hopefully we will see next time!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

Feeling the babies move!! I thought I felt something last week but now I think it was wishful thinking.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

We are meeting with a perinatal dr on Monday.  Taking all positive vibes that the babies look okay!

    4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

If it's two boys I agreed with DH that we could do a super hero theme. But if it's one of each I'm not sure what we will do quite yet

  • @GoBucksOH Would you do a gender reveal party differently with two different genders, or just reveal one at a time? I never thought about the logistics of it with twins! One idea: a friend of mine had a little pinata filled with colored confetti; you could do all pink or blue, or mix both colors! Or you could do cupcakes with "A" on top of some and "B" on top of the others with different colored cake or filling to represent each sex.

@girvin21 you could still do superheroes with a boy and a girl :) Wonder Woman, Super Girl, Catwoman, etc.
  • @kmvisioli - I like the idea of doing balloons in a giant box and then opening the box in front of everyone for all of the balloons to come flying out. If we do have 1 of each gender, I would just do a mix of pink and blue balloons inside the box. I am still researching ideas online though, so my mind could change ;-)

  • @kmvisioli  That's a cute idea!  & I definitely think DH would love it :)

@GoBucksOH  If you did balloons you could do a box for baby A & one for baby B.  No matter what-how fun!!

    1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

    12 weeks 5 days - twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

Saturday makes second trimester! I'm trying a new doctor out on Tuesday to see if she is willing to be more hands on/monitor me more, and on the 30th we are going to find out the sexes!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

these emotions. I am a walking disaster and roller coaster these past few days. Everything makes me want to cry and overreact, I can't handle it. I hope the second trimester magically brings more balance.

    4. Question of the week: Have you started planning your nursery or baby sleeping arrangements? What are your plans?

we picked a room finally - had already painted one originally. And in order to compromise both of our ideas and themes, we are splitting the huge room in half. Half of the room is the sleep and rocker area, the other half is where toys will be, the changer, basically the play and bright area. The greys and mint colors and soothing baby animals that I want will encompass the sleep area, the play/toy area will be whatever SO finds attractive and we will help each other Out. For instance, she picked out the chandelier for my area and I picked out the color of the bookshelf in her area. Compromise, right? We will be splitting the areas by sheer curtains hanging from the drop down in the ceiling so that there is a distinct difference. I've attached a picture of the room right now. The area with the pictures is where the cribs and rocker will be. :)
  • @samijrichards  That space looks amazing!! Great ideas and great comprises :). Also- I hope the new dr is a better fit!! That is definitely so important.

Thank you! It took some time to get there, lol. And ME TOO, I just hate that we will have to be treated as new patients all over again. Blah.
  • I LOVE that room, @samijrichards!
