Highchair advice

I tried to find a thread to put this on but didn't see anything... anyway we are thinking of getting a high chair that straps on to a regular chair (the Graco SwiviSeat Booster is what we were looking at). Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on whether or not this is a good idea. We were thinking it would take up less space and be more convenient than a stand alone high chair, but as first time parents we aren't really sure what's best!

Re: Highchair advice

  • This is what we have and I've been very happy with it. Going on two years of use and will probably get a second one because dd will likely still be using it by the time we start this one on solids. Highly recommend it.

  • I think you'd be fine with that as long as you have the extra chair for the seat. It reclines for an infant and i like that it transitions with the kid. We have the Graco Blossom 4 in 1 high chair that is a separate high chair that turns into a booster that attaches to a reg chair.
  • This are nice if you're limited on space, but we have an adjustable stand alone one, with a removable toy thing for the tray, and I loved it. It's one of the things we still have from our 6 year old, and I'm glad. It's nice to be able to wheel it around, like into the living room or on the patio. We eat outside a lot in the summer. It got more use than just meal time for us, but it wasn't necessary. Just convenient for me
  • Thanks ladies! I appreciate the input!
  • I love my regualr graco blossom hi chair. At 2.5 I putvher in it while I cook. She. An be close to me. Or if I'm alone and need to shower, I buckle her in and let her watch a short show on tv. I like being able to mover her around the house and still having all my dining room chairs.
  • We have a regular high chair, and we do have the space for it, but DD hated it.  Even at 4 mos (she was sitting up on her own by then) when we started sitting her in it she was like get me out of this thing!  Someone had bought us a travel chair that straps to a regular seat so we tried that and she's been in it ever since!  The regular high chair has been sitting in the basement....we'll try it with this LO but he may not like it either.

  • I like them!  We had a standalone high chair at home, but we used an all plastic cheapie strap to the chair one when we were at my parents' house.  It worked great and was easier to clean than our bulky high chair.  Honestly, the more plain old plastic there is, the better!  Getting old food out of fabric, or constantly tossing the cover in the wash, is a pain in the neck.

  • When I registered for DD, I couldn't find a high chair I liked that either folded up and stowed easily or wasn't a total eyesore in the dining room (since it'd be there all the time!).  So instead we took the advice of a friend and got the Inglesina hook-on.  It stays at our dining room table, is easy to clean, and is so inconspicuous!  DD is 18mos now and still uses it.  We never needed a recline feature.  We also purchased the $20 ikea highchair for use outside or other parts of the house.  It's been a great value!

  • I registered and got one, but used the stand alone chair we were gifted. It was great for awhile because of the wheels, but it takes up too much space. A friend gave us the kind of chair you get at a restaurant and our kid loves it. He gets pushed right up to the table and eats with us.
  • We have never had a standalone chair and never missed it. I've never felt we needed the recline feature, and the plastic is so easy to wipe down. It was also so easy to throw in the car to take to grandparents or friends' houses.

  • We bought the $20 ikea chair for my in laws house and I actually prefer that over my boon highchair. It's light and easy to move around. I do like the idea of the swiviseat booster though! DD is almost 18 mo old now and mostly uses her little play table for meals but messier ones still take place in the highchair.
