Mild cramping near end of first trimester?

Hi ladies!

I am 12wk 5d and the past couple days I've had an increase in mild cramping intermittently. No spotting, nothing crazy painful, and not all day everyday.

I'm thinking it's just my uterus growing but would be interested to hear if anyone is has or is experiencing this. I'm extra nervous since we had a great US last Thursday and started telling our friends.

Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

Re: Mild cramping near end of first trimester?

  • I have felt this too the last few days. I am 14 weeks. I keep telling myself it is just baby growing, but not sure.

  • I'm 12 +2 and have had it as well. Most of the time, its GI cramping but it's hard to tell the difference and I only realize it in hindsight after gas passes or I have a BM. Sorry if that's TMI, just want to point out that everything is generally in the same area so what you're feeling isn't necessarilly always uterine cramping even if it feels exactly the same, at least in my case. That being said, my OB said it's normal to have mild cramping on and off for the entire pregnancy. Not everyone does of course but everything is stretching and moving. I know it's easier said than done but try not to borrow trouble, chances are good that everything is perfect.

  • I am 14 weeks and I've felt it the last week or so off and on. I agree with @mrscorker that in hindsight it almost always seems to have been GI-related.

  • 11w3d and I've had periodic cramping the last few days. My doctor said to expect it on and off throughout, there's so much moving, growing, and stretching down there. Her advice was to call if it is accompanied by bleeding, fever, or if the cramps cause severe pain after Tylenol.

  • I'm 14 + 1 and I've been having round ligament pains for about 2 weeks. Feels like a PMS sharp cramp but not as intense and only if I move too quickly (getting/sitting up quickly, bending over quick, or twisting around). It's sharp but goes away fairly quickly. They're not as far out to the sides as my doc said they might be but i imagine as I grow they will spread out! I also have gas/BM cramps but I know those are different because I can feel them "move" through my system. My MIL had told me she had mild cramping her whole pregnancy with DH and there were never any issues.
  • My OB told me I could expect spotting  (and mild cramping) after any visit where she does  a vaginal exam or TV Ultrasound, just because all of the bits are extra sensitive.

If the pain isn't horrific and you're not bleeding, you're good.

  • It's probably just Round Ligament Pain (RLP). It feels like cramping but doesn't last. I always get it when I sit down, or stand up, or move suddenly, like a quick twist to catch my kid from falling off a chair. Or its just your intestines hating you! :P

  • lol I have the cramping and get terrified and then I suddenly have to poop immediately. the poop calms my fears LOL
  • I had moderate cramping around the end of first tri. It was a bit scary, but no spotting or anything. It was mixed in with uncomfortable bouts of RLP. Pretty much all of that pain is gone now that I'm at 15 weeks.
  • I'm 13w3d and I've had cramping every single day since ovulation. But it's started to change. Up until last week it was purely period-like cramping. Doctor said it's normal and just me feeling my uterus expand. However these last few days that has been reduced but I've started experiencing what must be RLP. It's a sharper pain and much more lateral, right behind my pelvic bones. Doctor said that's normal, too. Basically any cramping is normal as long as there's no spotting.

  • I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and I've had mild cramping the past couple of days, accompanied by light brown spotting.  Just called my doctor's office and he wants to see me tomorrow morning.  I know this can be normal so I'm trying not to freak out...but it's so hard not to!  Positive thoughts are much appreciated!!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I've had them too, 13 weeks. I'm calling it growing pains, positive thinking. I have an OB appointment on Wednesday.
  • I get the little pains too, have since about 6 weeks and I'm 14 weeks today.  I just chalk it up to my uterus trying to stretch as fast as the baby can grow. When I get an intense cramp, it's followed by a poop, usually diarrhea, which calms my nerves as well.  I was hoping the little cramp type pulses was the baby moving but I got told nope, not the right sensation.

  • I cramped through my whole last pregnancy. Water and moving around helped a bit.

  • My whole body has so many aches and pains since hitting 2nd tri. Backaches, sciatica acting up, and lots of cramps/twinges/random pains in my lower abdomen. Assuming it's all normal from the growing uterus!

  • I've had them, too. 13+6 days and I was having a bit of cramping and body aches, RLP.

I'm almost 14 weeks and I've had mild cramping since BFP. Drinking water and laying down helps me the most

  • I would like to add an addendum to my comment. At my appointment today I learned that as long as I'm having regular cramping I get an ultrasound with every appointment. There is a silver lining to the fact that I feel like I've had my period for three months

  • I'm 11w3d and had some mild cramping yesterday. I think it's just everything growing and stretching in there. I hadn't had cramping in awhile, so I checked on baby with the doppler this am, and picked up a strong heartbeat. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this!!

  • I called my doctor after several hours of cramping and they are wanting me to come in for an ultrasound this morning.
