Second baby

Any mommas thinking about when they'll have their next baby? I'm a FTM and I always said I want my kids 2 years a part...well now that I'm a mom, yeah right! That would mean getting pregnant again this fall and I'm just not ready. Now, I'm thinking we'll try again fall of 2017. I don't want my babies too far a part in age, but I was just wondering what other moms are thinking.

For those who have more than 1 child, how far apart are your babies? Do you have some words of wisdom or opinions on having closer together or further apart in age?

I will say, I can't plan it all. It will happen in God's perfect timing but I sure want another baby one day

Re: Second baby

  • 2 boys...DS1 turned 2 in January and DS2 will be 9 months this month. Not quite 18 months apart, we are tired but we love it!!!! Watching them interact with each other and play now that DS2 is mobile is sooooo fun!!!!

We're going to start trying again in August, after DS turns 1, and shooting for April - May - June of next year. If that works out they would be 22 - 24 months apart. I'm a teacher, so it's better for us financially if I can compound my leave with summer break (since my paychecks are split over 12 months so I still get paid over the summer).

ETA that we had been trying for the last three months (it took us 2 years to get pregnant last time) but we're taking a break for a few months for wedding season. ;)

  • I am trying as we speak because of my age and it took us so long to get pregnant, so I leave it In Gods hand, he will decide when it's the right time but I am doing my part
  • Mom of 2 boys, 2 1/2 years apart. DS1 just turned 3 in January and DS2 is 9 months. It's crazy most days but the best kind of crazy. At the end of the day, my house is a mess but my heart is so full! So glad they are close in age, I can't wait to see what the summer brings!
  • Mom of 3 boys the first two are 4 and half years apart and the middle and baby are 5 years apart . I'm my opinion it's the perfect gap between them their all still really close to each other and I think it's a lot easier because their all at different stages and also the older ones are such a huge help and very independent . I love it.just me as a person I'd go crazy having them one after the other lol I give props to the mom who can do it
  • ^this! I have a boy who turned 4 a month after our daughter was born. It's a good spacing. He's able to do things by himself like dress and clean up toys. They have different needs and (so far) no jealousy. They are very sweet together. And I felt like the 4 year gap gave us time to enjoy him and all his firsts.
  • Two girls, 3 years and 3 days apart.  We love it!!  The oldest is more "independent" and can clearly tell us what she needs and she is WONDERFUL with her sister!  The baby LOVES watching her older sister and is doing things much faster!!  I don't think we could have them closer, but I'm a SAHM and there are plenty of challenges even 3 years apart.  Thinking of the future, I'm glad they'll be in school together :-)
  • We have talked about spacing a few times. DH wouldn't mind trying again as soon as LO turns one. I think I'd rather wait until she turns 2.

  • We want them to be about 4 years apart.  :)
  • We want to have another soon but have to do IVF in order to conceive which means LO has to wean beforehand.  I want to let him self wean, so I'm hoping he will between 12 and 18 months.

  • My first was conceived via IVF. We didn't think we needed to use birth control after he was born. I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant with number 2! It's going to be craaaaazy. So nervous, but it's a blessing being we didn't think we could ever conceive naturally!

My son turned 6 two days after the baby was born. I like that he is independent and a great helper!!! I think ideally I'd of liked a 4 yr spacing but like PP said I really got to enjoy him and all his stages before my daughter came along. I think what is meant to be for you is what will happen.
  • I was never sure if we would get a chance at a second baby (infertile needing IVF) but when I thought about it I wanted to start trying around 3.5-4 so that first baby was potty trained, more emotionally supported, and into public school settings. (Two in daycare is killer) We got the opportunity through health insurance to have our IVF covered so we jumped on it before my son was 3. It's going to be tight having formula (can't bf), diapers, and two in daycare but it's a short amount of time and I think it'll be ok. Thankfully my son potty trained early so we won't have two in diapers, and he's pretty good at communicating his feelings and needs.

  • I was really happy with our DDs 3 years and 2 months apart.  DD1 is able to crawl in and out of her car seat.  She has long been potty trained and sleeping very well.  We were well experienced with setting up a bedtime routine, so DD2 became a good sleeper and napper from a very early age (6 weeks).  As a result, we had lots of free time for 1:1 time with DD1 while DD2 was asleep, swashing any jealousy.
