Second Timers (or more) What are you Obsessed With?

Re: Second Timers (or more) What are you Obsessed With?

  • I'm a FTM, but I love Kickee Pants, @izzetoot!  I picked up a few pieces on sale (two rompers and a short sleeve onesie) recently and they're so soft.  I wish they made the baby clothes in adult sizes (I know they make t-shirts and a few other things for women, but I legit want the baby pajamas in my size).  I want a romper in the boy's space stripe print.

I wish they weren't so expensive, but it's good to know they have reliable resale value.  I was looking into getting some more outfits on Amazon but keep getting held up by the cost.  The main question if I do buy more is whether to skip the newborn sizes and go straight to 0-3 months since they'll wear them longer or cave and get newborn stuff so they'll be cute and comfy right from the get-go (since I'm having twins, I doubt they'll be big enough for 0-3 months for a while, unlike my 10-pound newborn self).

My UO is that I hate the girls' prints.  I'm a big pink-hater (I refuse to dress my hypothetical daughter[s] in pink unless/until they tell me they want to wear it) and it seems like most everything they make for girls is pink or nearly-pink.  I don't know that we're having a girl (or girls) yet, so it may be irrelevant anyway, but I'm all about the boys' prints.  I think they're mostly gender neutral, anyway, so I'm fine dressing a girl in them.

Children's consignment sales and stores are my new obsession. My child will own nothing new.
Im right there with you! I went to a consignment store yesterday for the first time and got a bunch of maternity clothes from motherhood and Liz Lange and enough clothes to last DS through the summer for $60 - all looked brand new. Why have I not been doing this the whole time?!
Yes!  Consignment sales are where 99% of my kids clothes come from.
  • I'm diligently reading this thread seeing what my future has in store for me.
  • I've never had luck with consignment sales, on clothes. Most of our fear is used but I've never found decent quality clothes and/or don't have the patience to dig through racks.

  • I shop consignment sales and facebook groups for these items for our 3 yr old: books, keen shoes, sun&san sandals, gymboree or janie&jack dresses, bathing suits with tutu skirts, etc.

and have started loading up on these (that I loved for #1) for our next one: aden + anais swaddle blankets, miracle blanket swaddles in gender-neutral colors, halo sleepsacks, nursing bras/tanks, pampers diapers 10c or less each, gender neutral carters sleepers, babylegs, etc.

I also love washable crayola crayons. Cannot say enough about them! :)

FTM mom here and I'm already consignment/thrift shopping for my LO! I find it kind of fun to search through and find the real gems -- yesterday I found a pair of baby overalls, and instantly fell in love. Yep, they're size 12 mo, and baby is still 6 months from even being here... buuuut, they're already in the closet!
  • @skooterblenny swaddle blankets have become my obsession for this one too. We were gifted a ton with DS and plan to reuse some of those, but I'm a sucker for the cute girly prints (I'm pretty sure I'm opposite @MojieJo, this girl will be wearing all the pink, bows and tutus until she tells me she doesn't want to). I figure since we have most of what we need already, I can splurge on some more swaddle blankets since we used them so much last time. Currently all about this set https://www.amazon.com/aden-anais-Cotton-Swaddle-Blanket/dp/B00DJJ2PRK/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1460292239&sr=8-4&keywords=For+the+birds+swaddle

  • @MojieJo I never bought anything newborn sized for DS. I would definitely go with the 0-3 size. We received a few onesies from friends that were NB and he wore them for less than a month. Your situation may be different with twins, but I can say you'll get a lot more use out of the bigger-ranged sizes
  • @Shiva14 I LOVE that print. I'm obsessed with A+A swaddles and merchandise as well. They just keep getting softer with every wash! I wish I could find a more comparable and affordable brand, but in the meantime I'll try to find the sales

Agreed, did you see they make clothes now? I may just have to get a few sleepers, I bet they are so comfy.
  • @MojieJo I rarely buy anything full price.  Im always looking for sales and buying off of FaceBook B/S/T pages! Ive gotten alot of Zulily and Diapers.com bc they always have codes for 20% or 30% off. I went to a sample sale a few weeks ago and stocked up on N-3/6 for $5-15 each! It was heaven!  One of the things I love the most about KP is that they have a lot of stretch so sizes fit a lot longer than regular baby clothes. That for me helps warrant the high prices. For instance right now my son will be 2 in May, he's on the small side about 24lbs now, but can wear sizes 6-12 through 2T, depending on what style it is, so has been wearing some of the PJs for over a year. The footies run HUGE, the 2 piece sets runs small, the onsies have so much give they can be worn forever! But I would, and did, stock up more on 0-3 than N.

I only have boys so don't pay much attention to the girl clothes, but agreed its seems to be a lot of pink/purple.  But some of the prints are boyish in those colors and really cute like dinosaurs and guitars.  There is also a lot of gender neutral.

  • @RedMar That's what I was thinking.  I'm just unsure because they're most likely going to be smaller at birth.  I'm thinking we'll get a small number of cheap newborn size clothes, just to have them on hand.  I don't want to invest a lot of money in them since they'll be worn for so little time.

@izzetoot Thank you so much for the sizing info!  I noticed that the onesie I bought was much smaller than the coveralls/jumpsuits I picked up in the same size.  I'm guessing the sizing on the footies must be similar to the non-footed coveralls since they're definitely big for 0-3 months.

I appreciate the input!  I think I might just get a couple of things in NB since I don't want to spend a lot of money on things they'll outgrow quickly.

I had the same no pink attitude with my first. But other people didn't agree and we got a lot of hand me downs and gifts. After three girls, I have given up. The 4 yr okd and 2 yr old have decieed that pink is the best thing ever. They wear the pink clothes first, fight over who gets the pink cup/bowl/spoon/whatever, always choose pink. Even if the green one has twice as much of whatever it is, they'll choose pink. Drives me nuts and I can't wait until they have different favorites.
  • Also a huge believer in the A+A swaddle blankets - we had  really really good luck with swaddling our little man in them for a long time.. once he became an escape artist, we bought their swaddlers that have the snaps, they were amazing (for us and for my husband who's not as good of a swaddler as me (go me!), family members, etc)

Another big fan of A+A here! Our 5yo still brings them to daycare as her nap time blanket! I'll definitely have to get more, I know the ones we have won't be passed down. DD just loves them too much!
  • I love A+A blankets too. I like how they're lightweight enough to throw over the carseat or stroller and I don't have to worry about baby getting too hot. Although I have heard that the baby can get sunburnt through the blanket, so it's best not to use it as a sun block.
  • Clothes are my obsession. I love getting outfits for every holiday or occasion. I was definitely addicted to smocked clothing for a while, but DH had enough of it by the time DS was 18 months, but now I'm so excited to buy for a girl!

  • I wish there was cuter holiday specific clothes past the first year.  My son had his first Easter at 3 months and second at 15 months - the local stores (target, carters outlet, etc) didn't have any cutesy bunny clothes that didn't say "My first easter on it".. come on! I don't need "my second easter" but something really cute and obviously Easter would be nice even if not his first!
