Health and fitness check in- 4/7

Alright ladies. So I know that there's already a health and fitness forum, but frankly, I like you all better :) I wanted to start just a weekly check in thread on how post-baby fitness is going. I'm not a health nut or fitness coach or anything like that, but I've benefitted in the past by encouragement from other ladies! I'm hoping this will just be a fun, easy going thread to talk about goals, challenges and progress.

Lets start with some questions this week.

1) What are your long term health/fitness goals?
2) What are your goals for
this coming week?
3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness?

1) My long term goals are to: lose the rest of this baby weight (duh), establish a regular weekly exercise routine of some sort, regain strength that has been lost due to too much time spent on the couch watching Netflix. Establish a healthy and active lifestyle with my family to be a good example for my daughter.

2) This week, I hope to exercise at least 3 times. My biggest problem is getting my butt of the couch and getting started instead of just pinning workout routines on Pinterest. Now that i figured out my stroller, I'm hoping to get some 30 minute walks in.

3) My biggest challenges right now are finding the desire to exercise and the TIME to exercise (like all of us I'm sure). Also, I've been so discouraged at how out of shape I really am to actually want to exercise. But I need to realize that I have to start small. Another challenge for me: I freaking love food. I know I need to make better choices and not just count on breast feeding to melt the pounds away!

Can't wait to hear from you!

    1. My long term goals are to get back in actual good shape. I'm already back to pre baby weight and have a "healthy" BMI of 22. But, I'm desperately out of shape. My muscle tone is gone, my energy is low (which could be due to LO), but I have the best motivation in the world- the little baby boy that will inevitably become a rambunctious toddler that I'll have to chase. I also want to ensure he has a great example of a strong, loving woman. I'm active duty, so I also need to fit back into my uniform and not look fluffy

    Whoops- 2 and 3 didn't post!

    2. This week I'm hoping to get in 4 workouts, including 3 outdoor runs, 3 bodyweight strengthening sessions and 1 yoga video. I have 1 run and 1 strengthening session done.

    3. Right now my biggest challenge is that my LO has a wicked cold and he gave it to meon Tuesday.  It's hard to breathe and thus hard to even think about running. But my longer term challenge is that I'm terrified I'll screw up my milk supply by burning too many calories or something. I also struggle with people saying things along the line of "you're already skinny, you don't need to work out" which then makes me question my desire to get strong

That's awesome that you're already back down to a healthy BMI!! And also, thank you for your service to our country!

I was also concerned about milk supply so I did some research and found these articles from Kelly mom that were helpful

    https://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/lifestyle/mom-exercise/

    https://kellymom.com/nutrition/mothers-diet/mom-weightloss/

I dont think people understand that many worn are just naturally thin! Body shape doesn't necessarily represent how in shape someone is or isn't. You're doing what's best for you and to be an example to your child, which is very admirable.

Thanks for joining me on this thread!

    Thanks for starting this!

    1) What are your long term health/fitness goals?

I'd really like to be in good shape and set a good example for my daughter. I'm about 5lbs over my prepregnancy weight and would like to be about 10lbs lighter than I was before I got pregnant. Exercise also really helps my overall mood and helps me feel like I'm doing something for me.

    2) What are your goals for this coming week?

I want to work out at least every other day. I worked out daily until 38 weeks and then at least every other day until I had my daughter at 40w2d. I haven't been great about it since. I've been doing better this week--only skipped yesterday!

    3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness?

Absolutely time! I have a postnatal DVD that has 10 minute segments. One of them is a "mommy and me" workout that my daughter finally doesn't hate (she thinks the planks over her are hilarious now!). If I do it right after her first feeding, she's been content enough to hang out in the swing for one solo segment and then will do the "mommy and me" one after.

I also love food and wine. The wine/cocktails are less of a problem now that my tolerance is ridiculously low but I'm hungrier now than I ever was pregnant and have also not been making the best choices.  But there are so many tasty things to eat and with as crazy as the days are sometimes, I'm not really cooking much.

    1. Long term goals include getting back to my pre baby weight and losing the last little bit of pudge I'm still sporting in my midriff. I would also like to get back to my previous level in figure skating, I want my jumps and spins back. I know I will need another season to be competition ready but I would like to keep it to one season. I want to have a healthy outlook on body and life so I can be a positive example for my DD.

    2. I would like to make it to the rink at least once this week and make time for a yoga workout this week.

    3. Being away from DD. I started back at work and DD started daycare this week so all I want to do after I pick her up is snuggle until bedtime. Ice times at the rink aren't the most convenient either.

    1) What are your long term health/fitness goals?
Obviously to get back to my "happy" weight. Also to eat healthier as a family and be stronger(I'd like more muscle tone). I know it sounds vain but I'd like my thigh gap back

    2) What are your goals for
    this coming week?
I've been doing hot yoga 3-4 times a week for the past few weeks. I'm just 2 classes away from a free mat! Also I'd like to get out for more walks.

    3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness?
    a) the cold/snow doesn't make me want to haul both kids outside for a walk or even just to play
    b) it's hard to find time with a toddler and an infant for at home workouts
    c) I've been working out for 4 weeks and don't feel like I'm losing weight. Although I do feel stronger
    d) I love food so it's difficult for me to diet. Plus eating all my toddlers leftovers probably isn't the healthiest
    e) I'd rather sleep

    1) What are your long term health/fitness goals?

I would love to get back to how active and fit I was prior to my pregancy.  I was able to do yoga up until 39 weeks and walked until I gave birth at 40w4d, but I was used to doing Les Mills BodyPump and BodyCombat classes.  BodyCombat was a no-no for the entire pregnancy, and BodyPump was okay, but I couldn't handle it past the first trimester.

    2) What are your goals for this coming week?

I've been back to the gym for the past two weeks.  My LO is old enough to hang out in the gym's childcare facility, so it's been great to get back to a routine.  Plus, he has the chance to get used to other people taking care of him and to interact with other kids.  He's only 8 weeks, but I feel that starting him out young will make it easier in the long run.  I've been back to BodyPump twice...my goal is to up some of my weights next class.  For yoga, I want to get back to where I was with inversions.  Also, I want to continue walking with LO on days I don't go to the gym.  Weather here has been interesting lately, so it's been hit or miss on that :(

    3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness?

Well, I go back to work at the end of this month.  Since Easter, I feel like my life is somewhat back to normal...I've recovered, I'm able to do things/go places with LO, I'm working out regularly, my diet is better, etc.  I feel like I'm going to be going back to work so soon!  However, I am grateful that I am able to take a 10 week maternity leave.

    1) What are your long term health/fitness goals?
Be happy in my skin. While this year I have a reason I'm not happy with my body (left over baby weight), I'm not going to lie I feel like that every year especially this time of year when the weather is (supposed to be) changing. I dread bathing suits and shorts. I'd love to complete a race (I'd love to do a 10k but even just a 5k) as I have never done that, so I will try for that this year.

    2) What are your goals for
    this coming week?
Continue the 30 day shred workouts. I've been doing them for about 3 weeks but nothing too strenuous and regular. In that time I've had the stomach bug and also have a toddler so its been difficult to find the time to do this for myself. So far this week I've done it 4x! I've been able to sneak a workout in while both kiddos were napping (hooray!).

    3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness?
Time and motivation! I'm like most others with not enough time in the day and also lack of motivation. I'm not sure how to keep motivation in those hard times, not feel guilty spending the time on myself, and instead force myself to just do it.  I feel so much better (physically, mentally, emotionally) after a workout, I wish I could remember that on those hard days.

    1) What are your long term health/fitness goals?

    - To be able to run 10k again by the end of the year. I have the couch to 5k and 5k to 10k apps to build up.
    - Ideally I'd like to drop 20 lbs or so. I'm now fitting into my pre-pregnancy stuff and think I'm around my pre-pregnancy weight, but flabby belly is flabby and unattractive, even though most of my jeans are falling off me somehow. Maybe my belly is pushing them down?? Anyway, I was pleasantly plump to begin with, so dropping 20 was already something I was interested in before.

    2) What are your goals for
    this coming week?

Get out and walk with baby every day. I'm 5 weeks pp and not cleared to work outomorrow yet, but I'm trying to get out and about daily. Unless the weather really sucks.

    3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness?

Right now I'm worried about being cleared to work out. I had some severe tearing, and I can tell things aren't back to normal yet. I mean, I'm mobile and feel great in general, but I get dull pain if I walk too far, for example. I want to run, NOW, but realistically I think I'll need more than the 6 weeks pp for that.

Also, my eating is and pretty much always has been out of control. I do not have the ideal diet, and frankly...I don't know if I feel up to changing that.

    1) What are your long term health/fitness goals? My long term goal is just to be healthy. To feel good everyday and have the upmost energy. To be extremely active.
    2) What are your goals for
this coming week? To start working out. I have never worked out. I've attempted lol. I just had my fourth baby and I've been at my pre-pregnancy weight for a while but I would love to work out to get toned.
    3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness? I have a hard time getting into it and staying with it. I have four children and my husband works crazy shifts so I would have to work out at home and figure out on my own how to get this body going. Also I'm a big fast food person. I can't help but also want something greasy.

    1. I want to lose 25 pounds.  Get back to 130 pounds.  I'm 155 and that was my pre-preg weight and I'm happy with that, but especially now that I know I won't be having more kids, it's really important for me to get into shape.

    2. Go to the gym 3 times a week is my goal, but I think I'm only going to make it twice this week.  I just joined my gym on Monday though so I'm not too concerned.  Just getting back into it!

    3. Just getting back into it after my pregnancy.  I'm 8 weeks pp and I had surgery so I'm still a bit tender.  I think the more I work out though the better I'm going to feel!

    1) lose weight and get in better shape so I can have more energy and feel more confident. I have battled with body image issues most of my life (even when I was thin!), and I really want to feel better about myself. I have 30lb to lose to be at a more comfortable weight, but just feeling better is more important than the number.

    2) going for long walks and probably ordering that Jillian Michaels DVD. My back has been killing me, though, so we'll see how the walks go. My goal is also to be more diligent about eating breakfast and lunch.

    3) my biggest challenge is food choices. I don't keep much in the way of junk in our house, but I'm bad about eating meals because I'm busy, which results in me eating a ton of snacks that leave me unsatisfied and still hungry. I need to figure out some quick one-handed meal choices.

    1) What are your long term health/fitness goals? Prepregnancy weight, practicing yoga regularly again, walking dog often (seriously doubt it could ever be every day again), running regularly. Feeling good during exercise! Short term goal- to loose 10 lbs in 1 mo for wedding I am in!! Yikes.
    2) What are your goals for
this coming week? Try yoga video at home, go back to a challenging yoga class, power walk dog through neighborhood 3-4x
    3) What are your biggest challenges/frustrations in regards to health and fitness? Since I did IVF to get pregnant I had to give up rigerous exercise from there first day of our treatment. My pregnancy was all light exercise - walking and prenatal yoga-so I feel REALLY out of shape!!  I feel like I have a huge mountain to climb just to get jump started exercising like I used to. Time- finding time to do it especially once I go back to work.

I love hearing everyone's stories! Even though we all have different ones, it seems like our goals are similar. Let's accomplish those weekly goals! I also might start a weekly "challenge" or activity for everyone to try to do before the next weeks check in.

This week: Snap a pic of a yummy and healthy meal or snack you have this week and be ready to share with everyone next week. I love getting new meal/snack ideas!
