Weekly Check-in 4/4

How was your week? (or two)

QOTW: Let's talk about feeding LO's. Pick an age and tell us what your LO's favorite thing to eat was/is at that time.  Any tips for developing good eating habits?

Re: Weekly Check-in 4/4

  • We've been good. Easter was pretty quiet, just the little guy and me. He is 10 months and This last month has been huge, developmentally. He had a nice growth spurt... no official measurement, but based on pictures, he looks to have grown about an inch in just a month. He's mastered crawling, and wanting to go everywhere and get into everything. Top teeth have come in. We're dealing with some pretty bad excema and will be going to a specialist next week, after not getting much guidance from our Ped.

Because of the excema and our concern that there might be food sensitivities involved, we've back tracked on feeding, limiting foods instead of increasing them, which feels frustrating, like we're delaying his development.

  • You're not delaying his development with regard to food IMO. Our little one started eating puréed fruits & veggies at 6 mos. Moved to Unsmashed bananas sometime before 12 mos.  We started eating more foods at 12 months. Weaned from bottle starting at 12 mos complete at 13 mos. Toddler is a great eater now. At nearly 2 has started having opinions on food. Up til now anything and everything was eaten.

I don't know if you believe in "the blood type diet" but I very loosely follow it. As a kid I hated meat, especially beef. My mom would force it down me. According to that diet I shouldn't really eat meat. There are some fishes and turkey that are good. I can tolerate chicken. But before I even heard about that diet I'd become a vegetarian that eats fish. I'm not adding back meat because the book says I should. So this just teaches me to listen to my child. It's not my birth child but LO isn't loving meats. So I offer and if any gets eaten fine. Other proteins are preferred like eggs and sometimes peanut butter.

I bet you're onto something with that eczema. Can you try cutting out grains and see if it clears up. If not, an hour long warm bath a day is what my friend with full body eczema was "prescribed". It's now manageable.

  • Sorry to hear about the eczema, @mindaa.

We had a good week.  Had my bridal shower Saturday.  Dad brought Chloe about an hour in and then it wasn't about me anymore, lol.  I am cool with that though.

Chlos is nine months, and she has done really well with eating.  There isn't too much she won't eat.  She doesn't like eggs, really, but I think that will change over time.  We haven't introduced meats yet.  I'm a vegetarian so I'm not sure how I want to handle that.  She loves yogurt and fruit.  :)

  • @Knottie1442268460 - How is the move going? Yikes, what a tough choice regarding the 3rd sibling. Thanks for the feeding reassurance -So hard not to compare!

@jerseygirl227 - how is your daycare situation?

So we got confirmation of continued milk sensitivity, but optimism that it will still heal and LO won't be stuck with a lifetime of food issues. We got some supplements to help the process and since I've been completely off dairy for a week, it's clearing up, yay!
We also got a bunch of allergy testing done that will be useful in the future - confirmation that he's not allergic to things like soy, cats or nuts. And we even have an epi-pen prescription, so we have something to keep on hand in the event of something like a bee-sting surprise.

  • @mindaa ... still on the wait list at the church.  Been almost a year!  I called last week and no one returned my call yet.  I also called two months ago, and that call went unreturned as well.  I'm getting kinda ticked off.  I don't want to be a pain (cause I'm a teacher, and I know what a pain parents can be, lol), but I want to make sure we are still on the list and all.

Glad to hear the allergies aren't too bad.  My SIL just learned her LO is allergic to all beans, wheat, corn, eggs, peaches, mushrooms, and a bunch of other things.  Very sad and difficult to do deal with.

  • I'm glad you figured out the allergy & its clearing up.

Well I got sick on the way home from our most recent trip. I was better yesterday. Ran to Costco for new towels! Some "me time" which was required homework for an FASD class I'm taking. :) So today I felt worse after a full day. All our clothes are still folded in random bins throughout the house but at least the laundry is done.  Most things are unpacked but I dont feel settled. With 2 floors now I'm going to create a changing station on both. Not done though. Thanks for asking.

Still need 2 more permanent gates. Also ordered a couple potty chairs on Amazon to test out. He hates the summer infant cheapie. I'm sick of Amazon. They wouldn't ship to me certain items free. Then I had friend put on her prime acct & they're getting shipped free! Odd.

Met with the CW recently. Said mom is looking thin & drugged out. So she may not be preggo and trying to get our kids dad jealous. I think she's with someone new. Just don't know. The question of if its a full sib put that to rest in my mind. They have each other. We planned on one. Well, after the plan for none went out the window. ;) So I think we'll be a happy little family.

We may be open to taking future sibs. I'd like these 2 to get in school first & find out how bad their learning issues are. I know I'm going to want babies again later. ;) I get suckered in just like people with puppies.

DH is having a hard time grieving that these kids have FASD. My biggest fear with alcohol was behavior issues. And I feel that they don't have unmanageable behaviors. Because we provide structure & security. So that fear is gone. They can be successful. They may need support but it doesn't seem so far they have MAJOR damage. Drinking more less often is preferable. Less days of damage. Seems odd doesn't it?!
