So very tired!

How are you all keeping your energy up. I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open at work! I do home health therapy so I'm driving all day, which makes me more tired. It's terrible.

Re: So very tired!

  • No advice. I am currently a SAHM, but last time around, I was a second grade teacher. It was exhausting. Just try to get as much rest as possible after work. I used to take naps when I would get home. And then I'd go to bed super early. Good thing second trimester is just around the corner - I promise you will get all that energy back!

  • It's strange, with our 1st I was consistently tired.  I'd be OK during the day and then would crash around the same time every single night (by 9pm) for pretty much the entire 1st tri.  This time I have days when I'm "ok" but then it hits me like a brick and I am done!  For example yesterday I was SO tired.  I laid down to take a nap and literally laid in the bed for 3 hours and had to have DH peel me off our mattress.  It's hit or miss but when it hits, it hits!

  • I schedule naps as often as I can manage it. Even a short nap helps. Otherwise, I save my daily caffeine for the afternoon to get me through because otherwise I'll actually fall asleep in the middle of what I'm doing.

It does get better after the first trimester, for a while anyway.

  • I remember being super tired first tri last time and I would take lots of naps especially on the wknds. This time around I am definitely more tired than usual but I just don't have time for naps. :-( But thankfully I don't think I'm as tired this time around as I was with my first pregnancy. I wonder if that's b/c my body has become somewhat accustomed to being tired and I can just manage it better.

As the other ladies mentioned it definitely gets much better in the second tri! Just a few more weeks!

  • I was able to close my eyes for 10 min or so before going into my patients house, it helped a little. I wish coffee sounded good at all! I've given up caffiene completely but would drink a little to stay sharp.

This.  I don't have time to be tired with a toddler.  You just push through.  And pregnancy tired is nothing like newborn tired.

Just rest when you can and try to drink water and eat healthy.  Also, sounds counter-intuitive but going for a walk or doing some light exercising might help with your energy levels!

I currently am dealing with insomnia and have been up more or less since 4am.  You just keep on swimming.

  • The only thing that is helping me is snacking on a variety of cold fruits, and sucking on ice cubes. It helps perk me up for a little bit.  I would love a triple shot white mocha latte, but I hear that's a big no-no for us baby makers. ha.

I just heard that squeezing lemons into water is supposed to help with fatigue. It's worth a shot!
  • All I can say is that I hope our children nap as well as my husband and I do!  :D  I've never been much of a napper until now. I do have trouble sleeping through the night, but that's always been an issue for me. I try to take little 15-20 minute walks on my lunch break to help with energy, but there are definitely days when it just isn't happening! This is our our first, so I can't imagine having other kiddos to take care of right now.
  • Yesterday I was definitely "keeping on swimming" when both kids were home and climbing all over me. Going for a walk really did help.

I AM CRAVING MY COFFEE... but I decided no caffeine since I am also Epileptic and the combo would be a triple no no. I am tired, tired, tired all day... I am about to take a lunch time nap. I am going to give the lemon thing a shot and hope it works... I too am doing the cold fruit and my sister told be about the ice cubes. Two new things to try and help with this tired feeling.
