IPS results

Hi all this is my first post because I couldn't quite figure it out until now. And I apologize this is going to be a long one. So I'm 35 and pregnant with our second. Our first was born at 29 weeks due to vasa Previa with velamentious cord insertion and going into labor. Now 4 years later we are having another. Everything was going great all ultrasounds normal. Last week I got the IPS results with a 1 in 35 chance of down syndrome. The markers are high beta and low estrdiol. Nuchal translucency is normal at 1.4mm. I went and had the NIPT test last Thursday and am scheduled for genetics on wednesday coming. We're devastated. Scared. Everything you can think of. Now I have just thought of something. How important are dates when  it comes to IPS. my dates were off by 4 days. I'm grasping at straws maybe but... does anyone know about how the test works.

Re: IPS results

  • I don't know much about IPS, but from what I read it just gives you a chance.  It isn't confirmed.  I would wait for all the test  to come back before, be able there is a chance that you just were elevated risk and not confirmed diagnosis.  Sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers all is ok.

  • Dates do matter when they do the blood calculations. You thickness is really low so that's good.

  • I dot know anything about these tests, but if you had your anomaly scan, wouldn't ds be evident in those measurments? My NP went over my results with me and pointed out the ds indicators and said those measurments were normal. A high school friend of mine was in her teens when she had her first, and they found out her son had ds at the 20 week ultrasound, and then more testing to confirm. If I were you, I'd avoid freaking out for now. If your scan results were ok, just wait for them to finish with the results. I know it can't be easy, but I've heard, even from one of the nurses at my ob, that many of those types of tests just worry parents bc of results like this. More often than not the baby is just fine. Increased chances do not necessarily mean anything is actually wrong.
