Leg stuck through crib

Does anyone have suggestions on how to prevent baby from being able to get leg stuck in crib slats?  2 times last night baby woke up crying, and when I got in his room his leg was wedged between slats at his thigh.  It was difficult for me to get it out, and I'm worried that if it happens and I don't catch it fast enough it will affect his blood supply to his leg.  I know bumpers are controversial, and I'm afraid the mesh won't stop this if his leg raises higher than the bumper.

  • I use the mesh bumpers but LO is a big kicker. We put him down awake and he always rolls around, talks to his lovey, and kicks the sides of the cribs before falling asleep. The bumpers prevent him from getting stuck but he can get his legs higher than them. He kicks and then rests his feet on the top of he bumper so his feet stick through the slats but his legs aren't long enough to get them through any farther to where they'd get stuck.
  • I had this problem in December when LO started rolling over in all directions. Quick target run for white mesh bumpers and problem is forever solved!!!!!
  • Little man kept doing that and it kept waking him at night so we bought mesh bumpers. One of the best purchases we have made
  • I've got mesh bumpers and they work like a dream. I didn't get any bumpers until we started having this issue. It was freaking me out because he would stick his leg through then try to roll over. Anyway, the mesh ones are sturdy and secure.

  • Thanks ladies!  I didn't use bumpers with my other kids, and don't remember this issue, but am planning on making a run!  @hmburchell  your home made bumpers are super cute, but I'm not crafty...  Lol
  • What about putting him in a sleeping bag at night? That way he couldn't get his legs through the slats!

My LO actually got his leg stuck while wearing a sleep sack! LOL talent! Also, if I put him in his crib for 1 minute so I could wash my hands after diaper change, 1 SECOND is all it took for him to be stuck. Ugh.

Oh darn! I came here this morning because I was going to sleep last night and looking at my son in his crib (he's in our bedroom) and suddenly thought, "A wearable blanket would work! I have to respond!" But yeah, may not work for all babies.
  • I agree, a mesh bumper will work! I always said no bumpers because I hate the look of it and for safety reasons. But when LO got his leg stuck one day during a nap then I made a Target run for a mesh bumper.
  • I had gotten bumpers I had registered for that matched the crib set, but when I went to put them in the directions said they couldn't be properly secured because our crib design has multiple wide slats, so we returned them. Do mesh bumpers work with the multiple wide slats? Or should I make my own? I've got one of those babies that gets his legs stuck while wearing a sleep sack.
