This!! And within moderation. I was craving a spicy tuna roll the other day, thanks to all you ladies and what you're going to enjoy most when you're no longer pregnant. So i split a roll with my husband and had 3 pieces and the reat was california rolls and edamame. I honestly believe if you want it, have it. But dont go crazy and depleat the ecosystem.

I have eaten sushi in this pregnancy. I just go to a sushi place that is clean and always asked for the cooked ones that I can eat. I love sushi im craving it right now!!
I eat sushi and stick to the cooked kinds. That's mostly because many things have tasted off to me this pregnancy and I'm not buying good sushi just to have it taste bad. I have a place I go where they're very nice and they seem very clean and conscientious so I go for it. Let's be real, they're probably more careful than I am in my kitchen at home and I haven't killed me yet. Also, the idea that McDonald's cheeseburgers (which was a serious craving I had once this pregnancy) are on the "approved" list but clean, well prepared sushi, particularly the cooked rolls, are too dangerous to pregnant women makes me give the whole system of determining what pregnant can eat serious side eye.
I was surprised when the dietician I saw for GD said no sushi at all. I feel like the recent research has shown that sushi prepared in clean kitchens are perfectly fine. And women in countries where sushi is regularly eaten eat it throughout their pregnancies with no problem. Somewhere I had also read that the fish we typically eat in sushi rolls here in the US are flash frozen before being sold which helps protect them from growing listeria. I'm not going to eat gas station sushi or sushi that has been sitting out, and I prefer cooked rolls right now for taste, but I still plan on eating sushi. Hoping I can try a roll this weekend and that it won't rock my blood sugar levels too much!
My doctor told me as long as you stick to cooked rolls and a clean place it would be fine. I actually love the veggie roll (cucumber, carrots, rice and seaweed) and the eel roll. It cures my cravings. Not going to lie when this baby comes out and I have a milk stash my ass is going for sushi and a med rare steak with a nice glass of wine!!!!
With GD, wouldn't it be the rice that's a concern? No experience with GD here, so maybe I'm way off base, but I could see that they would want you to avoid sushi rice since it's starchy and cooked with added sugar.

With GD, the problem with sushi is that the rice is made with mirin to make it sticky. So you have the rice carbs and the sugar carbs from the mirin. That makes it really high in sugars. One small roll affected my numbers more than a couple of Christmas cookies with Christmas dinner did.
Yes, the sushi might really screw my GD numbers. And that would really suck. The GD diet bums me out because even when eating in moderation and healthy foods, I can never be sure what is going to screw my numbers up. I was hoping lots of water and a nice long walk after might balance out the carbs and sugars from the sushi. We shall see.
I already told H that after kiddo is born I want to go to this great sushi restaurant I went to recently. It's super authentic and I felt like such a noob ordering fried rolls while sitting at the bar by myself watching everyone else eat sashimi delicacies.

I love that you just said noob. And if it's close to where you're giving birth, just have your husband pick up take out!
Re: Sushi craving
There could be cross contamination with some raw fish at the restaurant. So make sure it's clean.

I have eaten sushi this pregnancy (the raw stuff and cooked). I try not to eat too much tuna because of the mercury, but other than that I go for it. Only from places I know are clean, and not the grocery store stuff. Now I want sushi.
