Take Home Outfit

Since finding out we are having a boy (and I have a girl). I've started thinking about a take home outfit. It has really gotten me excited for a baby and is making it feel real. It can be really hot in August (in Massachusetts) or it can be the end of summer soon and fall starting.

With my DD I had a NB carters two piece button outfit, with hands and feet covered and a hat. We lived in Florida and this was April, so nice and warm, but AC everywhere.  She was a 5lb preemie, so I would probably have a NB size again for my second.

What at are you thinking about? Feel free to share your pics!

  • I may use the same outfit that we used for DS but it may be too warm. He was due mid sept so we had a long sleeve onsie, pants and a hat. We still used it because it was cute but we took the pants off as soon as we were home.

    If we knew what we were having I'd do the big brother /little sibling but we're team green again.

    @telicious2 I love that!!

    Im going to need 4 potential outfits or 2 real gender neutral ones since we are team green with the twins.
    We just went gender neutral last time. It's easy, there are so many cute onsies out there!
  • We'll just do a cute onesie and some pants. going to buy some for girl and some for boy closer to due date so we know they're returnable. Team green makes things a bit more difficult!

    Love this thread. I had something similar to @telicious2 picked out for a girl but we are having a boy! I feel like boy clothes aren't nearly as cute.
  • @telicious2 I'm on the South Coast near Fall River, where are you?

    we don't have AC in our house so it definitely could be hot hot hot! I love babies all snuggled up. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
  • This thread makes me feel extremely unprepared. I haven't thought about take home outfit once. Probably something that says little brother and short sleeve for sure, my c section will be scheduled for the beginning of August so it will be HOT here.
  • Aw, @Lynnlove28, it's just something silly to think about and be excited for.

    With my DD she wore hospital clothes until the morning we went home.

    For DS, we had a onesie that said "I just did 9 months on the inside". He ended up just staying in the gray sleeper he'd been in because we were so anxious to leave the hospital. DS was slightly jaundiced and we weren't sure if we were going to be able to take him home. Needless to say, we just wanted to get him in his car seat and leave.

    This time, right after I found out I was pregnant, I bought a sleeper that says "Welcome Home" and she might just come home in that. I'm not big on going home outfits.

  • I've been looking, but nothing has really struck my fancy yet. I'm thinking a onesie, pants, and maybe a light jacket/hoodie, or something like that. I actually bought an outfit from Carter's and it is a long sleeve onesie, with pants, and a little fleece vest. I just don't know if I love it enough to make it our coming home outfit. My other 2 boys were winter babies (November and January) so they just came home in sleepers. Living in PA, who knows what the temps are going to be like Mid August, probably still warm enough for short sleeves outside, but in the car and house, hospital etc. it'll probably be a bit cool because of the air conditioning. I thought I was the only one who stressed about these things. LOL
  • @no more Miss! What part of Massachusetts are you in? I live there too!

    I gave birth in a polar vortex last time and brought our DD home on Christmas day so she was clad in green and red.  Needless to say, we will not be recycling that for her take home outfit. @bookhousegirl, I think that I am going to check out Janie and Jack as well or Mini Bowden.  We will definitely be recycling a lot of her clothes but this outfit should be her very own.

    P.S. I am also thinking that I have to think about what I dress my DD in for the hospital pictures.  I don't want them to be matchie matchie but I do what her to look nice too.

  • Also, secret shame - I bought it in three sizes. My husband was 24 inches at birth, so he never did fit into "newborn" things.

  • No going home outfit ideas yet, but my mom got this adorable blanket and matching straps for the car seat. We are doing a woodland theme nursery. I doubt we will need the blanket in August, but people here tend to crank up the AC.
    @DressageDarling I think you need this!

  • @Katienu Southeastern Mass, south coast near Fall River. How about you?
  • The baby pics are adorable :-)

    Not sure yet. With DS we did a body suit, pair of pants, socks, hat, and mittens with a blanket over him. That was in January in Florida, so I'm thinking in August max the same thing but with lighter fabrics.

  • We had an adorable layette outfit from Janie and Jack for DS. It was super soft and cozy. I'd like to get something similar this time around. It's not something I would typically be sentimental about, but there was something really special about it to me, and I want to do the same for DS2. We may pick a lighter fabric this time because it's summer but I'll still do long sleeves since everything will be air conditioned.
    @Bookhousegirl Cutest lil thumb sucker!

  • @texasmama2014 - I was going to be the buzz kill if you hadn't beat me to it.  So many people don't know the recommendations. Better to be safe and say something.
  • telicious2 I grew up just outside of Worcester!

    Love the Mass connection

    Just a word of caution- you are not supposed to use anything on the car seat that didn't come with it (i.e. strap covers) due to the function of the seat and flammability. "Car Seats of the Littles" Facebook group has all kinds of info on it if you're interested... Buzz kill, and being that mom, but yeah...
    Well dang it! Why in the heck do they sell them then? The fox has a rattle inside, I suppose it could easily be strapped to the handle for entertaining purposes.

  • @texasmama2014I am the same way about car seat safety.  We are in the process of buying my dh a car and we have been limited in what we can look at because I refuse to turn my dd around. If she is anywhere close to the same size as I was growing up then she will be rear facing until she's like 10.
  • Seriously my heart just melted. This photo is too precious!!! @Bookhousegirl

    You can use them for a stroller or on your highchair or bouncy seat or anything that has straps!
  • @michelle_shelle Where did you find this one? I've been searching for one that says "Worth the Wait", but the only one I've liked so far is long-sleeved only, which just won't work in South Louisiana's August!

  • @telicious2 , @AliKay20 thank you! I love looking back at newborn photos, it makes me excited to have a teeny little munchkin again! The funny thing is, he never sucked his thumb after 3/4 days post birth, but he does love his pacifier.
