Sex after baby

I was cut and had to have the forceps(i call them salad tongs) to bring my baby into the world (can't remember the word for it) how long after is it safe to have sex? My man and I haven't had sex in 10months due to living far apart for most of my pregnancy and I know he's getting anxious even though he won't actually admit it to me. My little boy was born on the 11th of March.

I was told 6 weeks and I had about the same experience.

I had a second degree tear with my first and to tell you the truth even 8 weeks weren't enough

I was told nothing inserted into the vagina for at least 6 weeks

As PPs said, 6 weeks. When I had my first I personally wasn't ready for about 12 weeks though! After shoving a watermelon out I certainly was not ready to let anything else near that area!

You could always do him some *ahem* favors in the meantime

i also had a forceps delivery & ended up with a 2nd degree tear. I'm not going anywhere near sex for at least the 6 week period. potentially longer if need be. 

you guys can always do other things in the bedroom until you're healed up enough to have sex again. the wait sucks, but it's better to wait until you're fully healed than jump the gun & cause more damage.

I had 2nd degree episiotomy. It healed really quick and we had sex 3 weeks pp. DONT. it was so dumb. The bleeding had stopped but since then has started up again and seems to be relentless, and it was more achy down there for about a week after, even though i had been feeling fine previously. I missed being intimate with DH, as we only had sex a few times during my pregnancy, but it wasnt worth the setback to my healing, and now i will likely have to wait even longer to have sex.

4-6 weeks normally but get checked by a doctor first

Not to mention your uterus has an open wound that is healing internally (where your placenta detached) so you could cause infection if you have sex before you allow it to fully heal.

6 weeks is really the bare minimum. With my daughter, my OB did not clear me for sex after my 6 week appointment, so be prepared for that possibility too. It took four months for my stitches to heal entirely, my body didn't recover until I stopped breastfeeding.

With my first I had a 2nd degree tear. It was probably about 4 months though until sex was somewhat bearable. I have a tear again this time and just the thought of sex makes me wince.

My discharge instructions with both babies have been to recommend waiting 4-6 weeks, but that it's okay to resume intimacy when the bright red bleeding has stopped and you feel ready. With DS1 we waited three weeks, and it was fine - we went slow and used lube. Your doctor may have a different recommendation, especially given the nature of your episiotomy and the use of forceps. Call and ask.

My doctor cleared me at a little over 4 weeks (I'm moving so I had my appointment early). I only had one small tear and one stitch and have felt completely normal since the first week so I figured I'd be fine....

Nope. No thank you, I'm waiting until I can't think of any more excuses not to.

DH and I were intimate this afternoon- I am 4 weeks post partum.  All for him- nothing to violate pelvic rest (hell no!).  But I was aroused and I wonder if that was the cause of the bright red bleeding that I saw when I went to the bathroom after?!  My doc just checked my sutures yesterday and said everything looked good.  I couldn't have done anything to interfere with them today could I?
