I'm not into making a fancy nursery. I get why people do it, but it's not for me. My babies live in my room for a few months anyways and I'm a minimalist. I'll let him choose his sheets when he's a toddler. Just NMS.
This may be controversial but I feel like the Kardashians have set women back 20 years...especially as I see my 12 year old niece become obsessed with them. It scares me.
I love the idea of having a nicely decorated house but don't actually have the time/energy to put into it.
My UO is partially stolen from July '16. I'm a picky eater and I can't stand when people feel like they need to "introduce me to new foods". I normally will try anything once and if I don't like it I won't try it again. When I'm pregnant I stick to what I know and enjoy my food instead of trying a bunch of different things and potientally not liking my dinner. Don't force food down my throat, I know my taste buds.
I find greeting cards to be unnecessary most of the time. I love when they have a real note inside but if you're just signing your name, it seems like a waste of money. This mainly stems from the fact that my MIL will literally give 2-3 cards to accompany a gift or for holidays and all she'll do is sign her name to them. She must spend $20 per person just on cards!
@Bookhousegirl going along with that I will never understand why everyone who came to DDs first birthday party bought her a birthday card. I guess it's just a nice thing to do but she can't read, I can't throw them away because I would feel bad but no one wrote anything in them, just signed their name. Also greeting cards are getting super expensive, I only buy them if I'm giving money.

At my niece's second and third birthday parties, in addition to a painfully slow process of watching her unwrap an obscene mountain of gifts, my SIL read each greeting card aloud!! Like "To a very special girl on her very special day...." And we all had to sit there and either chuckle or go "aaawwww" at the sentiments in each card. And because Target is the main store in their town and everyone shops there, there were some repeat cards (and gifts).
I don't get spending a lot of money on kids clothes. I mean, I get that they look adorable when they are all dressed up and accessorized, but it's just such a waste of money. I'm not judging people who do it because it's their money and all, I just can't wrap my mind around doing it on a regular basis.
My UO is that i hate clutter! Going into people's houses where they have a bunch of stuff they're going to use "someday" stresses me out. I declutter regularly especially now that i have kids.
Eta: the show hoarders physically stresses me out. I start throwing stuff away every time i watch it.
@Pepper6 we get a lot of DDs clothes from Walmart and target on those tables that have al those tee shirts and shorts/leggings. I will shop at carters and Oshkosh when they have sales because they normally have some pretty awesome door busters. They outgrow clothes so fast and get them SO dirty that I refuse to spend a ton on clothes anymore. As a FTM with DD I didn't understand that concept. Although I buy her cute, going out outfits at marshals, tj maxx, and Ross because I can't resist a good deal.

Yup, almost all of DD's new clothes are Garanimals from Walmart...$3.88 a piece. I also shop the kids consignment stores when I get the chance. Spending more than $10 on an outfit makes me itchy. But I'm also super cheap with my own clothes and shop a lot at Ross. I like variety and would rather have quantity over quality. LOL.
I also hate cards and I hate when people have to read them in front of everyone. I was made to do this as a child and my sister makes my niece read them all out loud at her birthday parties. It's annoying, takes forever and it makes her uncomfortable with everyone staring at her. Just let her open her damn toys.
I can't remember if it was this board or not where we already discussed this, but in relation to the card thing...I hate thank you cards. I hate sending them and often forget. I dislike receiving them. I'd rather have a verbal 'thank you' at whatever gift giving event it is. No matter how personal the message, they just always feel forced.
I do not believe 99% of the people on that show "I didn't know I was pregnant". I am on my 4th pregnancy and I cannot imagine never knowing through 9 whole months that I was pregnant. If you are having sex, there is always a chance you could be pregnant.
@jamiesc58 Happened to my hair dresser! She found out at 7 months. She is in her late 30's, had been told 16 years ago when she first got married it wasn't possible for her to conceive, she'd have to do IUI and fertility drugs to MAYBE get a sticky bean. She and her husband were disappointed, but didn't have the money to do anything about it, so moved on with their lives.
She is a rather... large woman, and said she felt a little sick off and on, but nothing more than a tummy bug could account for (and turned out her first trimester fell during flu season.) She went to the doctor because she had gained 10 pounds within two months, when she HAD been steadily loosing weight by with eating well, and was trying to slim down for gastric by pass - turns out the "problem" was a miracle baby, due in two months! Six weeks later she had a little girl.
She even made a comment about how she always thought that show was ridiculous until she was sitting in the doctor's office like "wait... I'm what? And due WHEN?"
@jamiesc58 I think the same thing whenever I watch that show! All of the symptoms (nausea, fatigue, weight gain, backache, etc.) aside, how do they not FEEL the baby move!? I'm 21 weeks and currently feeling my baby move CONSTANTLY, and I'm only halfway through! How do they get to the point of having a 6 pound baby moving in their belly and not notice? It just really baffles me. lol

Oh, my UO for the day (work related): People who need an inordinate amount of information/data in order to make a decision really bug me. You end up spending WAY too much time and put yourself into "analysis paralysis" when you could've already implemented or tried something. Don't get me wrong - I love data - but I'm able to look briefly at the high level analysis and just make a decision. I don't need to spend 8 hours diving into every minute detail. It's such a waste of time.

I also hate cards, total waste of money. My little sister's bday was last weekend and I literally gave her cash in an envelope without a card. Everyone in my family knows I won't wast the money to just sign my name, unless its a big party and I can't make sure they know its from me.
My UO: going with the food theme! I hate when people act like they need to baby you because your pregnant. I know some people like the extra attention but I do not.
For example, I do not need you to tell me to eat. I am an adult and will get up and get food when I want it. At Easter my ILs kept trying to force me to eat appetizers. They make a 5 course meal plus we had to go to my family's afterwards and eat again. So I wasn't going to fill up on appetizers, they kept bugging me so I got 3 things. Ate them. Then they yell at me to eat again! I nicely said I did and nudge my plate. They go your plate is empty. Because I f*cking ate it already!!!! I ate, leave me alone!
They also think I should eat like 5 portions because I'm pregnant...sorry for the rant.
I 100% agree with the bolded. If you're lucky enough to have a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy, there's no reason to act like you have an illness. You can do pretty much everything you did before you pregnant. My example: I coach volleyball for a group of 13-year-old girls. Their moms have this weird belief that the ball bag is too heavy for me to carry and demand that one of their daughters carries it around for me at tournaments. A bag. Full of volleyballs. It maybe weighs 5 lbs. The last time they did this I had to bite my tongue not to tell them I had back squatted 120 lbs the day before, I think I can manage the ball bag, thanks.
I love getting cards from my husband but, they better have a long ass love letter written in it about how awesome I am or else just save your money.
When we were broke college students we would go to target together and pick out a funny card and a sweet card then give them to the other person to read, then put them back and say well that was 20 bucks well saved (high five!) hah
I can't stand those people that block the middle lane (not a turn lane) just to cut in front of all the cars that are in the left lane to turn. Where are the cops when there are obvious law breakers esp. during morning rush hour?! SELFISH PRICKS
I guess with this group my UO is that I like cards. If my SO doesn't get me a gift that's fine as long as he read a few cards and put some thought into it picking one out. The words sometimes mean more than a random thoughtless gift like a gift card. I also like writing messages in cards and enjoy sending thank you notes. I also enjoy sending out and addressing Christmas cards!
My UO is that I don't give a flying #$*% about Jamberry and how it is so much better for your nails or that you can do it in the comfort of your own home or blah blah blah. 1. Don't do my nails that often for it to even matter and when I do I just want a solid color, not some crazy print. 2. I go to a salon and pay the extra prices when I DO have my nails done just for the benefit of not having to do my own nails. Stop inviting me to your parties.
Re: Uo 3/31
After yesterday's pizza posts I realized my UO is that I hate ranch dressing. Ranch on anything--yuck.
