@clw617 I had a planned c-section with DS. How mine worked was I checked into the hospital 2 hours early. They took some blood and started me on IV fluids. They wheeled me to the OR at the scheduled time (or 5 min after). The first thing they did was the epidural. Then they laid me down for a few minutes to let it kick in and began to check if it was effective. Then catheter. Then baby! It was about 30 minutes from the time I went into the OR and DS was out. I was allowed to have him lay on my chest while they stitched me up (I think this is based on your hospital policies, mine is really big on skin to skin asap). After DS was out, I have no idea how long it was to finish up in OR but I was just so surprised with how soft his skin was lol. Good luck!
@clw617 I was in the OR when they sat me up for the epidural. They laid me down, inserted a catheter, and checked to make sure the meds were working. It literally took 3 minutes from that point to get dd out. My husband was allowed in after they knew the meds were working and I was already open. I was out of the OR 30 minutes after going in. @knottie2891384 I was given a list of foods to enjoy and foods to avoid. Basically based on gas, the less gassy food the better!
My main complaint about my c/s was constipation. I only had to take pain meds half of the time in the hospital and only took regular Tylenol at night when I came home. Aside from pooping, my c/s recovery was a breeze compared to my first VBAC recovery.
Yep. The pain the first few days is definitely uncomfortable, but was manageable. I never anticipated the constipation to be so bad, even with getting stool softeners in the hospital. That first BM after the c-section is a doozy.
Had my c-section on Thursday at 5:30PM and we were discharged on Saturday by 4PM. Looking back we probably should have stayed another day but it turned out fine.
@WiseUsagi did they give you the option to stay longer? I believe my insurance pays for 4 days (in hours) and I'm thinking I should take advantage of that.
We had our DD Friday at 4 am and were discharged Monday at 4 pm. They gave us the option to stay another night if we wanted. I think insurance is required to pay for 4 nights
I just wanted to share this article I found about c-sections and mommy guilt in case any of you might be struggling with this.
I was hoping to avoid a c-section but after being at 9-10cm for over 8 hours ultimately realized my sweetie pie wasn't going to come out vaginally no matter what I did. So my midwife and I agreed to do a section before LO started showing signs of distress. Turned out she was sunny side up with the cord around her neck, explaining why she wouldn't turn and move down. I know I made the right decision for her.

I had some really negative feelings about my CS with DD1 because it was a "failed" labor. This baby was a VBAC, and a stupid as I know it is, I feel like it made up for my CS. The whole thing is dumb. I shouldn't have felt guilty/like I failed because I followed my doctor's recommendation, but I definitely did.
I haven't been posting much during this pregnancy, but could use advice.
My OB's office called to tell me that the hospital changed my RCS from Fri to Sat! WTF?! I scheduled it two months in advance and had all sorts of child care coordinated for DS that now needs revamping. How did I get bumped? Has anyone heard of this happening or is my doctor flaking out on me?
