Well I exclusively breastfeeding but pump when I need too. I work part time. So would like to hear how other moms are managing with that. I realize my post is a little silly now.
I did join, but unfortunately I haven't really seen a group in my area that I liked based on their description, or the group met at a location that was too far away.
I looked into meetup! Ridiculous but my local "moms" group actually requires you not work full time to join! I guess I didnt want to play their reindeer games anyway =x.

That's just crazy. I mean sure a stay at home mom has greater flexibility to attend events and such but dang. Working mommies need friends, too!
None of our local meetup groups that I would fit into are active at all, so I'm out of luck there

That's crazy! Just about all of my local groups are for working moms. And the other's talk about politics in the synopsis... Yeah, uh no thanks.
There aren't any local meet ups for working moms in my area either. None explicitly exclude moms who work outside the home, but they happen to meet in the middle of the day through the week. A number of ladies I work with have had babies in the past year and we're trying to start our own group so we can hang out on weekends.
If there's something strange underneath the hood. Who you gonna call? Your Doctor. If there's something weird and it don't look good. Who you gonna call? Your Doctor. Immediately. If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor. It's for your health and your child's.
Wow that is crazy! I agree. Working mommies need friends too! I checked my area and there's nothing. I think it'll get easier once our LO'S are a little older due to play dates and preschool and such. But feels so far away and I don't want to rush this precious time! I'm free to talk if any of you ladies would like too!
I was so stabby over the "must not work full time" clause! Blatant discrimination! I would love to stay home with LO but thats not a luxury our family can afford.
I almost submitted a nasty statement to the group leader but then thought better of it.

People that ignorant will never understand why you're mad about it.

There's a group called Boobs and Beers where I'm at, a breastfeeding/mom support group that meets at different breweries around town. I read about it in the paper a few weeks ago and then randomly started talking to another mom at the grocery store tonight who also told me about it. I'm not a super outgoing person and have been a little bit if a recluse since having the baby, but I'm thinking about checking this out.
@bellie1223 How exciting that you found a group. I find it a little ironic that breastfeeding mom's are going to breweries. Lol
Actually, dark beers have a positive effect on lactation for many women. It's something frequently suggested for low supply.

@VexedMommy wow really? I never heard of that before! Im wondering if thats due to the brewers yeast? @GoogleMD that is nice that you get to enjoy that and relax a little.
I guess you always hear that it's bad to mix the two. I've heard you can drink and that very little goes through to the milk and then you can pump and dump.

Pumping and dumping is actually an outdated concept and has been proven unnecessary. It does not transfer into milk in any significant amount to cause any issues for a baby. The only concern with drinking and nursing is the actual handling of the baby if you're drunk and uncoordinated, your milk is perfectly fine for baby whether you've been drinking or not. I know this isn't the point of this thread, but I just felt the need to say it, because it seems so many people are misinformed about this matter. I can get some sources if you're interested or unsure about it.
@kmd91 I'd love to see some sources on that! I totally agree with you, it's just interesting material and I'd like to know more so that I'm more informed and can inform others as well!
Exactly what @kmd9 said. I never pump and dump, I am obviously not getting wasted. If I feel comfortable driving, then I am comfortable giving him milk.
Pftttt I have never and will never pump and dump- are you kidding me?! That shit is gold, I will hoard this stuff until I can no longer supply my baby ( which will be sooner than later) or Armageddon happens. I read that and visibly cringed. I'm not toasted, neither will my girl be.

I've this a few places as well, it's four am here so I just found once quickly. I also own the Jack Newman book and it says it's fine. I've been told the same by my doctor, and two lactation consultants.
However the Motherrisk website advises that its best to wait, and that pumping and dumping doesn't work. They have a general chart to follow. Even with reading the research, the risks to baby are minimal and I think it's up to you to decide what you are comfortable with. I personally am comfortable having a glass of wine or beer as I am nursing or just after I nurse, knowing that it will likely be an hour or so until baby eats again.
Saramore, when you do find a group, stick with it for a couple times. I tried a few, and made myself go back even if it didn't feel like a good fit. After a few weeks, two of them really just weren't a good fit and the other moms just weren't for me. One of the groups took a few weeks to get comfortable in, but is now my daughter and I's favourite. It really does help to meet just a few other moms you can talk with and relate to.
