Last night I went to bed at 8 but can never get a good night's sleep because my nightmare cat is always running around and screaming. We have a car door so they can go outside, but only the normal one goes outside to run around. The nightmare does it on the perimeter of our bed.
Our cat used to do that when he was a kitten after we first adopted him...we used to give him a dose of Whisker City Cat Calm before we went to bed. It was a life saver! You can get it at PetsMart. A woman I work with also had good luck using a calming collar on her cat (also available at PetsMart).

Do you by any chance sleep upstairs with the living quarters on a different level? When we moved to our house we laid down the law and our cat isnt allowed upstairs.  It's been a lifesaver.  Mostly it was just closing all the doors upstairs so he couldnt get there.

@comealongponds she is 7 years old! I will try this though, thanks.
@nauticallife we are one floor. I might just try shutting the door but I'm afraid she'll cry outside. Plus the other normal one likes to cuddle with us..

To clarify, she's a sweetie all day, but I can't stand being woken up.
  • I love how cuddly the cat has been lately but the in-your-face-at-2:00AM-MEOWING-BITCH-WAKE-UP-AND-GIMME-LOVINS bullshit has to stop.

  • I currently require a nap around 3pm every day. Have a thing tonight so I'm going to nap from 2-3 before I get up and get ready.

This is a big problem because 2-3 times a week I have mandatory stuff in the afternoon and I end up a zombie by 8pm if I don't have that nap. Last week I actually had to leave my car at the hospital (I had a session there) overnight and have my husband pick me up because I was too tired to drive safely one day.

Of course even though I am basically non-functional by 9:30-10pm most nights, I can't fall asleep until midnight. Dammit.

  • My cat would lose her damn mind if we shut the door at night! Luckily she is a super good sleeper and only occasionally wakes up in the middle of the night and does that crazy grumbling while running laps thing.
  • @whaat I'd honestly try and get the cats out of the room before baby comes anyways.  I never thought I would bedshare, but it was the only way DS would sleep.  I thought he would be in his own room by 6 weeks (HA) and if the cat was in bed with us I wouldve been really nervous about suffocation and all that.  That's obviously just my experience though.

This thread has made me feel so much better about my sleep issues, in my head I keep freaking out and assuming it's due to low progesterone and stressing out.

DH & I go to bed around 10 or 11pm and I usually fall asleep right away. But for the last 3 weeks or so, I have consistently been waking up at 3 or 4am and then not being able to fall back asleep. I just keep tossing & turning. I always wake up feeling overheated too, not matter what I wear or how many blankets I have on me.

I've been a lighter sleeper lately and DH has been sick so if he coughs at any point during the night, I am awake and STAY awake. It was 1am the night before last and I was just exhausted at work all day yesterday.

As for sleep positions, I have never been a back sleeper but it seems to be the comfiest position right now. I toss & turn if I'm on my side. My cat also sleeps in bed with us, I'm starting to think maybe that should end. Between me, my DH & cat and how hot & restless I am at night, I need all the space to spread out that I can get!

This was my cat this morning when he thought I'd slept too late.  Or course he started my jumping from the ground straight up onto my sore boobs.  I half screamed and he flipped out and jumped back down off of my face.  Then he tried again and tried this shit until I got up and moved to the couch, where he curled up to sleep peacefully on me.  I was wide awake.  Just like I had been for a couple hours at 3am... Going to be a long day.

Honestly, I'm planning to start locking the cats out of our room toward the end of the pregnancy (trying to decide when) so they get used to it.  That picture doesn't freak me out in the context of being awake and watching the cats interact with the baby.  But both cats regularly lay on my face in the middle of the night and I DO worry about them doing that to baby while I'm sleeping and suffocating him or her.

    edit: clarity.

  • @MrsDho11 yeah, if I had a face sleeper, I would be freaked out too!
I am assuming my cat is going to be terrified of the baby. She is kind of a wimp.

I was this, exactly. I was nervous about the cat at night only. We locked her out for the first 3 months or so until I felt positive she wasn't going to curl up to his warmth and that he was strong enough to squawk out and let me know she was too close at night. It's not something you ever want to risk, it has happened before and tbh it was also about me. I was so freaking paranoid about her getting to close to him in his PnP that I was jumping awake every time she shifted in the room. I couldn't handle being that jumpy and I couldn't handle losing the sleep.
  • @therealvday that is me exactly! I've been falling asleep a little earlier than normal but after 3 or 4 tossing and turning until I have to wake up. I also wake up some mornings drenched in sweat so that doesn't help! I also never was a back sleeper and now it's the only comfortable position!

Oh man. I can't wait for the kids to come and we're all waking up every two hours to feed and basically becoming scary zombies so that we can look back at this thread and sigh, nostalgic for the good old days.

That being said, I'm definitely sleeping poorly! Pregnancy hormones stink.

That's what I keep telling myself. This is just preparing me for all those night feedings....at least I know I can function with only a few hours.
