I had always heard this too but it wasn't the case for me. My first was 8 lbs, born at 42 weeks and my 2nd was 7lbs 1 oz born at 39 weeks.
My mom had 4 kids and we were all overdue. Each baby got a half a lb bigger in birth order.
When I reminded my OB how large my DD was at 40w2d, he jokingly said, oh man, and if this is a boy we better prepare for a big one! lol I actually don't think this one (a boy even!) will be as big. I was always measuring about 2 weeks ahead with DD, and, I'll be having a RCS at 39 weeks. We have another scan at 36 weeks and I'm hoping they'll give an estimate how he's trending to give us an idea. We were completely blindsided by the size of my daughter!
DS was 8 lb 2 oz (39 weeks exactly) and DD was 8 lb. 4 oz. (39 weeks and a few days) so they were similar. This one was estimated to be 4 lb 8 oz at 32 weeks so I'm thinking about 81/2 lb if I go to 40 weeks.
DD1 was 8 lbs 1 oz at 40 weeks and DD2 was 7 lbs even at 39 weeks. So even if they were born at the same gestational age, DD2 would have been smaller than DD1.
I asked my doctor this week because DS1 was 6lbs 10 oz at 39+4 and DS2 is measuring 5lbs at 34 weeks. I keep trying to remember that DS1 measured almost 8lbs at our last scan the week he was born. Curious to see if this little guy is bigger than his brother.
I hope not. My first was 9lbs 13oz at 39 weeks, 21.5". I'm only 5ft tall with no torso. I felt like I was going to explode! I'm not sure how he fit in there.
So I only have one other data point, but at my growth scan at 36 weeks they said baby was measuring 6lbs 6oz. DD was only 6lbs at birth (39 weeks), so I was like WHAT?! I'm guessing that's at least a little bit off.
#1- 6 lbs 2 oz #2 - 7 lbs 6 oz (not my genetics, surrobabe) #3- to arrive May 23rd. I'm expecting a bigger than 6 pounds, but curious to see how he will fall!
My second was only 3oz heavier than the first, the same length, and my water broke at almost the same time gestationally (39+1 vs 39+3). My doctor joked that my uterus must enforce a strict max capacity.
Re: Moms of Many - were your other babies bigger than the first?
Not a huge difference, but a bit bigger than the first.
Second - 9 lbs. 4 oz.
2nd - 7lb 2oz boy at 40 weeks
I think my 2nd weighed less because of the week less gestation and because I purposefully ate less sweets.
2nd: 9lbs 10oz born at 39 weeks exactly
2nd: 7lbs 8oz
3rd: 8lbs 12oz
4th: Oh dear God keep him under 9lbs please
2nd 7lb10oz @ 40w2d
growth scan tomorrow at 33w4d to see how big this little guy is measuring, but he feels bigger than my 2 daughters
1st: 7lb 3oz @ 39w2d
2nd: 8lb 14oz @ 40w1d
DD born at 40w3d: 7lbs 15oz
DS born at 39w4d: 8lbs 4 oz..
If my son cooked as long as my dgt he would of been way bigger!
2nd - 9 lbs, 11 oz at 39w0d

#2 - 7 lbs 6 oz (not my genetics, surrobabe)
#3- to arrive May 23rd. I'm expecting a bigger than 6 pounds, but curious to see how he will fall!
DD2 was 7lbs 2 oz at 39 wks.
Time wise, I'm betting my first would have been bigger had she gone to 39 weeks. 3oz isn't much of a difference to me.
DS1 was 6lbs at 38 wks 4 days.
DD3 was 6lbs at 37 wks.
DS1 was an IUGR baby and weighed a lb less that DD1 born the same time. Had DD3 had two more weeks, I'm sure she would have been the same as DD1.
The rest have been between 6lbs 10oz and 7lbs. All comparable, and not much of a difference. I suspect this baby will be the higher end of 6 lbs.
DD 7lbs 15oz at 42w
DS2 8lb 8oz at 39w2d
DD2 at 40+2 was 8 lb 1 oz.
So if DD1 went full term they probably would've been closer to a 1 lb difference.
DD1 7lbs 15oz
DS2 8lbs 11oz
