So this is more of a rant than a question type of post but I just gotta get it off my chest! Starting this week, the 6th for me, I just CANNOT get full. I eat something, even if its substantial, and a couple hours later I'm literally starving again. Like stomach growling, getting dizzy and a little nauseous have to eat right now, can only think about food, starving. Its frustrating because I've been trying to eat healthy and for the last 2 weeks after finding out I was doing soooooo good with the healthy food, fruits, veggies, eggs, lean meats, whole grains, low fat dairy, all natural etc., but now it seems like I can stuff myself with grapes or apples and it doesn't even put a dent in my hunger. Worse yet, other than fruits, most of the healthy foods give me nausea just to look at or think of eating so I've been regrettably giving in to junk food cravings more than I'd like in order to not feel tired, dizzy, and nauseous and as a result feeling hella guilty about it after. I just had some tortillas chips 15 minutes ago and can literally taste homemade chocolate chip cookies in my mouth right now I want them so bad.... The thought of yogurt or a banana instead makes me want to hurl... I hope this passes because I don't want to gain excess weight (I was at the highest end of normal BMI to begin with) or make things bad for my baby but its like I have no control! Ugh!!
Just stay active and eat what you want, within reason, when you want.
Also, what @mrszoess said... Welcome to pregnancy. I'm at the point where I can only eat so much before there's literally no room left in there because kid is taking up all the space. So take advantage of food while you can.
My first tri all I wanted was carbs and crap. I think that's pretty typical. Try to stick to a healthy diet, but don't kill yourself over it. Once my pregnancy progressed, I was back to eating regular food. I think I actually lost weight this tri because I have no space in my stomach for food anymore...
I have my first doctors appointment on Monday which is most likely my eighth week; we'll officially find out then, however I've noticed the last two weeks I've been hungry more often and at first I wasn't staying full. Thankfully I'm having food cravings for healthier things like fruits and veggies, but to keep hunger pains away I have been including proteins into my meals. I've noticed chicken has definitely been keeping me more satisfied and I've been pairing that with avocado (which I have HATED until the last couple of weeks)!
1st tri fruits and veggies made me wank to hurl, chicken was absolutely repulsive. A lot of grill cheese and cereal. It passed, 2nd was pretty much back to normal. Except the chicken, just couldn't eat chicken.
I was like this from weeks 6-8. I was so hungry and had a voracious appetite. Nothing was satisfying enough. Now at 11 weeks I feel like it has subsided and I can go back to eating at normal hours again. I feel like maybe it's your body just telling you what it needs. If you're hungry, eat!
I'm only 4wks3days, but I've been crazy hungry since my embryo transfer (2 weeks ago) and couldn't understand why. Today I found out ... My TSH level shot up since getting pregnant. That explains the recent weight gain & constant hunger.
****Siggy TW**** natural pregnancy: 2008 Me: 28 (Hypothyroid), DH: 35 Together since: 2010 Married: 2013 TTC: 2013 Infertility: severe MFI, low AMH (0.5) Met RE: January 2016 ER: 3/14 (4 follies, 6 eggs retrieved, 2 fertilized) fresh 3dt of 2 embryos= BFP (1 implanted) EDD w/ baby boy= 12/6/16
I am only 4+5 and I am absolutely starving, I have been since a few days before I got my BFP. I can eat and literally 5 minutes later I am hungry again. I wake up hungry and go to sleep hungry. Sometimes if I don't eat I start to feel nauseous and then when I do eat I feel sicker! I can't win lol
My only aversion so far has been BBQ anything, especially potato chips. Just the thought or smell of them turns my stomach. I used to love the Honey BBQ ones but now when my husband eats them I can't even stand to kiss him after. And barbecue sauce on things like ribs also makes me feel nauseous and sounds totally unappealing, yuck!
So... I have been extra bad this last week and a half..... Lots of unhealthy food cravings that I have given into and since there were multiple friend and family outings recently, I've been too tempted to not give in and indulged much more than I should (anxiety in some social situations tends to make me eat much more also), now I'm feeling major regret I know I can't change it but I really overdid it and know I was way over on the calories, really hoping I didn't gain too much (I'm not getting on the scale in the meantime cause I don't need the added guilt/anxiety). Yesterday I stocked up on some healthier options but I still find myself starving to the point of dizziness and having trouble staying within the calories limits...
I ate all carbs and crap in my 1st tri, and seriously loved the pasta the whole way through my pregnancy. Its a hard road! Just eat as healthy as you can, maybe combat the extra calories with a bit of exercise? I had pasta most nights for dinner when i was pregnant, but i went for a 45 min walk pretty much every day, and i usually just had a plate of roasted veges for lunch (satisfied the carb craving but lower GI) maybe get carrot/celery sticks for the fridge? I used to snack on those all day guilt free. Are you drinking enough water? Sometimes when we feel hungry we are actually thirsty and you need alot of water when you are pregnant
Ugh, I'm always hungry so I didn't even take heed to that symptom. The difference is I'm always trying to lose weight, so I'd ignore the hunger pangs. Now I have a reason to give in!! I've been training for this my whole life!!
@Schmoopie1 I know what you mean. I was trying to lose weight with my husband before and now even he is using it as an excuse not to excercie as much. Saying if I'm not there it doesn't motivate him, and the fact that I'm cooking large meals now doesn't help. I think he might develop a food baby to match.
@KitMachine I think I'm finally starting to feel the "hungry-every-15-minutes" thing. I had lunch, then almonds, yogurt and just ate cucumbers in Italian dressing...still hungry. A half gallon of water and 2 cups of herbal tea. I'm literally scanning my desk at work for something edible hahahaha!!!
Make smart choices Ideally, you only want to increase your caloric intake by 3-400 calories per day. Also, and maybe it was just me, but if I ate big meals (even slightly bigger than normal) I would get MASSIVE heartburn. I found that by eating smaller meals (almost half the size of a normal meal when not pregnant), I'd have little to no heartburn.
As far as husbands using your pregnancy as an excuse as to why THEY gained weight too, they'll do that, but make them make smart choices with you. We always have a bunch of fresh fruit and veggies in the fridge, I TRY to cook a bunch of proteins over the weekend so we have stuff on hand thats fairly healthy (roasted chicken, chicken sausages, sometimes seasoned ground beef, etc.) for when we both need a snack but aren't ready for an actual meal yet.
