3rd Trimester

Numbing and tingling

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and all of a sudden, my right hand and arm have gone numb and tingling. It's almost like I fell asleep on it funny, but I didn't. I'm concerned because it came on all of a sudden with no warning signs or anything other then last weekend had a migraine that showed stroke like symptoms and I lost feeling or my legs and my righy arm, vision in my right eye and my ability to speak. If anyone has gone threw the same thing and could help ease my anxiety just a little. It would be much appreciated.

Re: Numbing and tingling

  • Call your OB, but the arm numbness could just be Carpel tunnel. I have that each pregnancy. Did you get medical help with your migraine?

  • I've gotten carpal tunnel pretty bad in the third trimester, crazy numbness! Wearing a splint helps.

I've been dealing with that for about 2 months.  Carpel tunnel brought on by pregnancy.  It cramps if I do too much writing.  It's also both numb and tingly at the same time and makes it uncomfortable to sleep.  Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it, but it is normal and pops up without warning.

  • If you hadn't mentioned the migraine, I'd guess carpal tunnel. Wearing a splint, especially while I'm sleeping, has helped tremendously (although I've had no feeling in my fingertips for a couple weeks now). That said, I'd give your OB a call regardless, because the other symptoms are pretty worrisome, and it's always better safe than sorry.
  • I had carpal tunnel as well during and post pregnancy.  Call your ob to be sure and look into splints and cold.  The numbness could be from inflammation (from hormones) reducing your circulation.
