Umbilical Stump Irritated

Has anyone else's LO irritated their umbilical stump to the point of bleeding? We've been doing as instructed and leaving alone, keeping her diaper from rubbing it etc. However, my DD's umbilical stump is oozing a bit of blood and appears irritated. No pus or spreading redness so I don't think it's infected.  I've already called the nurse line and they said to leave it open to the air like a scab. We see the doctor tomorrow so I'm not too worried. I just wondered if any other momma's had any experience with this and how to prevent it from getting more irritated before tomorrow's appointment?

We were instructed to clean it with alcohol every diaper change.  It dried it up quickly and it fell off between 10-11 days.

We had that happen.  Dr wasn't concerned and said it was normal.  We wouldn't dress him in pants and he would wear just a shirt and diaper

Our LOs stump was a bit bleedy and irritated for about 3-4 days after it fell off. I would always notice a bit of blood on her singlet when i would take it off, but i gave her a bath one morning and no more bleeding. Just keep it clean and watch for any redness

My baby's did this too. The dr said we could clean it with alcohol when we noticed it. She said to watch for active bleeding,but not to worry about a little dry blood. She also recommended keeping it dry. He accidentally kicked his off during a diaper change at 7 days, so there was some dried blood for a few days after as well, but it seems to have healed now (almost 3 weeks old)

Thanks ladies! Saw the doctor this afternoon and she assured us that it was just part of the stump drying up and falling off. I fee better now!
