39weeks and 3 days

Hello All, this is my first baby and I had my 39 week appointment today and I am not dilated at all. Nor have I experienced any contractions real or Braxton Hicks. I was just wondering how many mom's experienced this same thing with their first. And if so how long did your OB let you go before inducing labor.

My OB said that she typically doesn't induce until 41 weeks, but will allow it to go up until 42. It becomes too risky to wait past that point.

I started having BH around 20 weeks or so. Then at 37 weeks they hit hard. I ended up in L&D with major back pain. And now here I am at 40+3 and I'm STILL only 1 cm dilated. We go in tomorrow night to start induction. My OB said since I'm healthy and everything that there is no need to be pregnant anymore. 

Maybe yours will be just as nice? Lol. I will say what everyone has said to me that has been really frustrating, baby will come when baby is ready. I think since because I've been having contractions and not progressing is why my OB has decided to go with induction. But also! Things can change in the blink of an eye. You can go from nothing to 3 really quick. It just depends on your body. I would just talk to your doctor and see what your options are. Good luck!!

I had a similar experience with my first baby. I ended up delivering without an induction 10 days after my due date. 

Typically, doctors are cautious with inductions with first time moms. Before 41 weeks, an induction greatly increases your risk of ending up with a c-section.

I was sooooo discouraged at my 39 week appt when they told me I was still only at 1 cm! I cried. I cried that day a lot. Lol. But like I said before things can change quickly and I'll tell you this much I'm still in disbelief that tomorrow we will be heading to the hospital to start induction. I'm nervous and scared but mostly ready to meet this little bean. We thought this week would drag on and on and here we are in bed Wednesday night for the last time as 2! It will fly by I promise!! With my first I wasn't dilated at all at my 40 week appointment! She came on her own three days later, but we did set up an induction date at 41 weeks if she didn't come on her own.

I totally understand and am getting super impatient as I am just stuck at home with my in laws all freaking day long while DH is at work and DD is at daycare. My due date is the 30th and it sucks to think that I'm so close, yet I am not dilated at all per my OB on Monday.  I know the dilation doesn't really tell me anything but I was really hoping at least I was making a little bit of progress.  I think I will discuss about getting induced in my next appointment. I don't want to wait until 41 or 42 weeks, especially because I will not get any help after mid April.  Good luck to all of us!

Hey, I'm 39w4d today, and the same thing is going on here with me. On my due date I have an appointment for a non stress test, and then from there they're going to "discuss" an induction with me. But my doctor warned me and said that our WIP is VERY busy right now and it could take 2 weeks or so just to get me an appointment. How disappointing! I just want to meet my little guy too! Sending labor dust your way, I hope you have a fast and easy delivery!

This is the reason many decline these checks as they mean absolutely nothing and can be extremely discouraging.

Today I am 39 weeks and 3 days.. and still waiting.. only 1 cm.. and I am seriously considering induction.. so tired and exhausted.. good luck to you all

I agree at 38 weeks the doctor put me on light activity and early maternity leave (which is not paid unfortunately) I think that is why I got so discouraged. Felt like my week of "bed rest" was for nothing.

Good luck! My due date was yesterday (Easter Sunday) and still no signs of this little guy making an appearance soon.

I had no dilation or effacement at my 39 week appt (baby born 4 days later).  I did not feel a single contraction till my water broke spontaneously the night before the induction.  I had 4 contractions during the 15 minute ride to the hospital and was dilated to a 4 at arrival.  This is my second baby!
