Where do you feel movement?

I know most of us are close to feeling movements for the first time....if we haven't already! YAY!

I am 18 weeks today and have been getting consistent movement very low (like right above my pubic bone) for a week or so.  Not all day, but several times a day.  What I can't find is based on your week, WHERE should we be feeling movement?  I can feel the top of my uterus and it's right below my belly button (3rd kid, so it happened faster) so in my brain, this little girl should be swimming and kicking all over....but I ONLY feel her super low.

Just one of the questions that I am searching google for relentlessly today....to avoid work of course!

TIA!

Re: Where do you feel movement?

  • I haven't felt him much (18 weeks yesterday), but I did feel a few little pops on Sunday. It is usually at night when I first lay down in bed. It was lower, maybe 2 inches below and to the left of my belly button.

  • I just started feeling flutters and they are super low also.
  • I felt most of the pokes/ pops very low until yesterday. My stomach got very tight and baby was jabbing and squirming.... and eventually went back down lower and gave me more room in my stomach. first time I felt the bubbles was 15w5d and then a week later I started feeling baby a bit everyday, now its much more powerful at 19w2d.
  • I'm 18 weeks 3 days and I also feel them very low, right above my pelvic bone. I'm guessing baby has their little legs down there. Some days I may only feel it once or twice and some days around 10. I can't wait until it is more consistent!

  • I felt baby girl kick for the first time at 17 weeks. She's been going strong ever since. Most movements were lower at first. I've been feeling rolling movements higher up (belly button or just below) for the last week. A lot still lower. I think even though your uterus is growing how it should, baby is still going to move and kick where they want.

  • 18 weeks, always low and mostly to the right.
  • Nowhere yet! Darn anterior placenta.  I was hoping with twins I'd get a little more action, but nope nothing yet!

  • I feel all of the movements low but the doctor said that was normal especially since I have an anterior placenta. I think regardless of which way the placenta is facing it's still normal to feel them pretty low at this point!

  • I have anterior placenta as well, and have only felt movement down low. I am 20w1d.

  • I'm 21w3d and my uterus is over an inch over my belly button. I've been feeling movement for over 2 weeks. It started low and to the left side.  It's still all low, bladder area, but I'm feeling it more in the middle, not limited to the left side anymore.

  • I'm 18 1/2 weeks and don't feel movement constantly but when I do it's pretty low. The baby seems to be about halfway between my pubic bone and belly button (that's where the Doppler found the heartbeat the last 2 weeks at my appts).
  • I thought I was going crazy having phantom movements just below my belly button but an ultrasound confirmed that baby is really high.  I'm 18 weeks now and apparently this baby is following in the footsteps of my dd.  I just hope this one moves down eventually......unlike my dd.
  • @Jengle77 Have you had your anatomy scan? As some ladies have mentioned, an anterior placenta will keep you from feeling things higher up for a while. Baby definitely moves around for me, but does like hanging out on the left. Baby is breech right now, so I think that affects where you feel things too. Baby, to me, seems to be hanging out low mostly and is getting heavier down there!

  • I'm 21 weeks and always feel him low. I have my anatomy scan tomorrow so if that provides any additional insight, I'll report back!
  • I'm 20 wks STM, and I've only felt kicks in the same area as you (right around my panty line). I found out yesterday that I have an anterior placenta this pregnancy, which explains why I can't feel movement higher in my belly region. The kicks feel like pops or flutters. With my 1st pregnancy, I felt them below my belly button and off to the sides.
  • I'm 20 weeks tomorrow. All the flutters have been below my belly button, maybe an inch or two? We got our first real kick last night and it was much lower than I thought it would be, closer to my pubic bones than the flutters have been.

  • This is my third baby and I feel most of the movement pretty low, about 2ish inches below my belly button. I had an ultrasound at 15W3D and they didn't say anything about where my placenta is, so... I don't know if that has any effect on where I feel the movement or not. At that ultrasound, they did tell me that baby was head down at that point. I wonder if that had anything to do with it also? We go for our Anatomy scan next week, I can't wait!  :)
  • 21 weeks today and still haven't felt a thing. My doctor said the anterior placenta is why and we know baby's in there moving around. Just nothing...
  • Yep, as PP's stated-- right above my panty line. Very low at first around 17 wks then kicks sort of moved up but not by much.
  • I'm 21 weeks today with my 3rd and an anterior placenta. Apparently baby girl is gonna be a super spawn like my 19 mo old because I  have been feeling her like crazy ,she must be a damn gymnast in there lol it was super low but past week or two has moved to just below belly button area .my husband can't wait til he can feel from the outside !ultrasound later today ,can't wiat to see her swimming around in there !
  • I think I finally felt something the other night! Right below my belly button. It only happened for like a minute and it hasn't happened again. Waiting to see if it happens again to see if it was really the baby moving.
  • 3rd kid also and super low movements. I was actually kicked in my bladder a bunch of times the other day...way too early for that business ;)

  • I was changing the other day and my belly looked like it had gone to the left and then went back into place my first full on pregnancy and I thought it was pretty amazing to see, I almost started crying because I've never experienced something so beautiful, seems each day belly grows I fall in love much more and get more excited as the weeks go.
  • 21 weeks today, and just this morning started feeling baby around my belly button. I think baby may have turned overnight

  • My placenta is anterior this time, so even at 20 weeks I'm only feeling light pokes way down low and a few off to the sides now and then.  Every ultrasound the sonographers have commented that he's a squirmer so aaarrrgh I wanna feel it!  With DD I could feel her externally by now...not digging this anterior placenta nonsense!  Maybe I'll appreciate when I can't feel hiccups...that was the only super annoying thing with DD lol.

  • I'm 21 weeks and started feeling baby around 17 to 18. He stayed low and usually to the right side up until the last week. He still tends to stay low, but I've felt a few kicks at or above my belly button lately. I think they just have a favorite spot. My nurse explained there is the most room on the right side, less organs in the way. Won't be long until we feel feet in our ribs and lungs!
  • At 19 weeks and mine are still pretty low, but they're getting stronger. I spent an hour last night trying to get into a position that the baby would feel like moving in (I felt a ton of movement right when I laid down) to see if I could get a hard enough kick to feel on the outside. I've been able to feel it a couple times on my legs when I'm curled up, but whenever I put my hand on my lower abdomin it stops. I remember DD doing that, too. It's like they don't want to be touched :) I want so bad for DH to be able to feel. I know he felt DD before our anatomy scan at 20 weeks. I could also feel her sooner and she moved a lot more, though.
  • Thanks ladies.  No anatomy scan yet.  I have one when I am 21 weeks.  My two other babies were super active and I felt them from 16 weeks on, so this one is just a little different.  And I have been so stressed that I am convinced that I am stressing her out too much and that is why she wont move around.  UGH!  Three more weeks!
  • Last Monday and Tuesday I felt what I thought was the baby moving, and on Wed I had an appointment and the doctor said she could hear movement on the doppler. But I haven't felt anything since! It has me worried a little bit.
  • I don't think I've felt a kick yet but, I don't know for sure!  I will feel a little ping of something or like a wave bubble if that makes sense but, I just don't know what I'm looking for.  Does it kinda hurt? Or is that prolly RLP? I forgot to ask if I have an anterior placenta at the last ultra sound so I'm just not sure!!
  • DDs kicks didn't hurt until I had a huge bump and she was higher and kicking my bladder or diaphragm really hard. These little ones feel kind of like twitches or gas bubbles floating around. Occasionally I'll feel a hard one that can wake me up if I'm just falling asleep, but they don't hurt. It just feels like someone poking me from the inside.
  • Mine are feeling like when your stomach drops. It's lower around the bone as well.

  • I can feel his head on my lower abdomen from the outside... I only feel movement or pressure when lying on my tummy,  no kicks yet.

I don't know when your next ultrasound is, but you may have an anterior placenta. I had a nurse listen on Thursday with a Doppler and she was hearing tons of movement as I felt nothing. At my anatomy scan on Friday the tech said my placenta is just blocking me from feeling most of the movement. That's probably what's going on in your case. It's not bad, just makes us mamas worry for no reason!
  • I'm 21 weeks and I was previously feeling light movement just down low. Yesterday, I started feeling a little more movement a little higher and to the right. I woke up in the middle of the night and when I was going back to sleep, I felt some movement on the outside for the first time! I could only feel it if I laid on my right side and wedged my hand between my belly and the mattress though. I'm looking forward to them getting stronger and more frequent!

  • 19 weeks 5 days and DH got to feel baby today. The movements were really high too, like at the top of my bump. He could feel baby moving around in there.
  • I didn't really start feeling anything consistent til I was 18 weeks and it's still more flutters than anything. I feel mine pretty low below my belly button still, now almost 20weeks.  Mainly feel them at night while in bed or sitting down resting after a big meal.

This A.M. I feel the baby about 2 inches below my belly button. I'm 19w2d. I love feeling it from the outside. *squeeeee*
Anatomy scan in less than 2 hours, I might throw up. Ugh
