Halloween Costumes 2016

hey ladies! I know it's early, but Halloween is a big deal around our house. We do a family costume theme every year. This year was supposed to be my turn to pick, but my due date is Nov 6, and DS was 3 weeks early. So now I'll either be pregnant, or look pregnant with an infant. I need help with some group costume ideas!

Re: Halloween Costumes 2016

  • Also, DS is 5 if that makes a difference
  • Loading the player...
  • I haven't thought of ideas yet, but we also do family costumes.  I'm not due til late Nov (and I always go over), so I'm guessing if this one sticks I'll need a pregnant costume.

  • I'm not due until the very end of November so will definitely be huge around Halloween. I hadn't realized that yet... getting excited now! As for ideas, I have none so far.
  • I don't know if I"ll make it to halloween. I'm due 11/7 and went 6 days early with my first. I'm too lazy to plan something i might not get to do, I think!

  • @m6agua That is an amazing idea! Now I can't stop imagining putting my husband in that running outfit!
  • If we have a baby by then, s/he will still be super new, and Halloween is cold here :( I'm probably sidelined this year. DH and DD want to be superheroes this year. Well, DH does. DD has no idea Halloween is even a thing, although she liked trick or treating this year.

  • @m6agua Those are awesome costumes! We aren't big halloween people, but I just sent him that idea and he got so excited! He is pumped to rock the gym clothes. We are totally stealing your idea!
  • I'm due 11/1 and was 9 days early with DS so I probably won't be pregnant, but 2 years ago when I was I was a trucker with a beer belly and it was hysterical.  Not sure how you would turn that into a family outfit though.
    DS  12-1-2014
    DD 10-29-2016
    #3 due 10-13-2018
  • I'm thinking super hero's for us. My DD is obsessed with capes and Tutu's at the moment. 7 months is a long time in the life of a toddler but I'm guessing she wouldn't mind being a tutu wearing super hero ;) I guarantee Dad wont dress up, but maybe I can think of a cool superhero outfit for super pregnant mom ;)
  • You could be:
    Winnie the Pooh and friends.
Sunny side up, bread and bacon.
Mike from Monster Inc and some other monsters.

Of course we do expect pictures of your costume around Halloween!

    I'm always a witch, so I guess I'll be a pregnant witch.  :|
  • When I was pregnant with my DS I was Homer from The Simpsons...it was tragic but hilarious!

  • I love that you started this thread!!! I was just pinning ideas for costumes on Sunday!  My favorite family ones were Winnie the pooh and care bears.  The skeleton outfit/shirt is always cute, too.  If baby comes early and you still want to dress up, the popcorn vendor one looks really cute.

We are Royals fans and there is a player whose nickname is Moose. I'm going to put my toddler in a moose costume and add a Royals shirt.

ETA: and I plan on dressing my belly up as a baseball.

@virginiaham Exactly! It made me think of @MrsDho11 and her giving birth to a unicorn comment on one of those "am I pregnant?!" threads. At least I think it was her. My memory is horrible!

  • We might finally do Star Wars this year. I could totally do a pregnant Padema. And then DS can be Ezra, the hubs can be bobo fett and if baby is here, s/he'd make a super cute baby yoda.
  • I'm in the same boat @angelz429. My EDD is 11/6 and DS was a week early, so I'm thinking this LO will probably arrive before November. Even with a newborn, there is no way I want to miss out on DS's first real Halloween (he was too little last year to have any clue what was going on)! At this point he's not at all into TV or any characters, though he does have a Curious George stuffed animal he loves .... hmm ... this could be tough, but I guess we have a long time to brainstorm lol.
  • @angelz429We did Star Wars this year. I was Leia, DH was Han Solo, and our daughter was Chewbacca. She makes the wookie noises all the time so we thought it was appropriate. She LOVED her costume. It was fuzzy on the inside so it was super comfy.

I think I'm just going to do a jack-o-lantern tummy this year though. I have an orange maternity shirt so I'll just stick some black felt shapes on there.

  • Halloween 2012 I was 37 weeks PG with DS1. This year on Halloween, I'll be 37 weeks PG with #3.

That Halloween, I dressed up as a "ticking time bomb." Black tank top and skirt (I lived in Africa, it was warm), with my belly as the bomb- we stuck onto my belly a piece of sisal rope (like you see at the end of an old fashioned bomb) with yellow and red streamers coming off the end. People were amused.

It needs to be said.  If your Padme, DS would have to be Luke and DH should be Darth Vader/Anakin, also if LO is a she, she should be Leia.  You'd be missing out on too good of an opportunity if you didn't.

With my first I wore the baby skeleton shirt but I wasn't nearly as far along as I will be if I'm still pregnant on Halloween.  1st is a preemie so I'll be thrilled to still be pregnant then.  October 26th is 37 weeks for me, my birthday is the 27th, so I set a goal for this baby of October 28th.  Obviously I would prefer for baby to stay inside until 39 weeks at least, but not a preemie sounds pretty good to me.

Baby skeleton shirt if it still fits me and I'm still pregnant. I have no idea what I'll be if I've just had a baby though.

I would love that, except the way we compromise on Halloween is we take turns picking a theme and then you still get a choice of your personal costume in the universe. And DS and DH will never go for that lol

My due date is Nov 15 and last time I delivered at 38 weeks, so I hope to barely make Halloween this year. *fingers crossed*

I was pregnant oct 2016 and I was a basketball and hubby was a referee. it was cute.

  • I'm due Nov 4th, but I'm really hoping a miracle happens and I give birth on Halloween.  This kid's first outfit is going to be a Halloween costume!
  • I also want to be padme, and I could have my sons dress as han solo and luke (one is brunette, one is blond). :)  But I cannot find the outfit anywhere and I can't sew.

And for all of you who went early last time, you won't necessarily go early next time.  My first was born at 38w5d, but my second was not born yet at 41 weeks and I was induced.  So, you never know.
    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

    My Charts since 2009

  • A friend of mine had a pretty funny one a couple years ago. She was super prego and made a homemade costume out of a cardboard box to look like an oven. Even cut out a working door. Then she wore a chef's hat and called herself the bun in the oven. Open the door to see the belly!
  • I have a size L (looks like it runs on the smaller side) maternity skeleton shirt is be willing to send anyone for the cost of shipping. It fit me in early pregnancy with my last but I'm 100% sure it will NOT fit this time around when I'm huge. LoL
  • Last year I went as a Spider Web...my little one was in his carrier dressed as a spider. We were a spider in a web. My husband was an exterminator.
It could definitely work while pregnant (wear a shirt with a spider on it. Or with a newborn close to you in a wrap. Everyone loved it!
