We use one and it really helps because LO is a light sleeper. I got it off Amazon. It's by Homedics - 6 sounds, timer if you want (we leave it on all night), plug in or battery operated which is nice for travelling or taking it on the go. Really simple and it was not expensive but it works great.
We use it for my 2.5 year old and my 7 month old, naps and bedtime. DS1 has a Dohm and DS2 has one of those cheaper Soundspas both work great. I love them, they really help LO sleep especially during the 4th trimester since it mimics the noises in the wob but it has benefits that carry over. By this point the noise is one of our sleep signals, when I walk into the nursery with DS2 he calms and starts yawning. Another benefit is that it downs out any todder/dog sounds that happen during naptime. DS2 can sleep through anything since he isn't used to quiet anyway.
Is there a reason you guys don't use it for naps? We always have and it has never impacted nighttime sleep or made napping other places difficult.
We have one in every bedroom (in ours and both Kids rooms). I'd highly reccomend one. We have this one from target in the kids rooms and some cheep one from bed bath and beyond in ours. The one in my sons room is 2.5 years old and still working perfectly.
Yes to the munchkin one from target! We use it and the night light is a great plus. I thought the projector was stupid at first but it's a lifesaver when baby wakes up at 4:30 am and I just want 30 more min of sleep.
@ElleMF728 oh we do use it at naps. I just wasn't clear If I didn't use it, I would get nothing done since LO is such a light sleeper despite my efforts to make noise and let him sleep in noisy environments as a newborn. Can't believe some people can clip finger nails when their babies are asleep! I can't tiptoe passed the closed door of his room without causing him to stir! It drives me crazy. The sound machine is a life saver!
We have a humidifier in LOs room that we use regularly. The fan from that serves as our white noise and if we don't need the humidifier component I just switch it to the fan setting.
A couple of months ago I went or late one night to find a white noise machine. Only Walmart was open and all I could find there was a teddy bear. It vibrates and has a few different "noise" options including white noise. I thought it would be temporary until we got a real white noise machine but LO loves it! The heartbeat is her favourite. I like that it's portable and we don't have to plug it in and the vibration is a bonus.

We use a Dohm and a humidifier. For naps and all night. We bring the Dohm with us for overnight trips. It's also necessary because we're only a few miles from Logan airport so we get some loud planes flying overhead which make me insane without white noise so they'd definitely wake the baby.
We use one only at night. It's mainly for me! LOL my DH snores and it helps me block it. It also me for when my LO is fidgeting around in his bassinet in our bed. LO doesn't use it for naps in the day.
We also use the homedics one off amazon. I think it was $20. Worth every penny. Cues LO it's bedtime and keeps sounds from waking him up. We leave it on all night and for naps. I think it's worth a try for you!
We use the Dohm and I love it! It's just white noise and it even makes me fall asleep rocking LO in the glider. It signals bedtime and is very much a part of our bedtime routine. Highly recommend it.
We also use the Dohm and it's amazing. At first we used a fan which worked great in the summer, but then it got too cold to use a fan at night. We've used the Dohm since at night and during naps ... it helps block out any sound we or the dog might make as he's sleeping, and he definitely sleeps more soundly with it on (and we can be louder without worrying about waking him up). The sound isn't annoying like some electronic ones are since it's an actual fan motor and sounds like a fan, which means it doesn't bother us hearing it on the monitor at night when we're sleeping.
We got ours at Bed Bath & Beyond using a 20% coupon, then got another one for my mom to use at her place while we're at work. Definitely worth it! We bring ours with when we travel as well.
As for a soother, we use the Slumber Elephant Soother (Target) at night and during naptime. It's a star projector and plays music, so we play it when rocking him to sleep or if he wakes up at night, we put it on and he usually falls back asleep watching and listening to it.
We use the Dohm and have this projector that plays music. Both are used for naps and night time and always trigger him to settle and go to sleep. Highly recommend to help LO get into a good sleep routine.
Does anyone have one that has a sound that sounds like a hairdryer or vacuum? My twins are instantly quiet if I turn on my hair dryer or the vacuum. Right now we use an app on the iPad for naps and bedtime but sometimes I need the iPad and can't use it. And I'd like a sound machine to be able to take to the grandparents houses.
I use Cloud B Sleep Sheep. Plays 4 lullabys and 4 sounds. I just use 2 of the possible selections, oven waves and rain. It helps a ton putting her to sleep (and me too lol).
We use the Tranquil Turtle. We didn't use anything for the first three months (other than me making shhh sounds when I put him down) but then we were given the Turtle as a gift and it has worked wonders. It has become a sleep signal. It makes wave sounds or a soft melody and it projects a soft blue light that looks like ocean water.

no that's not a typo, lol. I have seen similar ones from bed bath and beyond, but I'm not sure where mine is from!
