High-Risk Pregnancy and Exercise

Hi everyone, I am pretty new here and I have a question for anyone who has been deemed high-risk.  Two years ago I lost my daughter at 6 months gestation due to chorioamnionitis and incompetent cervix.  I see my doctor tomorrow, and will ask his advice.  But, I want to know if any of you are considered high-risk and have been given the go ahead to exercise.

Re: High-Risk Pregnancy and Exercise

  • I would imagine it depends on the reason you are high risk and other health factors so, like you said you plan to do tomorrow, asking your doctor is your best bet

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.
I'm sure it depends on why you are high risk. My daughter was born at 32 weeks gestation, IUGR, due to undiagnosed pre-eclampsia. For me, exercise is encouraged because it can help prevent pre-e from reoccurring. I'm also attempting a vbac, so exercise is important for that as well.
  • I was HR with my last because of a bleeding complete previa and was not allowed to exercise or basically do anything. I agree that it depends on the issue.

  • I'm with the others--I think it probably depends on why you're high risk. I'm technically classified as high risk due to being on Lovenox and having a history with blood clots, but my dr has cleared basically any form of exercise for me (with the same guidelines as lower risk pregnancies).

I was high risk and could do yoga, but my high risk was due to protein deficiency. It really probably depends on how active you were pre pregnancy as well as why you're HR.

  • Hello everyone, thank you for your feedback.  My doctor cleared me for basic aerobics, treadmill, and swimming. No more zumba classes.  And I love to dance.  I have an incompetent cervix, and am getting a cerclage placed in two weeks.  That will sew my cervix shut.  Then I will start progesterone shots at 18 weeks.  Had an ultrasound today, everything is great.  Baby has doubled in size in last two weeks.  I was so happy for the good news.  Being HR I will most likely get an ultrasound every two weeks for the duration of the pregnancy.  This will help me with easing the worry.  We have decided to announce pregnancy around 24-25 weeks which is the stage of viability. We lost Claire at 21-22 weeks, and it destroyed my family and our other kids.  Keeping it quiet is hard but it better for the hearts of our kids.  Hopefully, there will be no issues and I will get my rainbow.  I sure do miss my daughter.
