I know a lot of us have been dealing with headaches and allergies lately. I went to the dr last night and asked about both of these things. For allergies, she said a Zyrtec daily was fine (just stay away from Zyrtec-D) and for headaches Tylenol and a little bit of caffeine was a safe go-to.
She's also putting me on a once a day Magnesium pill that is supposed to be a preventative measure against the headaches. I'm not sure exactly how or why magnesium is supposed to help (I'll be researching that today), but she said that she started doing it a couple of years ago since so many pregnant women were coming to her with the same complaints of headaches.
Just a thought for those of you suffering as well. Ask your doc and good luck!
I have heard about magnesium and migraines on multiple occasions. The pills were a bit big for me, so when someone suggested magnesium oil, I checked it out. You basically spray it on the soles of your feet 1-2 times daily. If I use it consistently, I do notice a drop in the frequency of my migraines.
I suffer from severe allergies as well...I can't function unless I take a Zyrtec daily...I worry sometimes about the effects of taking it daily but I don't have a choice...thanks for sharing this info!
Thanks for mentioning magnesium. I found out I was lacking in that majorly with my last pregnancy and I'm sure that is happening again. Also curious what my iron levels are. I'll be finding out Wednesday. I think I will start taking magnesium!

Thanks for the info on magnesium. I'll have to give that a try. I've done the Tylenol and caffeine and unfortunately it didn't seem to help.
My headaches get really bad in the 2nd trimester and my bad allergies don't help the cause. I try not to take Zyrtec just because I'm paranoid about any medications but it usually ends up being a necessity because I can't take my nasal spray or eye drops. I turn into a snotty, drooly mess and it's not pleasant for me or anyone around me lol.
I've been taking magnesium for migraine prevention a while and it really works! It also helps reduce heart palpitations/flutters and it reduces my anxiety. From what I understand, it's effective because magnesium acts like a mild relaxant and keeps your blood vessels from constricting too much.
Another thing I do for migraines in pregnancy is put an ice pack on my neck. Weird but it works. Or peppermint oil on the temples and forehead!
My doctor also told me Zyrtec was fine. Always check with your doctor before you add something like that in. As for the magnesium, I have heard that before too.
My headaches have been so terrible that the doctor actually had to call me in some medicine. I hate having to take it but she assured me it was ok, especially now that I am in the 2nd trimester. I only take it when I get the really bad headaches that make me not be able to get out of bed. For just a normal headache, I've been taking Tylenol and using peppermint oil. The peppermint oil really seems to help knock it out before it gets too bad!
