Anyone having symphysis pubis dysfunction symptoms already?

I had severe symphysis pubis dysfunction (aka pelvic girdle pain) with my first pregnancy starting mid 2nd trimester and went on disability 2 months before I was due. I started having symptoms with this pregnancy last week, and I'm only 10 weeks! I'm so upset and scared that its starting so early this time around. I'm scared for my financial situation if I can't work, and I'm afraid of doing permanent pelvic damage just trying to get around these next few months. I still have residual effects from my first pregnancy. Is anyone else going through this pain this early?

    No experience myself, but my best friend had this with her last pregnancy (baby is 9 months). They told her it would likely happen again with subsequent pregnancies. 

    I do not think it's that unusual for it to be occurring earlier than last time. Did you talk to your doc?

  • Not yet, but I will at my next appt in three weeks. Until then I plan to order a support band and make an appt with a physical therapist I used last time. How is your friend doing? I hope she healed well.

    Once she delivered she was fine! No lasting issues

  • I had SPD last pregnancy and was also told it usually reoccurs with subsequent pregnancies. I'm hoping my belt from last time will work again. No pain yet, but I fully anticipate it returning.

  • I'm not sure if kinesiology  tape would help more than a belly brace but it's worth discussing with your PT. If I were you I would call and try to bump up your appt.

  • I am. Going to start prenatal yoga in a couple weeks, when I'm 12 weeks  and I'm doing nightly streches... we'll see how that goes.
  • @samkins --don't do yoga moves that are asymmetrical. It made my PSD worse last pregnancy. Every move must NOT put extra weight or pressure on one side of your body over the other.  I'm sure you can just improvise with the help of your yoga teacher whenever the class does an asymmetrical pose.
