Weekly randoms **3/21**

I woke up to snow this morning. SNOW. As in, schools are cancelled because we're in the midst of a storm (albeit a quick storm). Happy spring??

Re: Weekly randoms **3/21**

  • @kmalls we got snow here too! But our schools just did a 2 hour delay, didn't even stick to the roads here!

  • My random is I am extremely nervous because my NT scan is Wednesday but DH and I talked it over and I plan to tell my boss before Wednesday that we are pregnant. I figured it is the best thing to do so I can announce it to everyone on Wednesday if the NT scan looks good! I know he will be happy for us and everything so not sure why I am nervous. Maybe because it will be the first person besides immediate family that would know?

  • I hate talking about politics; I generally avoid it like the plague. But we got talking taxes at lunch and I strongly disagree with a colleague about something and now I'm in a really pissy mood and I'm mad at myself for engaging. Hunting for something on the board to entertain me and get me out of this funk.

Ugh, we got some here too. Just a little dusting overnight- mostly on the grass and cars, rather than the roads. Thankfully, we are not off from school. I am really hoping this is it for snow! I'm ready for warm weather.

    hahaha @annabenanna I like how you're thinking ;)

BTW- how did your ladies weekend go while hiding the pregnancy?

ETA: I'm sorry for the neverending winters, ladies.
  • @annabenanna Hahahaha! Happy birthday and I'm glad that the fail ended up being a nice announcement in the end  :) I actually meant that girls trip you were doing to the desert (wasn't that you?) but it was probably ages ago now. I just thought of it when I saw your SN.

  • Thank you @Paturkey !  Hahaha, yes the Joshua Tree weekend was me. :)  I told my closest friend, and we were able to pull it off the whole weekend, hiding it.   I'm glad I hid it then, because I hadn't had my first doctor's appointment yet.... After seeing the baby's heartbeat and seeing the baby move at the first doctor's appointment a few weeks ago, I felt so much better about the whole pregnancy.  I guess that's why this last weekend, it wasn't such a big deal people finding out. :)
  • I hate waiting! I know BF and I said we wouldn't announce the pregnancy until we had the Harmony results back on FB...but we took reveal pics yesterday and I am impatiently waiting to get those back. If we get those back today and the results tomorrow, I'm going to die. But if we get the results today and no pics...argh. I am about to burst with our news. We hit 12 weeks on Sunday and I just want to yell it out.
  • @ammiddleton3 Hi! You posted in the must-haves thread and I'm pretty sure we were S'13 together! Nice to see you! (Didn't want to hijack the other thread). :)

Deleted random question because maybe this wasn't the right forum to ask. Literally had nothing to do with pregnancy. (Just for those who are curious--I was wondering about receptions after eloping), but I decided it really has nothing to do with me so I just decided to edit it away. (My second comment below gives a bit more insight to what my original question was.)

  • @rozANDbenSINCE2001 I think whatever they want to do is appropriate.

  • @RainMira9e Yes, of course! I've just never known anyone to elope before and MIL asked me to help look for reception venues, but hasn't told me number of guests. Just thought I'd ask in case anyone has attended/had a reception after eloping. Was literally just curious.  :#

  • @rozANDbenSINCE2001 just wanted to say that we eloped and then had a "vow renewal"/reception exactly one year later with the family. I also know several people who eloped and then had a reception later on (my parents eloped and then my grandparents threw them an outdoor party that summer; my aunt and uncle got married in Italy and then had a reception in the US as well; DH's cousin eloped at a destination and then had a reception back home due to family complications).

  • Does anyone still watch Teen Mom besides me? I just watched the season premier from last night and this cast HORRIFIES me, most of them are just becoming bigger shit shows as time goes on. It's so hard to watch!
  • I hit and killed a dog this morning as I was pulling into work. I never saw him. He must've ran under my back tires. I've never killed a living thing larger than a spider. I've literally done damage to my car avoiding a squirrel before. It was a Chinese Crested, so I know it belonged to someone, but it had no tags so I had no way of contacting the owners. He had been roaming around the area for months. I work with my dad, so he came out and took care of everything. He buried it out behind our office while I sobbed in my car. I literally can't imagine a worse thing. I don't know that I'll ever be able to forgive myself.

Moral of the story: if you love your dog, put identification tags on them and don't let them roam around busy streets.

  • Oh @CopperBoom86 I'm so sorry, that must be horrifying. You might want to contact the local ASPCA or something- a lot of pets don't have tags but are microchipped, so they can be scanned to find their owners. Hugs.

  • I'm so sorry @CopperBoom86 that's awful :(

  • @CopperBoom86 Oh my god, I'm sorry that happened. That's awful. I hope you can find peace and forgive yourself. Accidents happen, sadly.

  • @CopperBoom86 I'm so sorry that happened to you! I know it's easier said than done, but try to forgive yourself. It sounds like there was nothing you could have done.

  • @CopperBoom86 , I'm so sorry you had to go through that.  That must have been awful!
  • Thanks for the love, you guys. It's been a really tough couple of days.

    @Paturkey - I was so upset, I didn't even think about a microchip. I'll look into that.

I watch teen mom! And yes they don't seem to be learning anything after all these years except Chelsea seems to have her stuff together
  • I mean, I have dog tags for both my dogs, but they fell off. They're micro-chipped though....because tags fall off.

I'm going to assume that this didn't cross your mind in the heat of the moment, but I'd be really upset if someone hit my dog, buried it, and made no attempt to find me.

    edited for typos
As I said above, I was so upset I didn't even think about a microchip. And if you buy the right kind of tags, they don't fall off. My two dogs (one dachshund and one pit bull mix) have both had the same tags for years and they're never fallen off. They're the kind that are riveted to their collar.

I don't want to start an argument, because that's the last thing I need right now, but I just need to say that your post made me feel even worse about something I was already distraught about. I'm still crying at my desk about it, I've thrown up twice, and haven't been able to eat anything all morning. Trust me, I already feel bad enough.

  • @CopperBoom86 I'm so sorry that happened to you :( I can't even imagine!! Please don't beat yourself up, it could and unfortunately does happen to anyone. And honestly, I wouldn't beat yourself up about the microchip. You mentioned it had been roaming around for months, IMO that is completely irresponsible of the owners, and if they allowed their dog to roam free they should have absolutely kept a secure tag on it (my dog has had the same tag for 10+ years and it has never fallen off). I can't imagine how horrible it would be to logistically bring a deceased dog that has been run over to the vets office to get scanned... it's not something a lot of people would think to do.

If anything, you can call animal control and maybe they can come out and look into it for you?

  • I wasn't trying to start an argument. You're entitled to feel the way that you do, but I'm not allowed to react to how your post made ME feel? That's not how it works.

And I said that I understand that what you went through was upsetting and clearly stated that I'm sure you didn't think it through in the moment.

And I've had riveted tags fall off. That's why there are microchips.
I know that's not how it works. You can react in whatever way you choose. Kicking someone when they're down just isn't the nicest thing to do. If you're not concerned about that, then that's okay, too, I guess. Someone had already suggested checking for a chip and they did in it a way that didn't make me feel even more like shit. I took their suggestion and have already called the local vet to see if they could scan the dog for a chip.

  • I had my second OB appointment yesterday and I ended up getting an ultrasound because they couldn't get a hb with the Doppler. Baby was doing great just moving around and was really low. Strong hb of 173! They changed my dates again though, first appointment would have put me at 9w5d yesterday, but baby was measuring 10w3d.

  • Just had to cancel date night with DH at one of our favorite restaurants because my nausea has taken center stage. That means no coconut custard pie, which I have been looking forward to for days and is the only thing that sounds palatable to me right now. Maybe I could have ordered pie as my entree?

I would have eaten pie for my meal! I wonder if there's a way you can order it to go and just have DH grab it for you. I'm doing that with dinner today. Way too tired to function, and he's being nice. :)
