Saying "We didn't spend a bunch of money on a wedding because we wanted to save up for x, y, z" and expecting some kind of clap on the back for financial prudence is just as tacky as, "We spent $30,000 for our wedding. Swans, ice sculptures, private castle: the whole nine yards."

I hate most teenagers. I love my job. I love what I teach, but I'm tired of being disrespected on a daily basis. My students from my classes that I teach are pretty cool, for the most part, but I'm sitting in study hall to get some extra pay and these kids are so disrespectful. I do not get paid enough to be called a "cold bitch" for asking them to be respectful of their classmates.

Some kids just aren't built for traditional university education. We should stop touting 4 year degrees as the only way to get ahead in life. Kids need to be exposed to more hands on options in high school (fabrication, cosmetology, cooking, etc) and then be encouraged and supported to go to trade school, get apprenticeships, etc (if that suits their needs/strengths). I'm in no way advocating that people shouldn't have access to a university education, just that there are so many other options.

THIS. So many degrees and programs out there don't even lead to a reliable job, or a job at all. A lot of parents seem to push their kids into university because it's just what's expected. How many real life skills aren't even taught in school???

YES!! I graduated high school as a certified welder, and made close to $5K that first summer after high school. But I was seriously pushed into a 4 year degree. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching, but I would be soo much better off stress/financially/job availability wise if I had just stuck to welding.

One of the reasons I really do love my high school. We have what are called "career academies" that allow students to pursue careers in vocational trades. One of them is for car mechanics and transportation logistics, and the other is for jobs in agriculture. We also have a career center for my district that encourages students to look at jobs like cooking, nursing, photography, electricians, and construction. It's awesome and I fully agree, not everyone is meant to go to a 4-year college.

I so agree. This actually reminded me of my mom. She loves to bring up any chance she can, how little her and my dad spent on her wedding ring. She always follows it with trying to get me to compare ours side by side to whoever she is telling this story to. The thing is, I have a very modest ring, and its literally the only piece of jewelry I wear, but she likes to compare and say she would never spend that much, not that she knows how much it cost (less than $500). I feel like she brings this up because she almost always gets praise from whoever she is telling the story to. I love her, but its just something that grinds my gears.

My UO is that I cannot stand when someone claims a condition on social media for attention and/or sympathy. This person mentioned they have infertility because they've been trying for 4 months and can't get pregnant (this is no one here just fyi, it was on my Facebook feed this morning). Infertility is a serious and incredibly emotional diagnosis that shouldn't be casually thrown around just because you're impatient and were able to conceive the first time with your first child. The people who are responding to her post with "prayers" are really pissing me off right now. I think I'm in a negative state of mind and should probably not be on the internet today, so apologies if I post/ghost.

My UO is especially unpopular in my town right now: This snow is beautiful. Even though I'd rather it be gone and have nice, sunny, 60 some degree spring days.. It just looks so pretty. This is a picture I took in my backyard this morning:
@BerkeBaby and @Kate08Young I have no idea how you ladies handle that! Slow clap and major props from me! My temper would never allow it! @Winnie81 that would drive me bananas too, so if that is a UO, sign me up!
@Shwee25 I totally get where you're coming from. I hate winter, hate it. I hate snow, hate it (unless I'm skiing or it's a super big storm that makes everything close). I make sure to let people know that I hate both of those things. But then... sometimes... a bunch of snow falls and covers everything so beautifully and I'm just like man, this is really pretty, but I just can't admit it out loud.

Yes! We need to stop looking down on trades and realize that not everyone needs a "degree" education. Becoming a trade master is a huge deal and frankly if we don't start fixing this there wont be anyone to be googled when there's a problem (plumbing/electrical/etc)

@Winnie81 I'm with you! I have been dx with PMDD (depression and anxiety connected to my cycle) (which no one IRL knows about except for my close family...and now you guys ha) and I hate seeing those "I'm so depressed" posts on Facebook. Until you've understood the depth of what that really means, you wouldn't throw those words around so lightly. And it's more of the ones that are mostly serious that bother me. I can take the jokes; it's how I deal with it sometimes. In fact, I tell DH that "the crazy is back" when I can feel it starting so he knows and can adjust how he handles my episodes. But it's the ones that throw it around for attention, but in reality they're just really sad, not depressed.

@Megzb510 Meeee too. I actually just hate wearing shoes in general. I have moccasins under my desk at work for this reason.
I love reading all the support for vocational training. I work in CPS with youth between the ages of 16-20 who are or have been in foster care. These youth have many grants available to help support post-secondary or trade education and most of my older youth have all taken the vocational route within the last two years. They leave the programs feeling accomplished and find themselves transitioning right in to employment. This age range is definitely a population I enjoy working with but I'll agree with @BerkeBabyand @Kate08Young- some youth can definitely be disrespectful.
My UO: I get annoyed with the "prayers" response on Facebook. I absolutely believe some people are really genuine with this response, but I feel like it's just become the go-to response and is pretty impersonal.
I don't know if anyone watches pretty little lairs, but I know with others who do this is unpopular. I can't stand Aria and Ezra as a couple. They are definitely my least favorite of the bunch.

I'm with you! Wine is gross.

LOL, the whole mouth feel conversation is killing me...hilarious. I have to admit, the term sounds a bit yucky, but I now understand why it can be useful. It's very specific!

My UO: I get annoyed with the "prayers" response on Facebook. I absolutely believe some people are really genuine with this response, but I feel like it's just become the go-to response and is pretty impersonal.
