Re: Syntheroid

  • Hi! Hooray for ovulating!! I am currently on synthroid. At first my tsh level was 4.8 then I had to go back for another test and it went to 6.2!

    I take 50mcg daily. I take it first thing when I wake up- you can only take it with water and have to wait MINIMUM of 30 minutes to eat or drink (even coffee  :( ). I've been on it for about 3 months and I went in for blood work 2 weeks ago and my levels are normal!

    I will say the only side effect I had in the beginning was heart palpations, but they subsided.

    Good Luck!

  • I'm also on Synthroid, 75mcg.  There really aren't any side effects (except the no eating for 30 minutes thing)! My Thyroid has been normal since.  They check my levels every  6-8 weeks to make sure the dosage doesn't need to be adjusted.

  • Hi Adriana, I'm new here but been TTC for 3.5 years.

    I have been on Synthroid for 8 years, and I have Hashimoto's hypothyroid. That's an autoimmune condition. I take 175 mcg, 1 pill per day. Like Sammy said, definitely wait to eat or drink after taking it to avoid problems with absorption. I have had no ill side effects from it, nor from the generic or other brands like Levoxyl.

    I am guessing the hormone tested was your TSH? Did he say what the goal number in mind would be? My endocrinologist likes for TSH to be close to 1. I know my GP was looking at older standards saying closer to 3 was ok. My endo says closer to 1 is better for women trying to conceive. Just something to consider. Best of luck to you!

    I've been on Synthroid for about 4 years. 75 mcg. It's been a life changing drug for me. Right before I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I was so so fatigued I had trouble at work, stayed in bed all day, couldn't socialize-- I didn't know what was wrong! Turns out a little pill fixed it all for me and I've had no side effects. Had to adjust my dosage about 2 years ago but as long as you get regular blood work (and we infertiles tend to get that..), they'll catch any movement in your numbers and you should be fine. Good luck!

  • I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when my infertility journey began. My level was 5 and since being on meds for almost 2 years it's 1.7. Really no side effects observed. Not sure if your doctor told you but it was stressed to me not to take it with any sort of vitamin supplements as it will counteract the thyroid meds. I take my thyroid med in the morning and vitamins in the evening just to be certain. I knew of this issue already bc my mom is hypothyroid and was taking multivitamins and the doctor couldn't understand why her level was off again til he asked if she was on vitamins. She had been taking both meds at the same time.

  • @capps42613 See I asked the nurse and she said keep taking prenatals but the pharmacist said to take vitamins at night and just the syntheroid in the morning.  Sounds like the best best.  Thank you

  • @omarismyhomeboy same here! I saw my PCP for joint pain and he did labwork (including TSH, I was told it was normal!) and X-rays and couldn't see what the problem was. He was referring me to a rheumatologist. Luckily I went to see my RE and he put me on the thyroid meds for fertility reasons and my joint pain subsided!!

    @ADRIANAC1982 No problem :smile:

  • @capps42613 Yeah, I had joint pain too! What's weird about the "ranges" for good TSH is that they do change from person to person and PCP to PCP. Some people feel find with a TSH of 4 and some feel awful and need to be on meds. My mom has had it for a decades so she knows sometimes you just have to be your own advocate sometimes.

  • My Thyroid measured at 6 before I started IVF. So I went from 75mg of Synthroid a day to 150mg a day throughout 2 IVF cycles now. I notice NO differences when on it versus off. But if it helps anything I will try it ;)
