hello so my 13 week old for the last few days will only take 30 minute naps! Regardless of it being in crib or swing.. He is fully awake and happy as a clam smiling?!!! What is going on? Has anyone else had these issues?
If he's happy that really doesn't sound like a problem. As babies get older they take shorter naps because they need less sleep and are sleeping more at night. Unless he's super fussy and obviously tired I wouldn't be worried. Since you stated he was wide awake and happy I wouldn't class this as an issue.
It's really common for younger babies to take abbreviated naps before they condense into a longer morning and afternoon nap. 20 to 30 minutes is not unusual.
Yes! this is my son all the way. It's like he has an alarm set or something because he always wakes up at the 30 min mark. I def feel like he needs more because he acts so fussy/sleepy and he's so exhausted by the end of the day. I try my best to have him nap at least 3 times each day but they are so short. My only saving grace is that he will sleep for 12 hours at night so I can't complain about that!
Thanks for everyone's response.. He is only 3 months I think that is way to young to be doing such short naps aditionally he still feeds every 2.5-3 hours at night. And he is happy when he wakes up but very fussy earlier during his awake period so it throws his entire schedule off..and he is definitely not getting 15 hours of sleep a day
It's due to sleep cycles developing. They struggle to transition from REM to NON REM sleep. If I want naps longer than 30-45mins I have to be there to help her transition to the next sleep cycle.
If I swaddle my little man he tends to take a longer afternoon nap. Sometimes up to 2 and a half hours. The swaddle seems to help him not wake himself up between his sleep cycles because he can't fling his arms around.
DS is like this. He will take 2-3, 25-45 minute naps and usually will give 1 good one that's about 2-3 hours long at some point in his day. It's usually around 2-3 p.m. Today however, he's only slept a total of 7 1/2 hours and I am already preparing myself for a long night ahead, if he doesn't go down and take at least an 1 1/2 nap soon. He isn't sleeping through the night yet. He's only been going 3-3 1/2 hours max for DH and I. I am patiently waiting for the 5-6 hour stretches.
Some days Odie will only take 30-40 min naps. Other days he will sleep a solid two hours. But he as long as he is happy I don't worry too much. I don't think you should either.

This was my son. I tried everything in every book to get his to sleep longer but he woke up after 40/45 minutes every single time. He was always happy when he woke up though. He started rolling over at 5 months and he magically started napping for two hours and has been a great sleeper since then.
