early labour?

Basically was looking for other moms experiences with early labour and what it was like for them.
At 26 weeks it was discovered I had a shortened cervix at around 2.6cm which they rechecked at 30 weeks and had remained the same,  they were happy and sent me on my way.
Yesterday morning ( 32 weeks along) I lost my mucous plug, have been cramping more again but nothing rhymic. They checked my cervix which is 1cm dilated and he said cervix felt still around 2cm mark (50%)
They gave me shots to develop babies lungs.
Still, they say people walk around like this for weeks but you shouldn't be dilated at all at 32 weeks
Just wondering what others have experienced here, thanks!

Re: early labour?

  • My friend who gave birth three weeks ago had the same thing happen 6 weeks ago--baby stayed put for a full three weeks before my friend went into labor at 39 weeks and 4 days.

    Good luck!

  • Everybody is different, but I went into labor at 25weeks and delivered at 26weeks.  Medication couldn't stop the labor, even though I never lost my mucous plug/broke my water.
I hope that you will take it easy, put your feet up, and listen to your body!

  • How do you know when you lose your mucous plug? I noticed a marked increase in discharge 2 days ago and normal since then.

I started having contractions around 26 wks. Was given nifedipine to take religiously. I was put on bedrest at the time and went on disability. I see the doc weekly and NTS twice a week. At 32 wks I was 1cm dilated and 80% effaced. I was also given the steroid shots just in case. Baby has dropped but I haven't seen anything resembling a mucus plug. I will be 34 wks tomorrow. Still dealing with contractions and getting major lightning crotch. All my ffn tests have come back negative. Fingers crossed he stays put till 36/37 wks at least.

GROSS ALERT... It looks like you blew your nose in your panties. Just bc you lose it doesn't mean impending labor. It can still be a month or 2 out. It regenerates itself. Make sure you drink lots of water, lay on your left side, and/or elevate your feet. It should help with your cramping OP.

I lost mine last week @ 30 weeks (STM). I'd describe it as snot in the shape of a snail. I knew what it was instantly.

With my first I had a huge increase in discharge in 3rd tri, but I never noticed losing my plug.

  • I went into preterm labor at 28 weeks. They gave me the steroid shots for baby and medication to calm the contractions. After a week I was discharged from the hospital but ever since I've still been having steady contractions. And I'm 31 weeks now.. It's getting to be extremely exhausting, the contractions arnt deadly painful, but when your going through WEEKS of them, it's very tiring to the body. AH!!
