Mom fail

My lo love the swing. Often we sit it up more so she can look around the room and have not had to buckle her in. Today while in the kitchen making dinner I turned around to check on her and she was halfway off the swing. I didn't make it in time she face planted on the hardwood floor. After calling the doctor she is fine but I am not. I feel awful and I can't but her down.

Re: Mom fail

  • Well you HAVE had to buckle her in precisely for this reason. Don't beat yourself up. Accidents happen and i'm glad you called her doc right away. But yeah, those buckles are MORE necessary for older babies because unlike newborns, they're becoming more and more mobile.

    I'm really glad she's ok. That's a relief.

  • Okay so this Sunday I was talking to a guy at church who confessed to me he dropped both of his kids off his lap after falling asleep with them in his arms. His kids are grown adults and totally fine. I guess what I'm saying is don't beat yourself up. Just because you have one mom fail doesn't mean you fail as a mom! You did the right thing and called the doctor. Accidents happen! :)
  • Falls happen and they're terrifying. DS was seven or eight months and climbed out of his crib. He had just woken up and I was making a bottle when I heard something slam against the door in his room and he was just screaming. I didn't let go of him the rest of the day and slept with him on the living room floor for a few nights.

He's totally fine but I remember that every time I put him to bed. I also now understand what my parents went through. My mom talked about putting me in a toddler bed at 9 months because it was a shorter fall.
  • How scary for you guys!  You should feel good for doing the right thing and calling the pediatrician.  You can't rewind, so try not to beat yourself up. Easier said than done, I know.  We had an accident where the dog startled and landed on DD's head. She was also fine,  but I felt like I shouldn't be allowed to have kids.

Accidents happen and now you know to buckle her. Heck, an RN at my baby weigh group was telling us about how her baby fell off of the changing table (he was okay).
  • Accidents happen to anyone. I'm so glad your baby was ok and that you sought help appropriately.

As a general rule of thumb for myself, if it has a buckle it gets used. I was babysitting a 5 month old and had her strapped in to her bouncer pretty snugly and she flung herself forward and face planted. She was fine and thought it was the most fun thing to do, tried it with her swing as well.
My mom always says you can't trust kids and know I understand.
  • This morning my son was doing what can only be described as acrobatics on the couch next to me while I nursed dd & wham! His foot went right into her head & my arm. Thank god my arm took most of the impact but holy hell it scared me. It was a valuable lesson for all of us.
glad your little is ok - stuff happens! Parents are just people after all.
  • Don't know if this counts but I feel like I have no fashion sense and I told my husband I'm gonna feel bad for our daughter cause I probably will mess up dressing her lol. Tonight we decided to go for a quick walk so I decided to just grab whatever my hands could grab (not looking) for the short walk and this happened. Sorry child... And yup that's a power ranger onesie with leopard print pants haha!
Lol poor girl, and I feel bad if she's wearing polka-dot pants with strip socks.
  • I'm eating (not hot) pasta while wearing DD. I just dumped it all over her and down the carrier. The good news is, it didn't have sauce.

You were eating plain cold pasta?

It was room temp with some olive oil and pepper. End of the week food is hard.

    Haha I understand!!!
  • Been having some trouble the last two days with baby constantly unlatching then fussing. During relatch attempt #6 sleep deprived me accidentally tried to stick my nipple in her ear. Worse part is it was in broad daylight and I WAS looking at DD. My brain just zonked out!
  • preggoandglowing this is HILARIOUS!!!

chaelainev I should do that too because my nephew calls our son Jonathan "Yoda" (this happens because we're German and German "Jonathan" sounds a bit more like Yoda than the English version). It's super funny because I love Star Wars!
