Pulling the Pregnancy Card

edited March 2016 in November 2016 Moms

Last night I was doing some reading on the What to Expect App and stumbled across the tips on cleaning etc.  Anyway, this reminded me that with our 1st DH had graciously offered to clean the bathrooms throughout my pregnancy due to stronger chemicals in the cleaning products and fumes, etc.  It's funny because I never mentioned it the first time, he just offered (maybe he read it somewhere himself).....sooo this time with a little smile on my face I asked him if he would be doing the same and his response was "you'll be fine, that's what face mask and gloves are for" LOL.  He then smiled and said "yes, I'll take over the bathroom".

For those of you wondering the cleaning tip on the app was to use as many natural cleaning products as possible, use gloves, a mask and open a window if you can.  I'm sure I'll end up still having to clean the bathroom from time to time but it's nice that he'll be doing it most of the time.  I think for him it's more about helping out and I appreciate that so much, especially with having a toddler running around.  Anyway, the the last tip Ladies was....Pull the Pregnancy Card! LOL.

Sooo, lets hear it:  Have you pulled the pregnancy card yet or do you plan on pulling it at some point?  If so for what??

Re: Pulling the Pregnancy Card

  • I pulled it with my first pregnancy re: litter boxes, but we don't have a cat anymore.
I can't really think of much I can pull it on besides maybe ordering take out more. DH works way longer hours than I do, so if something has to get done, it has to be me. Although Saturday morning's gym class for DD can be his deal.

  • LOL @talkthewholetime I pulled the ordering out more card after having DD, it was great while it lasted LOL

  • I've definitely used it to get out of changing the litter box.  I hate that chore.  I told H when we first started ttc that once I was pregnant I couldn't change the litter box anymore and he remembered!

  • I've used it to sleep in.  Usually I was the one getting up with DS at 6 every morning.  Not anymore!

  • My husband has been cleaning the litter box for a few months now, ever since he learned he would have to do it once I was pregnant anyway. She's my cat from long before we were together and they don't like each other much but he does it for me. He whines about doing it and gags as he does it but I appreciate him taking care of me and our baby.

When I told my best friend that I am pregnant the only advice she gave me after having three children is to use the pregnancy card often. I haven't figured out how to do that yet but I'm sure it will have its advantages :)

DH did our upstairs bathroom last time around (it's bigger and has a full tub/shower, which the downstairs one doesn't). This time, I think I'll just use the gloves, open the windows, turn the fan on and go to town. It'll be easier to do that since the weather will be warmer. Last time, I was pregnant over the winter so we couldn't open the window much.

  • Naps. I take naps. Usually I like to cook big meals on the weekend so we have some left overs going into the week, but lately I've just been taking naps in the afternoon and W has been handling meals.

I don't think it's 'pulling the pregnancy card' so much as 'I will quite possibly light the house on fire if I attempt to cook right now.'

  • I work more hours and am the bread winner around our house so in a roll reversal...he's pulling the pregnancy card! So...since I am cutting my hours a little he is expecting I'll be home more to help out! Touché. Oh well, I get to play wife for a while now. I just have to locate our kitchen. I got this!
  • Luckily he's already been cleaning out the litter box but I've definitely used it for a nap or two while DD sleeps! Maybe even for an ice cream run ;)
  • I used it for the litter box and for paiting the walls in our dining room!

  • Naps. I've been napping so much it impacts my sleep at night but I just can't help it! And some meals... "sorry you just worked a 12 hour shift honey, but would you cook too? Kthx!" (I did thaw something for him to make...)
  • He's been really understanding with me being so exhausted. But he's a "just tell me what I need to do" guy and less a do it on his own initiative guy. So in general I find myself asking for more help with little things.

In general, I don't know that I play the pregnancy card too much, but I do for see myself playing the "HALP I have two babies" card come November.
